I love that the lighting blacklights the drum, letting you see what his right hand is doing inside of it!

Definitely.! This is far more insightful than a lot of tutor vids. Would be great to see this as a standard in all tutorials going forward as, literally just a backlight.. Genius.!👌

I have been watching a lot of bodhran solos lately, and getting fatigued at some of the careless phrasing. Seems like people have good chops, but just let their hands fly around, playing in the the time sig, but giving no mind to macro phrasing, tone, and general musical coherence. This is musical at the core. Music is more than just playing lots of notes in time. This guy really gets into it, and is fully invested in what he is doing. I watch these young kids at competitions and they look absolutely sedated. Nice to see someone full of life keeping the tradition going.

I'm sure it's a metloef drum. Made by Rob Faulkner.

He won it after collecting 10 bar codes of Mars Bars and taking them to that candies store near the Trinity college. That's how l got my driving license but with Oreos.

It is indeed a Metloef drum. Rob Forkner made it. Rob delivered this drum to Robbie in Dublin when we were on our way to the Coleman county bodhran summerschool in Gurteen Co. Sligo, I believe in 2013.. Rob Forkner lives in Oregon, USA these days. He still makes drums, but only custom orders I believe
