In the early 60s Toronto RnR scene, Robbie was "The Man". Every guitar player loved and tried to emulate his playing style and sound. He was our legend. RIP Robbie

Canada is proud of Robbie and Paul Shaffer, Letterman's musical director. RIP Robbie.

Losing both Robbie Robertson and Sixto Rodriguez today is so very sad, but Robbie lived such an incredible life, filled with creativity and success, and he gave so much to so many. Rodriguez had a very different life, but received the recognition he deserved in his later years having lived a 'normal' life after his career appeared (to him, if not the people of South Africa!) to have petered out...what a story! RIP to both of these wonderful souls, and thank you to those running this channel for these lovely tributes to both men.

The list of songs Robbie Robertson was responsible for is incredible. I loved the Band having grown up in the 70's. Robbie had an entire career working with Martin Scorsese & writing/producing music for the many incredible films Scorsese made. RIP Robbie. These losses are getting so much harder.😢

We are at that age when we are losing a lot of musicians we grew up listening to. But this one hit HARD! I was at a music festival this weekend and there was a lot of The Band songs being played! RIP Robbie 💔

Scarborough H.S. back when he went. My dad was Ron 'Robbie' Robertson too, but 86 if he were alive. Grew up on Eastville Ave. Both Toronto legends.

If Robbie Robertson had done nothing more with his life than write these three songs, the weight, Up On Cripple Creek, and The Night They Drove Old Dixie down, then both he and the band belong in the folk Hall of Fame the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and any other Hall of Fame that celebrates enduring music that moved millions and millions of people. I just wish that folk music would come back the way it was. Now, generations of people have missed some of the greatest music ever produced.

RIP Robbie Robertson. Canadian National Pride! I recall this performance on TV during its repeat in 1993 and wisely taped it for posterity.

I saw Bob Dylan backed by the Hawks in early 1966 and some people in the audience booed Dylan but they were few and far between...obviously they didn't realize that Dylan was writing about them when he wrote "The Times They Are A-Changin'"..

some folks may not realize that Robbie and Paul Schaeffer were part of the late 60's early 70's music scene in Toronto. 2 Canucks working together here.

Even in his fifties he had that killer smile that lits up the whole room.

I loved the song he did with Ulali. ( heartbeat song) very good artist. RIP 🙏

Robbie's voice. Omg. Its like when he starts the story you kinda wanna say Robbie wait, let me get a whisky and a cigarette and listen to you.

Rick was my favorite singer from The Band, good looking as well. Robbie was not known for his singing voice when he was with The Band, he left that to Richard, Levon and Rick. However, great songwriter, storyteller, and guitarist, (you can't have it all) and yes good looking, especially when he was young, beautiful eyes and his smile lits up the room.

LOving the fretless bass, fun to look back and see bands so tight.

I finally saw Dylan in 2007 when he toured with Elvis Costello. He played his hits to a country-western theme. I always wondered if he was trying to get a rise from the audience, but no one booed. Costello was worth seeing tho.

Minnesota's Bob Dylan (Zimmerman) was an excellent judge of talent. He somehow found the best rock a billy band in Canada and hired them.

No one captured the sound of Americana like The Band. There music sounded like folk, or bluegrass music from 50 years earlier. Ironic that 4 of the 5 were Canadian. RIP Robby. I believe Garth Hudson is the only member left.

The booed Dyland and the band when they were his back up band, When they went out on their own they were not booed.

Too bad Letterman went so fast and ended this interview quick, he obviously didn't respect or know who Robbie Robertson was nor appreciated him. Robbie Robertson, I wish I could sit down with him, hear the stories and just talk about everything. God bless Robbie Robertson ❤️ God bless

There are plenty of clips on Utube of more lengthy interviews with Robbie. Also if you a fan of The Band I recommend reading Robbie's book Testimony. Fascinating read, not only about The Band, but the sixties into the mid seventies, my generation.

Disappointing headline. I was expecting Dylan to be on stage at the Letterman show. Instead, Robbie tells of touring with Dylan when he went electric and was not well-received.

not sure about this but, Dylan was fronted by Paul Butterfield members inclusive of Michael Bloomfield prior to engaging Robbie & Co. ...July 1965 @ Newport Folk Festival...I wasn't there to know all that was going on as was Robbie was, just saying

I loved Levon Helm's work, was even fortunate enough to meet and speak with him when he played with the Cate brothers, but you have it backwards. Without Robertson's songs, Levon may not have even been known of.

@@stephenedgecock Well, I listened to him for almost 50 years, including solo albums, read his book, sat with him and talked about mandolins for 15 minutes, but other than that, I guess compared to being a close personal friend to him like I guess you were, maybe I know nothing. Now go bother someone else please.

Instrumentation and production trends can ruin otherwise good songs.

I did not know he passed away I apologize totally I apologize I did not know he passed away maybe got injected maybe the exposure to atmospheric aluminum smog combined with unfiltered municipal water supply and or glyphosate saturated into all the carbohydrates subsequently fed to all the livestock in industrial farming this means death to anyone and the organic food supplies are so expensive you have to be Bob Dylan to afford them.

In 1966 when i was 15, I was at my first Dylan concert here in Perth in Western Australia. I had already come across Dylan's earlier LPs. Had just bought Bringing It All Back Home and Highway 61. Australia had just gone from the British currency to the dollar. My ticket cost $5. The show consisted of the first half of Dylan playing his well known so g's with just guitar and harmonica. Second half he was backed by the Hawks. Later the Band. So I was very fortunate. Robbie Robertson on guitar. There was some audience booing, but Dylan stood his ground. The thing I recal is him playing songs like Visions of Johanna ( acoustically) which was very well received because the " Folkies" though it was a new acoustic piece. Little knowing it was already recorded on Blonde on Blonde, as a full on electric track, which no one here had yet heard. Shows how shallow people can be.
