Yeah. And even in decent condition, 'rare' should mean more than being old. Like many of these videos, these are just the mondeos of their day are were mass produced. XR3s, Xr4s and all the other cars described as rare in other videos doesn't make them any better now than they were when they were new.

Scrapman would want paying to remove any of those, more work/time than scrap value, I stopped watching at 20:00 in though. None of them will winch out onto a recovery truck, they'll split into a rusty mess, 2 lumps of angle iron under them, strops and a hiab. 'Free to collector' job...
I think even the scrap man would think twice about taking those.
Sorry, that's not a collection, that's a scrap yard. The fact that they were once collectable cars is kind of irrelevant now. As many people have already said, largely beyond economical saving now.
Great vid as always. I think he's about 10/20 years too late in selling most of these rot boxes. Really hope prices are realistic so enthusiasts can save whats left.
Almost criminal to let these cars rot….apart from a few trim parts they are toast.

The Sid's cafe sticker is the real café used in last of the summer wine TV series, showing my age now.
Relative simple repair??? Oh goodness the cars have deteriorated now. Not worth what he thinks he is going to get for them. Thanks Colin for another great video. Almost laughable!!!
My God what a load of memories that brought back. Shame some where so bad but the rest could be a challenge. The old 1200 cortina engine was used in stock car's and formula ford. Showing my age. Thank you for taking us round and thank John and Robbie for allowing you and Stokesy .

The GLS DODGE AVENGER IS A ONE OFF MODEL….A VERY AIRY ROOF.. not many came like that. This old guy suits living “ his dream “.. unfortunately that’s all it is a dream… I hope he never wakes up from it.

Surely there must be a scrapyard locally that will come along and take them away. Sadly not much left to save on any of them. Nice to see them before they get turned into tin cans though.
They were pretty much finished back in 88 90 when parked up as for now , no hope only good for limited spare parts ie the glass .
These people think they are car lovers. Most of these vehicles are not retrievable, what a waste.

all of them fit for the scrapyard
Great collection! Bit of T-Cut and polish, they will be like new 😂😂😂

They were worth next to buggerall then, simply old 'interesting' secondhand runabouts. They'd have been 'worth' more if, 30 years ago they'd sat in a scrap man's yard for a month or two and were scavenged for parts. Engines and rare bits of trim/glass might be worth 'something' but only on the condition they take the whole car for free.
Great vid again guys the bloke is very knowledgeable about his cars such a shame they are so past saving now but hopefully good few parts here
20 years ago, I think probably all of these would have been worth saving. I doubt they're much more than bits and/or kits now.
Think the old fella thinks there all maturing like a fine wine getting Better with age good luck selling that pile of rust
Why, if anyone ever entertained the idea of restoring or selling old cars, would they leave them parked with their windows partly wound down?
Obviously a hoarder, sad really as he’s talking about them as if they were still in the showroom 🙄, a crusher’s delight🧲⚒⚙️
He has a story around each car, that's where the value is.
This brings tears to my eye as a restorer of classic cars I have no words
I think John still thinks they are worth a fortune sadly 🤷♂️ rare yes but all will need full restoration to be on the road again . Good video tho guys 👍
I restore cars in my own time and i'm a vauxhall/opel collector, which i've restored my fair share of bad cars, but in the nicest way... them two vauxhalls wouldn't go back on the road... the firenza reminds me of the firenza 2000sl i thought i could save last year, but reality hit me that the shell was far beyond repairing and with panels not available, for the exception of (off the shelf parts) wheel arches and sills, you just wouldn't do it.. unless you have a big heart and a lot of money. I would say the chap is best to sell them as parts cars and maybe take the highest bid he can take on each car. Hopefully he is happy with what he may get for them.
@90s_dreams
2 жыл бұрын
i totally agree once you start chopping rot out you soon realise what its gonna take to replace , im no expert on car restoration but i do have friends in the game and ive seen the cost for simple replacing arches/ rear quarters on cars unless you got a supply or replacement panels to hand its just not worth it. if he only built a garage atleast to store some classics instead of just buying these to sit out in the open so fucking sad. rid off the shiny bits and scrap the lot.
I dread too think what he values them at today especially the way he talks about each one. Sadly I can't see many restorers paying what he wants, so sad will be Sat another 30 years..... so sad.

maybe one of these that got them and didnt have the know how to either keep them in good condition or any idea on how to look after them .so many people think they can do car mechanics without any training
I'm in a slightly similar situation to this man. I frequently used to work on cars at home, and still have some lying around. Being in a warmer climate, Australia, means that they are not as rusty but, even so, most car folk do not have the necessary welding skills. We wake up one day and realise that time has run away from us. We are no longer young and energetic. One thing that people fail to realise is that if not for people such as John, these cars, which he probably bought many years ago when they weren't desirable, would've been otherwise made into soup tins way back when. The cars may not be a proposition to restore, unless you are Pete C of Cortina City, but we should all thank John for the good source of spare parts that these cars now are. One of the main things that has prevented me from working on the cars I have over the years is mental health issues. I'm reminded of the old saying - "never judge someone until you've walked a mile in their shoes".

Evening Colin and Stu 🤝🏻 A good but sad video too. All those lovely classics like that 🤯 The sliding door transit would be worth a fortune now, The Mini's, Cortina's, the list goes on and on. They were not worth a lot when put there but it's the usual story. Nice of them to invite you guys though 😎 I'm sure they would sell some of them as there are plenty of restorers who have probably saved worse. All the best 🍻👍🏻
They should have told him that the cars in the back garden are beyond repair
Great explore colin
If only this clearly knowledge chap took care of the storage of these vehicles. Trying not to repeat the comments already made but clearly 30 years ago he made a conscious decision to collect this eclectic mix without any thought to the degradation the elements would take by not storing appropriately. As already stated by others the investment required to rescue these would be a waste of time….the structural integrity of all of them are too far gone…..these needed to find homes at least 15 years ago…. The chap is a best naive. Great video as always, frustrating that 99% will never see the road again, at best plenty of spares to harvest to save better cars though.
Ditto the comments below 👇🏼 - why ?? Just why ? - it’s such a shame. Even the best restorers in the world would struggle to get most of these back up and running. But I’d love to see a follow up in the future.

Yikes !!! A 2.3 viva is rare, but an estate???? That engine went on to be the basis of the brilliant 2.3 used in the Group B Chevettes from 77 onwards. Remarkable to see one of those old Alfas, very rare even back in the day. Those 127 sports were very, very quick on the road, as long as they didn't disintegrate as they drove along!! The rostyle wheels on the green Mk1 Cortina and the gold Mk II were much desired in the 70s. Shame about the Mk1 escort, interesting he had no lowering blocks on the back, I wonder was she an E model? The MkII cortina 1600E were the business, usually with a black vinyl roof. Very quick. The sticker in the back is from the cafe in Last of the Summer Wine!! Great video !
