I admit more people should have died (for my money, Davos, Pod and Tormund), but don't act like Theon, Jorah, Edd, Lyanna Mormont, Melisandre, Beric, Missandei, Viserion, Rhaegal, Ned Umber, Varys, the Hound, Jaime, the Mountain, Cersei or Daenerys survived. Also all the unnamed people.

Yes, they vastly oversimplified the moral narrative, but Daenerys always had the potential to become a tyrant: from the beginning she was an ideologically driven knight templar with a belief in eye for an eye and a pathological emotional dependence on the love of the people for her self-esteem. She was always going to crash and burn emotionally in the cynical, unromantic political environment of Westeros, especially King's Landing, unless she surrounded herself with loved ones and kind advisors and learned the value of tolerating dissent. Unfortunately, the Long Night and Cersei prevented that from being the case. Where I differ radically from D&D is that I recognise her story as being a heartbreaking tragedy of being a romantic (as in, believer in destiny and birthright) ideologue in an unforgiving environment. I weep for her in spite of what she did, whereas D&D's script implies they have no empathy. Allowing a female writer to help lead her to the same end would have helped.

@Yowatsapp 05 That's one of the least accurate comments I've seen in a while. First of all, I'm not that type of person at all. When a side character shows up, I'm almost always smart enough to know who they are, unless there's no way to, in which case I wait to find out. I haven't given you any reason to think otherwise, so you're pulling that statement out of somewhere dark and hard to access. Daenerys had a complex from early on about punishing the guilty and unloving. She was never a Mother Theresa (which, given that lady's established immoral attitude towards poor people, non-Catholics and others, is not a good analogy), much more of an Abraham Lincoln, who would start a war to give herself and others somewhere to call a stable home. And there are a fuck of a lot of things wrong with Hitler.

at 0:45 I just love the way Richard Madden delivers that one word, "Mother". It makes him look so much younger, like a little boy who's missed his mom so much. And I love the way you can clearly see him trying to restrain himself and remember that he's supposed look emotionally strong and manly around all this war talk. Its great.

I just love how casually and easy Umber tells her how they're going to free Ned. Especially the tone how he said it and the face he makes. little bit of a comedic extra in a more serious situation. love it.

Greatjon Umber was probably one of thé most seasoned fighters, and commanders in Westeros. He's fought wildlings for 30 years, been a veteran of multiple gréat wars: he's seen it all!, He's fought with and against many army's in Westeros, and he knóws: most of them are paid soldiers with training: the Northmen are far more experienced fighters: Greatjon Umber knéw they could defeat any army in the open field, pure on tactics and battle-experience.

They challenged the Greatjon to a Drinking-contest, yet he bested évery challenger, whilst getting utterly shitfaced himself, yet nobody could drink him under the table. When the Greatjon was considered too drunk to do a darn thing, the Red Wedding 'erupted'. The Greatjon was to be taken captive, and held as hostage to ensure the powerful House Umber's loyalty, yet the Greatjon proved to be far more capable then anyone thought he would: It took 7 or 8 men to subdue him, and still he managed to kill 1 or 2, and gravely wound 2-3 others? Thats one BEAST of a Lord though!

1:28, that look... it just looks so real, so true. Just the chemistry Michelle Fairley and Richard Madden had, you swear they were actually mother and son outside the show. That's how incredible the acting was in the earlier seasons. Michelle will always be the greatest talent this show ever had.

Because Theon was estranged from his father Balon, Alfie avoided to meet and talk with Patrick, they came only together when they had to shoot!

I like Robb's character way more than Jon. Though, Jon & Stannis in the books had great Ned & Robert vibes that made me appreciate him a little more.

I just love how he says "then its on to the Red Keep to free Ned" in such a casual way haha what a guy the Greatjon is.

Shame they didnt drop a detail on his capture at the Red Wedding, iirc, 'in the books' he takes out 8 men, and wounds a few more, before he's fínally overpowered, and dragged in a Frey dungeon(to ensure House Umber stays 'loyal'). Greatjon Umber was a béast of a warrior, (he would have made mince-meat out of the Mountain!) Shame they didnt have that much budget in the first season to show that a little bit.

I think the Greatjon may still be alive as in the books he is not dead. I think he is pretending to be dead because he knows Ramsay would never fully trust House Umber if the Greatjon were the current Lord because everyone in the North knows that the Greatjon and the Umbers are fiercely loyal to the Starks

He's a cool man for killing children and allowing his men to rape , he invaded innocent peoples land without thinking of the consequences, tywin was so confident that he'd win that he lost every battle to a boy, (Robb) and had to resort to a cowardly ways to win . He's no man , he's a sick weak fuck , couldn't even pull it together after his bitch wife Joanna died . The admiration i have so such people is more then I have for anything good . ( sarcasm) . Tywin is as sick has his daughter cersei and son Jamie . Glad they all died pitifully and painfully. Hope real life sick evil people irrespective of race/gender could die as well- the world would be better .

@@sppotterstark8057 Robb never faced Tywin in battle. He beat Jaime in an ambush where he greatly outnumbered him. He beat a leaderless army that was split into 3 in a surprise attack at Riverrun and the last one was another ambush against Stafford lannister commanding recruits. Yes Robb is a good technician, but he makes strategic mistakes (calling himself king, breaking an oath to the frays & and beheading Karstark). Tywin is as competent as Robb is tactically but excels in strategic planning. There's a reason Robb didn't attack Tywin directly, because he would likely lose a pitched Battle. (Forgive me if anything I said is wrong, I've not read the books)

This show used to mean something. There was more impact in this scene, these 3 minutes, than in all of the final season. No rushing, no bs. Everything made sense. Such a shame it ended the way it did.

Who else felt as proud of Robb as Catelyn? I admired how he played his strategies and he focused on their massive ego to bring them down and now the lannisters are panicking.

I wish i had seen more of Lord Umber. Paramount loyalty, acts like starks are his family too

Great scene between Robb and Cathelyn.

The fact that the Greatjon instantly gets up and bows his head speaks volumes to the respect Ned and his family had throughout the North. Sure, he was a bit crass, but respectful about it.

Just love how simple GreatJon thought it would be: Kick Tywin's ass, storm the Red Keep, pull the bars off Ned's cell and carry him out under one arm all while giving him shit about the mess he got himself in this time.

I can already imagine just how funny that scenario would, (After defeating the Lannisters in battle, the Northmen breach the walls of King's Landing and they eventually make their way up to the Red Keep. Greatjon grabs Varys by the shirt). Greatjon: "WHERE IS NED"!?!?!?!? Varys: "He-he....he-he's right over here my l-lord". (Varys leads him to the Black Cells, and Greatjon rips the bars of the cell with his bare hands, and carries Ned under his arm). Greatjon: "BY THE GODS NED!!!!! HOW THE HELL DID YOU GET YOURSELF INTO SUCH A MESS LIKE THIS IN THE FIRST PLACE"?!?!?!?!?!?!?

This is what a true mother looks like. Cersei may have loved her children, but she never supported them or their choices. Catelyn may not have agreed with Robb fighting in battle, but she understood he had to, not just for the north & his father, but for himself too. She certainly didn't agree with him marrying talisa, but learned that his happiness meant more to her then some promise. I really wish the Boltons didn't betray them.

Because Cersei was Tywin, she wanted to control them in her own way but was never really successful the way her father was. I totally agree with your opinion on Cat. Her love for them was fierce and pure. The series irritated me towards the end because she's barely mentioned, at all, even by her family.

+Saiyan Prince they didnt fight vs tywin at all .. the only battle they fought vs Tywin was a lose ..awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Battle_on_the_Green_Fork they had some luck with braking the siege of Riverrun and that's all, it was imposible for North to win a war against Westerlands in a long run, the west just had much more resources after Renly death it was game over for Starks ..

Always loved this scene. "If you lose we die." Sometimes the best way to cope is lay it all out, recognize the circumstance, and move forward without reservation.

I loved the bound between Robb and Catelyn, they will be forever my favorite characters of GoT 🐺🐟❤️

I've always liked how Greatjon addresses his liege lord as "Ned" rather than Lord Stark; it's as though they're relatives. Little moments like those from earlier in the series subtly highlighted how much Eddard Stark was regarded and admired by the northern lords.

"They were butchered in their sleep.... On the orders of Tywin Lannister... and the years have NOT made him kinder"... damn lol.

"I've won every battle, But I'm losing the war."

"Do you know what happened to the Targaryen children?" "They were butchered in their sleep." They were wide awake Robb.

Ikr. It’s pretty common knowledge Rhaenys was cowering under her fathers bed during the massacre & little baby Aegon was screaming at his mothers breast when the Mountain dashed his head against a wall. Nothing but butchery .

Best line in the entire show is clearly "We'll shove our swords up Tywin Lannister's bung hole and then it's on to the Red Keep to free Ned"

In the books he doesn't die (despite being at the rw), he fights everyone off unarmed and they only manage to take him prisoner, but the actor left the show in season 1, so I don't know what the show will do.

I miss them all so badly :((

Dammit George R.R. Martin...curse you for that Red Wedding...:( Rob should have marched on the Freys and the other houses of the North forced them to surrender under the unnegateable terms their men marched as Rob's Army and Bannermen then and there instead of going straight for the Lannisters. I know at that point they still had Ned Stark and the girls...but tactically not defeating the enemies to the North and melding them into his army before marching South was a huge tactical mistake.
