Push fits so well to Ken’s situation in the movie

It is one of the most misunderstood songs, but that's part of why it's so funny. A man who could write "Push" definitely has Kenergy-love Rob Thomas.

I remember guys playing wonderwall acoustic at every party back in the day. I think push makes more sense for Ken’s character. Def the right choice.

When Ken (Ryan) started singing the song l was like...oh this song sound familiar...as he kept singing..l finally figure it out😁. It was fitting in that part of the movie..😄

I'm so glad they did push instead of wonderwall. Wonderwall is such an on the nose uninspired obvious trite pick.

I just saw Match Box Twenty in concert and they were spectacular.

I laugh when I hear him sing it....muttles some of the words......but my daughter loves it....😊

I was so tickled when I heard this. I’ve been a huge matchbox twenty fan for decades AND Ryan gosling is my movie star crush so best of both worlds.😊

I could never understand why Rob Thomas had such an accent when singing "Well I will." Turns out he just does it intentionally. lol

I've always liked Ryan Gosling's singing since I heard him & Dean O'Gorman sing together in Young Hercules back in 1998...though he was singing on the Mickey Mouse Club back in 93-96 w/ artists like Justin Timberlake & JC Chasez from NSYNC & Britney Spears & Christina Aguilera too, so I love that they gave him this song to cover!

He released an indie album under Dead Man's Bones in the early 2000's. It's pretty good and I still listen to it from time to time

NGL, I loved the joke, I got the joke, but a small part of me worried that this song was going to BECOME a joke as a result, not just because I personally enjoy it but because of what it's about, which helped me get past an abusive relationship of my own. I can now breathe a sigh of relief knowing that, yes, it was all meant to be friendly ribbing and the consensus agrees that it is. :)

It's just so perfect on every level, because if you just take the lyrics at surface level, it's very obvious, "Yeah, of course this would be the song that perfectly represents the patriarchy." And the chorus has an energy to it where you feel like, "Yeah, of course a bunch of incels would gravitate to this song." But then on a deeper level, it's actually a great fit for Ken, who winds up where he does on his character arc because he's in a very unhealthy relationship with Barbie that (through no one's fault) is emotionally abusive. It's not a coincidence that Barbie says, "I'm sorry I took you for granted." It's truly such an inspired choice.

@@ferallemur I wouldn't call it emotionally abusive, more like emotionally immature, or even just earnestly ignorant. Barbie doesn't feel the same way about Ken that he feels about her, but it also doesn't occur to her that she'd have to tell him that in plain language. Ken, meanwhile, has no idea how to handle these feelings because, unlike Barbie, he has no one to talk about them with. Toxic masculinity is basically his only choice because those kind of men are the only ones who'll actually listen to him, as is usually the case (it's exactly how the alt right operates). Barbie sees that Ken is taking himself a little too seriously by playing this song, but she also understands the lyrics of it better to intuit "Oh, he's acting like this because I didn't listen to him when he wanted me to" (basically, "he's only doing it cuz he likes you and doesn't know how to say it," and a good example of WHY positive masculinity is important: listen to boys' feelings and teach them HOW to handle them so they don't use them to hurt others). I didn't notice that she specifically said "I'm sorry I took you for granted." That's pretty clever!
