Rob Rensenbrink - The Snake Man [Best Goals & Skills]
'Het Slangenmens'... But for the width of a post, he would have streets named after him in Amsterdam. A sinuous, commanding presence on the pitch, capable of amazing feats.

He was similar in both looks and playing style to Cruyff it seems. So much incredible talent in the 70s Dutch team!

Oh. It's sorry.
1978, I went to primary school, and the World Cup in Argentina was the first one that I remembered later fragmentarily. his name - Rensenbrink - was probably the first of the foreign football players I remembered. and when we kids chased the ball in the yard in Baku in my homeland Azerbaijan, I proudly announced his name. since then, the Netherlands has been my favorite team. RIP, the idol of my childhood. with pleasant memories, once from Azerbaijan, and now from Poland

So when there was the EURO 1988 between the Netherlands and the USSR - which team did you support?
@bakliranlbalas9519

@@clemensgruber7278 During Euro'88, of course, I was for my home country, the USSR. The disappointment was very great. The next day I came to the German exam in our Leipzig language institute (the former GDR), and my comelitone from Mozambique looked at me with a pitying look that I still remember today. I think the Dutch, not only the footballers, but also as the people as a whole, are very sympathetic, but during the final I hated Hans van Breukelen, the Big Hans, when he tried to annoy and provoke our Belanov before the penalty kick

@@bakliranlbalas9519 Hi! Hi! Thank you for your answer!' I'm Austrian and I'm of course a big fan of Dutch football too - mainly of course of that era (otherwise I would hardly have watched a video about Rob Rensenbrink:-) But now let's forget about the era of Rensenbrink and Cruyff, let's move to the match which was the reason for my contact. I was 12 years ald back in 1988 and for some reasons I didn't like the Dutch football team back then. On the other hand I had deep respect towards the Soviet Union - not only as a spot nation but also politically as I admired the enoermous power of that nation. So of course I supported the USSR and got pissed off when Holland finally won-) The reason I asked you which team you supported was as for me it wasn't clear how a fan of Dutch football from Aserbaidschan would feel in that situation. You wrote that you supported your "home country" - so you obviously considered the USSR your home country and not as I assumed the then Soviet Republic of Aserbaidschan. I mean that was already 3 years after the start of Perestrojka and Glasnost and nationalism was on the rise throughout the USSR. So I guess that a certain amount of Soviet citizens was certainly far away from patriotic feelings and probably supported the Dutch team instead of their own - especially if they were fans of Dutch football. Greetings from Vienna Clemens

@@bakliranlbalas9519 it should have been a Republic of Ireland USSR final. In the 2 nd match the ROI absolutely battered the USSR but failed to get the 2nd goal. Then the USSR equalised. The Dutch had been beaten in their opening game by the USSR. Great tournament in truth.
I was just a little boy when watched on tv Johan Cruyff, Rensenbrink and rest of talented Dutch squad overwhelmingly beating my Brazil back in 1974. RIP Mr. Rensenbrink, the legend.

Uno dei piu'completi attaccanti esistiti, tecnica, velocita', eleganza, buon tiro, ed anche umilta'. Avesse giocato nell'Ajax, avrebbe avuto piu'successi e popolarita'. Era un piacere vederlo giocare

Great player who would have received more recognition if he had played for Ajax or Feyenoord. Instead he went from DWS to Belgium where he was the best player in their first division for many years. Always remembered for hitting the post in the final minutes of the 1978 world cup final when the Dutch eventually lost in extra time. Rust zacht Robbie.

The hero of the Netherlands in 1974 & 1978. Thanks for the memories Robbie.
One of the greatest Dutch players ever, it's a measure of his talent that he played in Belgium most of his career and was still a regular for Holland, was just 6 inches away from winning a world cup for Holland but you can watch it again and again and the ball still won't go in lol loved to have seen Holland beat the arrogant Argies in their own back yard in the world cup final

Sweet memories. Rest in Peace good man.
I started tô love this game in 70's....Cruyff, Resenbrink, Beckenbauer, Keegan, Muller, Pelé, Rivellino, Deyna ❤

Sad to hear of Robbies passing away. As a 13 year old watching 74 world cup in England i was enthralled by the great Dutch side was upset when they lost the final and alas again in 78. RIP great man and thanks for the memories.
I rememember him missing a golden worldcup WINNING !! opportunity in the dying minutes of the 1978 worldcup final against Argentina....... Had he scored, the worldcup would have been ours, finally and deserved! We lost in extra time and I cried>>> " "'Oranjes jacht naar wereldgoud weer over..."' Rob was a brilliant left forward, fast en goal oriented ; very much like master Cruyffie. I saw them both playing "close up" as a ball boy in the EREDIVISIE in 1972/1973. Groetjes mate! Very few in Italy knew him when he showed his immense talent on the 1974 World Cup. I remember a journalist commenting about him that, if he was more able to score goals, he would be like Stanley Matthews. Well, I don't know how many goals Sir Stanley scored, but Rob was an excellent scorer.
@ronniep9272
10 ай бұрын
Stanley Matthews was not a good goalscorer at all, his whole game was about dribbling past the left back and putting in a cross into the box. Rensenbrink scored lots of goals for Bruges and Anderlecht so it was very bad journalism.
@carlosanguineti956
10 ай бұрын
@@ronniep9272 At the time, in Italy, not only the people, but even the journalists knew only the players that they could see on RAI TV, the state TV broadcasting system. If a someone was playing in a team that was not, for any reason, broadcasted, no one knew who he was. The journalist that said about the goal scoring attitudes of Matthews and Rensenbrink probably didn't know anything about both of them. Unless you bought foreign specialized magazines, you could know very little of the players and the kind of football played outside of Italy.

In my comment I was very careful, since, even on TV, I never saw Sir Stanley Matthews playing a whole game, while I saw Rob Rensenbrink playing for The Netherlands (many times) and for Anderlecht (few times). But, I don't know in your Country, but in Italy to speak in detail about something you are barely aware of the existence is quite usual on newspapers and TV. With some exceptions, off course...

An absolute legend. I used to pretend to be Rensenbrink when I played football at school. One of my heroes.
Really an old fashioned inside left, played most of his career as a left winger but had rare skills as a striker. Best moment on the video is the goal against West Ham - he doesn't panic, drops his shoulder, sends the defence careering and slots it home. I remember the World Cup in 1978 when he was taking penalties almost every game and I was betting on which side he would put the next one.
