    I have heavy faith in Rob. He’s shown that his talent level is high and he can translate to higher levels along with adapt/buy in to different roles.

    Simply the best offensive player in college basketball in isolation in years. Suspect defender, though.

    Definitely the best freshman, at least. His defense might be a problem (especially for some coaches), but to what extent also depends on just how much of his offensive ceiling he fulfills. Trae Young, for instance, hasn't been a passable defender until this season (his sixth) and I think he's still an all-star+all-league guard just about every NBA team would covet.

    Top 10 imo. Small guards don’t see lots of success cuz of lack of opportunity. Remember Maxey was the 21st pick, and darius garland was considered the worst player in the nba his rookie year. Rob is of that mold. Don’t overthink it.

    On my personal big board, I currently have Rob at #10. It's just that I'm not entirely confident yet that he won't drop (although he could move up, as well) 2-3 spots before the end of the season depending on what some other prospects do. I have a lot of faith in Rob as well. Like you pointed out here and I mentioned in the video, the willingness he's shown to buy in to an off-ball role at Kentucky has been huge for him. He hadn't shown that at all before. We even saw yesterday how effective this can be when he went off for 35 vs. Tennessee, making and creating plenty of tough buckets for himself but also being very comfortable catching and shooting. Guards like Maxey and Garland are all-stars while being small, but they're ultimately outliers when it comes to the 500+ players there are in the NBA. I also think Rob might be smaller than both because some people who've seen him live aren't sure that he's even a legit 6-feet. They're also better passers imo, though Rob is underrated in this department in terms of creativity and delivery. At the end of the day, despite how much I like Dillingham, the margins for small guards in the NBA are very thin. It's a matter of opportunity to an extent, but there are also reasons why teams in the league are increasingly hesitant to afford small guards these chances. The point guard position is bigger than ever in the NBA (I believe the average height ends up being around 6-foot-4) and the goal is for everyone on the floor to be bigger, longer, and more skilled. This can pose problems finishing at the rim and defensively, so these small guards have to be incredible to separate them from being a 6th man type (like maybe Marcus Sasser might end up being or someone like Aaron Holiday) vs. a bona fide all-star (like a Garland or even a Trae Young, who I think shares similarities to Rob).

    @@FloorandCeiling I like and respect this take a lot actually and agree with a majority of the things you said. Small guards are a flash in the pan and looking at the sample size of successful ones i’m sure would make people very wary. I think in terms of height he looks to be taller than Calipari who is listed 6’2” but i think he appears small due to his proportions and wingspan. Though in terms of NBA teams passing on him due to this fear of lack of length, i could see that very well being the case which is why i hope he lands to a team not already clogged at the PG position whether that be the Spurs of the Raptors where i think he could potentially be given more opportunity and the leeway to make mistakes. I appreciate your content that you put out, it’s very in depth and informative. Wishing you more success 💯

    You sir…are a Houston Rocket 🚀 Dillingham will pair nice off the bench with Amen, Cam, Tari, and Adams. Ime will teach him how to play defense better as long as the effort is there, just like he did with Jalen Green and Sengun. He can take over the starting PG role after they decline FVV team option next offseason.

    @@Dirty_deuce1906 I hear you. Thing is, I'm so high on Cam and Amen that I believe they'll be playing much more on-ball sooner rather than later. By the time the Rockets move on from FVV, my hope is that one or both of those guys (particularly Amen, who profiled as a point guard as a prospect) can handle those responsibilities.

    Sure, but I think you also have to consider that most of these guys are exceptions to the rule. There are over 500 players in the NBA and the most successful of those guards are guys who are bona fide all-stars/all-league guys. Steph has generational shooting and probably Dame too, Ja has generational athleticism, Kyrie with his handles...then, there are outlier tools. Jalen Brunson's strength, Donovan Mitchell's length, Quickley and Maxey's speed... Getting further down the list, some of these guys have had big questions surrounding them before finding a fit. Cam Payne was almost entirely out of the league, Seth Curry's value has been going down for a while now, Dennis Schroeder (although unfairly imo) had to work really hard after 2021 to re-establish his reputation. I feel you, though, that it's not impossible for small guards to have success. It's just that they're facing an uphill climb. I think guys like Garland, Maxey, and even Trae make sense for what Dillingham needs to do to get into that type of tier.

    Some of these guards such as dmitch still have greater physicals. Dmitch is by far more athletic, way longer, and stronger. This goes for several guards here such as scoot and also not every guard you listed is what you’d want out of a top pick

    Appreciate it! I have Rob as the #10 prospect in this draft, but I find it hard to push him higher than that because I think he'd have to be truly special in order to be an all-star type. I think he can get there with his scoring, but I have some concerns there about reverting into old habits having watched Rob since his junior year in high school. He's incredibly creative and explosive, but I'm still not totally sure about how he blends into an NBA team with more established players, hierarchies, etc. That said, this is also why his buy-in at Kentucky has been so impressive. I also like his passing, but I think he needs to improve by several levels before he's special there. Part of this might just be because he shares ballhandling duties with Reed and DJ at UK, though. Finally, it's his defense which really prevents me from having him higher.

    It is difficult to look at Dillingham and not remember other players with very similar physiques such as Maxey, Garland or "Bones" Hyland. And he is a very specific type of player that does not usually give bad results in the NBA. His college stats show us that he is a better three-point shooter than Maxey and Bones (and worse than Garland) and he gives more assists than all of them. Possibly this is his differential point: his good assists/turnovers ratio. And his problems come from his poor body and that his defense is quite mediocre, with a lot of pointless hands.

  • @FloorandCeiling

    @FloorandCeiling

    I think Dillingham will be successful in the NBA but, like I touched on in another comment, it will also depend (at least early on) on the team which drafts him and how much freedom they let him play with. For example, one could argue that Bones' NBA career might be going better today on different teams. First, in a Denver team with championship aspirations and, now, on a Clippers team with those same goals. His time on the court has gone down every year.

    @@FloorandCeiling Of course, the team that picks you in the draft plays a key role in a player's development, but it is not the only factor. In Bones' case, there may have been other problems. These types of players always have an added element of complication: that of believing they are "too good".

    Thanks for watching. Totally agree that context is going to be very important for Dillingham. Looking at the projected lottery, I might actually like him in OKC the best. San Antonio would be the most entertaining and interesting, but not sure how much patience or leeway they'd have. On the flipside, I wouldn't feel great about him in Memphis or Atlanta (if he was to be drafted there for whatever reason). Rob has a similar skillset to Maxey and the same electric speed, but I think a big difference is Maxey's strength and I also thought he was better at the basket than Rob when at Kentucky. That said, Maxey should've never, ever fallen to #21 in his respective draft.

    @@echo-kz5kr I don't know what his exact real height is, but I'd be incredibly shocked if it was truly the 6-3 that Kentucky is listing him at. As for the finishing, Maxey made 65.1% of his shots at the rim (109 total attempts in 31 games) with 19.7% being assisted. Dillingham is at 55.6% conversion (72 attempts in 20 games, so smaller sample size for now) with 42.5% being assisted. Maybe Rob is more creative, but he hasn't been as effective as Tyrese was.

    Sorry Trae isn't the right comparison on offense It's Kemba Walker, and that's the upside Unfortunately, this guy has a very slim chance of becoming a starter due to not projecting as a primary ball handler on non-Jokic/Bam/Lebron teams and even for those, Jamal and Kyrie are way better defenders than he is I know I'm not the consensus, but I believe the consensus will turn this guy into a bust

  • @FloorandCeiling

    Kemba Walker as a high outcome is still a great result, though. That would be an All-NBA player and a multi-time all-star. Dillingham is bad on defense and he's probably always going to be poor on that end of the floor, but I think he can overcome it with what he does on the other end. Like you're saying, he's not going to be the #1 option on a team and he will likely work best next to a bigger playmaker, but I think the same thing could be said for most small point guards nowadays except for someone like Steph or maybe Jalen Brunson. Even guys like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Anthony Edwards or Donovan Mitchell (because of his wingspan and strength, more than size) are "bigger" guards.

    @CaioFehr90

    @FloorandCeiling Thanks for the response, really appreciate it Kemba is the ceiling, because strength can be conquered in the gym I'm not sure if Dillingham can have Walker's work ethic But tbh for me the most probable outcome is a more offensively proficient Lou Williams, with even worse defense. I like his IQ and energy, seems to be have a head on his shoulders based on improving hard things to improve such as shot selection, but the height and frame issues haven't been taken seriously in my opinion

    @@FloorandCeiling - I’m seeing some projections for him as high as #2. It doesn’t add up though. Don’t get me wrong, I’m in favor of everyone getting as much money as they can, for as long as they can. But there is a reason that the ecosystem of American basketball is broken. The player’s are using quick fixes and quick fixes aren’t always the long-term solutions. A few of the best examples of this are Lonzo Ball, Ben Simmons, and Markelle Fultz. Neither player allowed themselves to develop their bodies in college and now each are chronically injured. IMO the broken ecosystem of American men’s basketball is for these reasons. It’s also why the women’s game is gaining in popularity. March Madness is more entertaining in the women’s bracket because we know who they are. The average fan can map their faces to names, unlike the men. Thankfully, you have this channel to shine light on what’s to come in the future. Otherwise, with such a fast turnstile of player movement, we fans wouldn’t know any of the POTENTIAL up and coming stars. Keep up the good work!
