Rob Burrow’s Wife Lindsey Opens Up On The Reality Of Being A Full-Time Carer | Loose Women

Ойын-сауық

In December 2019, just two years after retiring from his professional rugby league career, Rob Burrow received the devastating diagnosis that he had motor neurone disease (MND). At the time, Rob was given two years at most to live, but nearly four years on he’s determined to continue defying the odds. With Lindsey by his side as his full time carer, the family have now raised £13 million for motor neurone disease charities. Alongside Rob's former team-mate Kevin Sinfield, the couple were awarded the Special Recognition Award at this year’s Pride of Britain Awards. Lindsey joins us to raise awareness of MND and discuss the realities of being Rob’s full-time carer whilst supporting her children and maintaining a job, as well as the power of remaining positive - whatever the circumstances.

What a genuinely lovely woman. I can’t imagine a loved one having this evil cruel disease. Literally trapped in ur own body. Most people would give up straight away but how rob has carried on n on is a huge inspiration what a guy. ❤

I live in Italy. My nephew Carmine has MND. He was diagnosed in July 2019. He is 46 and has 3 children and a wonderful wife called Nunzia. They are in the same situation and all my admiration and prayers go out to you. My husband Peppe and I have seen what this terrible disease does.

I think this woman is amazing. All my respect to her and her family. The only thing I cannot help commenting is that I think portraying such difficult situations as all positive can be difficult to watch for people with terminal illness as I doubt that Rob is doing very well all the time. I am sure he has very tough days like anyone else with a terminal illness. I am sure the family every now and then falls apart, it would be inhuman not to. What I am saying is that positivity is admirable but that is only part of the story and not the whole story…I do wish this family all the best.

How I agree with you. My husband is in the advanced stage of MND, and I have not had any carers in to help me yet, and I’m finding it all extremely difficult. He can’t do anything for himself, and I get very stressed as I’m nearly 80. My poor husband very rarely complains, and I try to hide the stress from him, but I can’t always manage it, because I’m only human. God help him.
