    Nice video - thanks for sharing. Just read some of the comments. IMHO and using so many different spearguns over the years I always come back to RA. Main reason probably being I trust the gear. And as said so many times also by Chris Coates, I keep all RA and just change the length of barrel as needed (range, vis, etc) - making it very smooth to transition between guns. It is interesting to read sometimes comments of technical nature, that let assume the writer of those comments must be very experienced AND has done himself a lot of test to be able to speak so confidently about it, For my part I believe in constantly learning to become a better/safer hunter. If I gain a mm more or a gram less etc is probably not the highest priority IMO. Keep it up RA. Love what you do and how much you share... (I'm not being sponsored in any way!) :)

    Great looking gun Rob is there a chance you can put a anchor between the two so you have varying power points?? Also r you looking @ on yr roller muzzle having a kicker band so you can have best of both worlds???

    It is possible to fit a third hook, no one before you had asked. Re a kicker band, on the standard rollers it over powers the spear. We'd rather make a double roller for this Timberline.

    These are lovely but when are you going to update your handle to a reverse trigger mech? My Pathos 82 has more band pull than my RA 90 and is shorter than my RA 70, effectively rendering both of my RA guns utterly obsolete - I haven’t used either in 5+ years. Would be nice to see a bit of innovation on this side. More important for short guns, I know but I think you’re pretty much the only manufacturer still using what is a very outdated mech style.

  • @RobAllenSpearfishing

    @RobAllenSpearfishing

    2 жыл бұрын

    I am of the opinion the reverse makes no difference when you consider some facts. Why do you need more power when you can already overpower the gun just by shortening the rubbers? Overpowering a gun will make it inaccurate. We have done many pool tests showing this. Also, many battle to pull the bands that far back as the further back you need to pull the bands, the more difficult it is. To compensate, many will then fit longer bands to enable them to load all the way back, defeating the object of the reverse mechanism in the first place.

  • @mdoc140

    @@RobAllenSpearfishing agree 100%. That last few cm on a rear mech makes it a total pain to load.

  • @BR0SE1DON

    @BR0SE1DON

    @@RobAllenSpearfishing those are not valid points at all. I’m not trying to overpower a gun, I don’t want hard to load, over tight bands. That’s the last thing I want. A reverse trigger shortens the gun by a good 12cm, it’s as simple as that. Why would I use an RA 90 when I can have an equivalent gun (band stretch) that is smaller than an RA 70? In environments where small guns are essential, this is really important. There’s a reason that no-one I know uses RA guns any more, they are just not suited to the local, low vis conditions, other manufacturers produce products that are better for our environment. I appreciate that small guns are probably not your primary concern as a business and that the re-tooling and costs to update your range to reverse mechs would be very costly but don’t pretend that the outdated mech layout you use is superior, it’s a purely financial decision. I can’t think of any other premium manufacturers that use the ‘old’ trigger layout any more. It’s outdated. Generally when people protest that ‘everyone one else is wrong, I’m right’, they’re generally wrong. Don’t get me wrong, I’m actually a real fan of the company and it’s products but the reverse mech omission is a real let down for me and makes the guns non-viable for my needs, which is a shame.

  • @RobAllenSpearfishing

    @RobAllenSpearfishing

    @@BR0SE1DON Why are the points not valid? The majority of new and or young divers will have difficulty loading a reverse mechanism gun correctly set up. We prefer to manufacture gear that is suited for the majority. I don’t get your point with the 70cm reverse trigger being the same an RA 90? There are so many variables from one gun to another, spear size, band lengths and types, barrel buoyancy etc. I do understand you will make the gun a little shorter by moving the spear back a little. I’d see this being an advantage with a longer gun that is harder to swing/maneuver. 12cm shorter will reduce the drag but, at the same time reduce range. If the barrel was not shortened but the spear was made longer, the range would increase slightly. I do agree our guns were not as suitable in low vis conditions when compared to other brands. This is why we brought out this Timberline roller, in the short lengths we can make it strong and buoyant. Please don’t jump to the conclusion that we are not changing to a reverse mechanism because of financial reasons. You obviously have no idea how much R+D we put into new products. We would have done this in a heartbeat if we saw sufficient merit to do so. On a side note, what is your thoughts on the small ID bands “all premium manufacturers” are pushing?

    Aloha guys. Reading these comments I'd like to share my experience. I bought a carbon RA 110 and that was my go to gun for a couple years. Then I bought a reverse mech from MVD and changed it. Long story short, I sold that gun and bought another RA. I learned the hard way that a reverse Mech is not better. I just shorten the bands. Also Small ID bands are great but expensive. Cheers from Hawaii🤙🏼🤙🏼
