    Sad to be 83 and in a retirement community. Loved my 2nd RA gun open muzzle Tuna gun 10 years ago. Deadly accurate. My 2 snapper last summer (2018) may be my last freedive joy. New pacemaker let me get my second shot at 50 ft. Now live vicariously through other spearo's on you tube. Would love to have shot a RA roller.

    Dear Rob, i bought a used 120 Gt Carbon Roller Gun , and decided to cut the barrel short to make it a 110 , i noticed a ballast weight in the muzzle when i took it off to cut the carbon barrel short... my question is ....should the ballast weight decrease since the barrel and the shaft are shorter? is it necesary to have a ballast since the roller head is heavier than the conventional muzzle?

    only thing is, i've noticed a lot of my friends with rollerguns, their washers and screws come apart easily. Happened on 3-4 different guns (total) belonging to 3 different people. while i still think it's the best gun on the market, you guys at the factory should look into that.

  • @FaddaWolf
    @FaddaWolf6 жыл бұрын

    question. Why do you guys recommend the 110 roller? I'm so used to 120 RA guns... I have a 110 tuna as well but i use it in and around the rocks (1 rubber). However, when i go blue water, i use my 120 snapper (converted to tuna) which is so much easier to use! I even leave the snapper set up sometimes and land good fish. Was thinking of getting a roller gun but more the 120... can u guys just clarify why and i'll make my decision then?

    Small id bands are they good for rollers and do I cut them the length as standard bands?

  • @roballen1578

    @roballen1578

    3 жыл бұрын

    It depends on the diameter. In terms of volume, the smaller ID adds so little that it is actually less than what the actual rubber tolerances are. Add 0,2mm to the outer diameter and it will off set it.

    What do you think of replacing the 7.5 shaft on the 90 roller gun for a 7 shaft for better balance? It feels like the 90 lacks buoyancy for a 7.5.

  • @RobAllenSpearfishing

    @RobAllenSpearfishing

    Agreed. We do offer a 7mm with a 14mm band. You can also use a 6,6mm shaft with a 12mm band. You do need to be mindful and match the band to the shaft mass.

    @@RobAllenSpearfishing So you think a used 16mm still overpowers a 7mm despite it being a roller? Edit: In colder water mind you.

  • @RobAllenSpearfishing

    @@monstermun yes, it gets the spear up to max speed too soon. Also, this higher roller speed increases the vortices. This increases the likelihood of the spear line getting entrapped in the roller.

    Hi Uncle Rob and the team, I just got my Tuna Roller Gun recently. Found out that the gun is negatively buoyancy after shooting. Is there a way that the team can create a wing stabilizer or floaters that can be attached to the gun to improve buoyancy? Thanks, Uncle Rob and the team. :-D

    @@RobAllenSpearfishing Just an update. For a quick fix, I attached a RA floatline bungee 1 m from the gun clip to my dive belt's pin. In case of emergency, I can unbuckle my belt and off goes the gun. Just a quick fix, but it will be nice for the roller gun to flow. I know the muzzel head is heavy. Thanks Uncle Rob and the team. :-D

    I notice you do sell these up to 130 cm. What happens at 110 cm that makes it not worth it to go bigger? In an extreme example of a 150 cm gun, what happens that makes it not beneficial to convert to roller? Love your gear, and thanks for making these videos.

    Longer gun means longer shaft which means heavier shaft. The extra band stretch you get on longer gun like 120 or 130 will not compensate to the heavier shaft. So you lose effective range as you go bigger from 110. I’ve Pool tested every single one and he’s right. From 15 feet away you drop about an inch off target when you go bigger. While the 110 is laser at 15ft. At 20ft the 110 still hits target about 1/2 inch off. While 120 drops about 2 inches or more. Still deadly accurate if you’re shooting a big fish, you should have enough room to hit it. But just giving you an idea of what to expect

  • @orlandorodriguez7235

    @orlandorodriguez7235

    The one benefit of longer gun like 120 is that a heavier shaft gives you more penetration power when shooting larger fish.

  • @orlandorodriguez7235

    @orlandorodriguez7235

    I personally chose the 120 as the Jack of all trades. I don’t like to take long shots anyways so I rather have more penetration than risking a far away shot

    @Orlando Rodriguez would you suggest the 7mm shaft with 14 mm bands or the 7.5 with 16 mm bands. I shoot a lot of black grouper out of holes and rocks which makes me think I would benefit from the extra penetration from the 7.5. But I dont want to substitute accuracy either

    The standard single roller with a 16mm band (powered up) and a drop barb spear will easily take Tuna up to 100kg. The world Record marlin of 375kg was stoned with a 14mm banded roller.

    @@RobAllenSpearfishing Thank you very much for answer. Yes it's possible but very very rare. Fish should come very close usually it doesn't happen. Normal setups are classic 4x16mm bands 8mm shaft with sliptip and inverters with 8.5-10mm shafts. Would be good to have double roller for 7.5 shaft. or may be new type of gun with bigger barrel for 8mm shaft double roller or better inverter. Some company do investigations in this area. I know you will do it better.
