    Thanks for sharing and appreciate it that this bus was equipped with the manual transmission not only that, the Detroit 8V71 in that bus sounded great.

    I've never driven a non-synchro manual before. Would love to give it a go some day. Very cool bus by the way. Glad he was able to get it out of that mud and come back again with more momentum.

    @@SternDrive I'm sure it takes a long time to get it down and it eventually becomes muscle memory. I've daily driven manuals most of my adult life but they were all modern light duty gearboxes. I've seen some videos of truck drivers twin-sticking before and that was amazing as well.

  • @MerlynAStern

    Shane Singleton If you can drive a manual car and you are interested, you can pick it up pretty quick. Muscle memory just makes it easier. The important thing is knowing what to do. Many green drivers struggle because nobody shows them proper technic. After you are shown it becomes easy. My Chev Cruz is very SLOW shifting compared to a modern non-synchro 18 speed manual truck transmission. They are so fast (if you use the splitter) that you barely have time to double clutch. That is why many guys do not use the clutch much.

    I have only seen pictures of this bus as well as videos and only one time so far did I ever get to see a Scenicruiser in real life. I have other nice memories and associations with the sound of the Detroit 8v71 that are with Flxible New Look buses and GMC New Look Fishbowl buses from times I road the buses of Southern California Rapid Transit District.

    I've wanted one since I was given a Matchbox "Scenicruiser" at age three, back when Greyhound was still running most of them. Now I'm almost 45 and still don't have one. I captured the "Allen And The Mighty PD4501" video a few years ago just for the exhilarating views of seeing the beauty running down the road, and to hear the unmistakable sound of an old fashion Detroit.

    wait, I remember this 4501. This dude was test driving it on some back roads about 8 years ago. It was in great shape back then though. I guess the northeastern winters got to it and maybe it sat abandon. The video was posted in 2007 but the quality was that of an old Early 90's VHS camera.

    Hello there peeps. I'm an amateur model kit builder and have been after a 1956 (called "Pepsi" because of its color combo) GM Coach PD-4105 model kit, at 1/24 or 1/36 scale. Can anyone help me locate a hobby store that might have it in stock? I've tried for many weeks but so far have been unsuccessful. I consider the Scenicruiser the epitome of North American bus manufacturing. They no longer build such beautiful cars/designs in my humble opinion. Great video and keep it up. Thank you in advance fellows.

    I wonder if a DD 8 V 71 can be mated with a more modern trans. like a Roadranger 15 speed ?

  • @SternDrive

    @SternDrive

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@xzqzq A Roadranger 15 speed would be wonderful ! My favorite transmission, but they don't make them anymore. I driven lots of them, but they are rare now. A lot of these GM buses had the engines mounted sideways, so I don't know if a modern 18 speed could be put behind one of those old "Screamin' Jimmies" The old 4 speed crash boxes were not hard to drive, but they had a huge split between gears, so a modern multi speed tranny would be great.

    When " Starting ANY Motor Vehicle, " the Last thing you want to do is REV the Engine ! The reason for this is because the " Oil has Not Gotten Up To the ( Valve ) Heads ! If you do this, you will be starting them " Dry " !! A friend once told me that a seasoned auto mechanic said ; " that if you give the engine 30 seconds of " Idle " time , you'll be alright. If you let the engine Idle for 60 seconds , you will with " regular oil changes " Reach the " Expected Engine Life. " If you give the engine 2 minutes Idle time, you can [ W/ regular oil changes ( 2000 miles ) ] " Double the life " your engine !
