I saw these guys live in '84, '86 and '88. First time, I was standing about 10 feet in front of Mike Mills (the bassist). Been to a shit-ton of shows, but I still think that was the best live performance I've ever seen. Just super, super intense.

More videos like this please! Great song of a great band! Like you said; it’s wonderful and magical what music can do to you. The first song I can remember I heard when I was a kid was AC/DC - Night prowler, blasting through the speakers of my fathers old Ford Taunus on our way to kindergarten in the early 90’s😂

I have watched several of their live performances of this, he always uses the bullhorn. Considering the subject matter, it lends a depth and power to the performance. My playlist has a live performance over the studio version.

I love the idea of this series. (Heading over to the In Flames one after this haha!) The first time I heard Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in concert, I cried from pure nostalgia. My dad listened to them so much while I was growing up. So much of my music taste is traced to my parents: rock/folk/country from my dad, pop from my mom. When I hear a song from my youth, it hits in a whole different way. Thank you for sharing this piece of yourself and also just a great gear breakdown ☺️💜🤘🏼🎸 I love REM too! 80's/90's kid haha

I saw them live on Pink Pop Festival maybe 1-2 years before that song was released. Was after the release of Lifes Rich Pagent i think. Yeah at that time i think there were also no well-known dutch bands who played there. Guess at that time i only knew Jan Akkerman and his former band Focus and it took over 10 more years until all those dutch female metal goddess suddenly appeared on the stages😄

Out of all the bands my parents would play as I grew up REM was the first one I personally explored. Losing my Religion was the one that caught my interest. I still call them one of my favorite bands. They had a series where they drove around Athens found a cool spot and then in one take played a song and moved on. I recommend Sing for the Submarine from that series, not for a reaction but just to check out.

This is a really cool idea to show off the songs that shaped your musical journey. I can't remember the first song I ever heard specifically but it was either Children's Crusade by Sting, Puff the Magic Dragon by Peter, Paul, and Mary, or a song from The Beatles. I was born in 1997 and this was the type of music my parents played for me.

This song is superb. MUCH underrated. Definitely NOT anything like the first alternative rock band. I have been a listener to alternative bands since the 60's. Many bands are "alternative" until other bands start using a similar style, Everybody forgets how creative it was when they turned up. Led Zepplin was about a alternative as you could get when the first album came out. The arpeggio guitar riff is one of the greats. Can't agree about the Rick sounds. It is my most unfavourite guitar sounds in the world. Even the Beatles couldn't make it sound good. When I bought my first guitar in the late 60's , I said "I want a guitar that doesn't sound like a Rickenbacker" The effects of Agent orange are STILL occuring. Damaged DNA!!!!
