It's always a pleasure to see your beard shaking at the rhythm of some stupid tune of ours! We're glad you enjoyed this one, too! And sorry for the lack of subtitles in the italian spoken part... that is a verse taken from Dante's Divine Comedy, and it is written in ancient italian that no one understands anyway

I wonder, what could be a good line up for a whole festival full of bands that don't take themselves too serious? I was also thinking of Feuerschwanz, Alestorm, Rumahoy, Windrose and Gloryhammer. Together with Nanowar of Steel and Electric Callboy they really have that party metal vibe. But how to fill an entire day? Any more ideas that fits the list?

Italian here. The "pape satan aleppe" is from Dante's Inferno. A demon at the Gates of hell shouts it. Its nonsense that has been interpreted in many ways. It's a hymn to Satan, "Pape" could mean Pope (so "Pope Satan") and "aleppe" could mean something like "allez paix", french for "peace go away". In the italian bit in the song (also from Dante's Inferno), Vergil (Dante's guide in the afterlife) tells Dante not to worry about the demon shouting to intimidate them. Also, "c'è da spostare una bara, è un diesel" means "there's a coffin that has to be moved, it's a diesel", probably a reference to the trash italian song "C'è da spostare una macchina" by Francesco Salvi. Cheers!
@jotunn30

Another Italian : yeah the coffin bit is for sure a reference to that song but i think it's also a play on DJs in rural "trashy" clubs jsut announcing there's a car to move in the middle of the set(i heard it happen a lot lol) which might be a very italian thing

The Italian part is an extract of the poem "The Divine Comedy" written by Dante Alighieri in the 14th century. It is defined as the greatest masterpiece of the Italian literature and It is read in every Italian school done by the age interval from 14 to 18.
"Pape Satan Aleppe" is the opening line of Canto VII of Dante Alighieri's Inferno. It's famous for the uncertainty of it's meaning. The most widespread modern interpretation is that it's some kind of demonic invocation to Satan.
The most hilarious thing is that now all the world knows about Formia, a city 40km from where I live and before NoS song no one have clue what it was... neither in Italy xD
Another song full of creativity and funny stuff, for example "What is morgue?" that reminds to "What is love?" of Haddaway. Nanowar did it again! 🤘🇮🇹🎼
There are a ton of references, some will be obscure even to Italians, since they are quite old. Frex, at some point, you can hear "c'è da spostare una macchina" who means "there is a car to be move". Which is a rather common announcement who happens while at disco, but is a reference to an old trash song of the same title, made in 1998 by Francesco Salvi, who was mainly a comic actor but has done some funny songs
@lisar1938
Жыл бұрын
To be precise he says there is a coffin to move but the reference is to he song you told. The reek of putrefaction reference is a Carcass album title. The Dante's Commedia verse is slightly altered and when they sing Pape Satan Aleppe over and over it sounds very similar to Papetee which is a summer beach resort in Milano Marittima where Salvini, an Italian politician know for his anti immigration views used to go. Emilia Romagna, where Milano Marittima is, is famous for its nightlife and discos.

The fact that he comes in at exactly 3:00 makes me wonder if it might be a reference to canto 3, dantes entrance to hell.
5:00 Because the winner of Sanremo (The italian biggest music festival) goes to the eurovision for italy and I don't know if the Nanowar want to partecipate (Sarebbe un gran Sanremo ma mi sa che non lo vedremo mai), they may use the "Scappatoia of San Marino" like Achille Lauro but i am going to far down the rabbit hole for a non-Italian comment section 7:02 He is reading Verses from the Divina Commedia (Dante Alighieri's masterpiece), the verses speaks about Dante meeting Pluto in IV circle of Hell, Pape Satan Aleppe is what Pluto said and it's an invocation for Lucifer

4:55 They actually ran in the San Marino selection for Eurovision last year. Sadly the Sanmarinesi failed to grasp their potential. P.S. NoS just dropped a new bomb(shell): Pasadena 1994. If you react to that live I hope I won't miss it.

Yikes, not gonna get that one out of my head for the next week... OMG, that was fun! They're so good at this.
Can't wait to hear the rest of the stuff on this album. 2 home runs from it so far.
I am still waiting for a reaction to "Armpits of Immortals"
8:07 ScatTank According with the majority of the translations, "Pape Satan Aleppe" (it is the single expression of the Divine Comedy with the higher number of different interpretations) said by Pluto in 4th ring of Hell could mean "Satan king of Hell what do I have to witness!". This is also the title of the last book of Umberto Eco, author of The Name of the Rose. The assay subtitles is "Chronicles of a liquid society". It speaks about the crisis of ideologies and italian politics, the widespread unbridled individualism, and much more. The vision of the author seems amplified in today Italy, especially during the infamous Sanremo festival, the cringiest "music" show that a human could conceive. This year has reach in the opinion of many (including my ancient mother) the peak of degeneracy. My interpretation is that the monsters that populate the Disco Metal represent singers and entertainers who populate Sanremo. In the comment section of Disco Metal they declare this is their answer to the festival which is indirectly reaponsible to not allow them to go on Euro-vision, because sh*tt* italian regulations admit to the european festival only the winners of Sanremo... and metal bands are not allowed of course. Btw Even Nanowar pop music is way superior to the average Sanremo festival song.
They never made to Eurovision because the Italian Eurovision entry for it is the winner of another competition called Festival di Sanremo and whould be had for them to win the contest or even enter it. But would be absolutely awesome seeing them at the Eurovision. I'm waiting for March 3rd to see if Lord of the lost will win the German selection fo the Eurovision.

German entry is going to be another crap pop song people will forget about before the music starts. Selection method in Germany is basically a bunch of old businessmen with no clue about music and the collective humour of two pounds of very dead pigeons. Italian here ready to explain some references, I hope that being this late won't get this comment buried and unseen: -Eurovision: we could easily win with Nanowar, I dream but we'll never see them on stage, because Italian selections is basically sending whoever wins Sanremo festival, which not only is too different from their style and genre but followed and judged by people who will never make them win. Biancodolce was, in fact, a parody of the stereotype Sanremo-winner (or Sanremo-hit in general) -"c'è da spostare una bara": inside a disco you may hear "there's a car to move" or something like that, when someone parked badly/in the middle of where they shouldn't have. "è un diesel" means "it's a diesel" and "la vogliamo LA sposrarLA o no?" is a really broken italian for "do one wants to move it or not???" -The Scatman reference. This will be long but be prepared because there's just SO much: is also a cinema reference: we have REALLY trash movies which are like a bad cult (you know the ones that everybody knows, everybody knows are bad and are so bad nobody actually watches them). They're called cinepanettoni, they come out around Christmas and basically feature a group of people doing christmas holidays in places like India or equally tropical and often classic touristy places, trash and fairly sexist comedy style based on the classic comedy of misunderstanding, childish sex jokes and showing boobs. Now, scatman is a recurring theme and is used on basically all the trailers. THAT'S NOT ALL: one of the main actors is Christian De Sica. He's the son of the famous and actually good actor Vittorio De Sica, kind of like Hitchcook's son ended up directing and acting in American Pie, to give an idea of the seriousness of the two. We're not talking about his father, but about his mother's step-brother: HE'S THE FUCKING ASSASSIN OF LEV TROTSKY! Yes, THAT Trotsky. And this fact is mentioned into Chupacabra Cadabra too, because it's so absurd it can't be slept on.
The outfit Mr. Baffo is wearing is from the movie Bram Stroker's Dracula. It was what Gary Oldman wore.
First time hearing this and immediately got another famous Italian band stuck in my brain now...Eiffel 65. Have to give it 9.5, da ba dee da ba dive :)
it's like everything great about 90s club music and METAL
Definitely new fav metal not metal song… so good ❤
A suggestion for you: I'd love to see (and hear) your reaction to the band Gnome - the track Wenceslas would be a good place to start (but so much other good stuff from them out there..)
From 'Everybody' to Thriller my brain has recieved so much references that I couldn't know where to start... 🤣 I love these guys.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Has anybody found a reference to "Omen III" (Magic Affair)? This would also be a perfect fit for this song... :-)
They are touring the US opening for Dragonforce and Amaranthe, checking them out next week!
The pepe satan aleppe is from Dante Alighieri (inferno chant VII) and the back vocal "c'è da spostare una bara" is a reference to another italian Song made by the comedian Francesco Salvi called "c'è da spostare una macchina"
*PAPE SATAN PAPE SATAN ALEPPE*
TANK YOU NEED TO REALLY check the easter eggs and facts on this song its actually a master piece!!
@TankTheTech Thanks for letting me know Powerwolf is on tour; I just bought a pit ticket to see them on March 25th at the Wiltern. That should be a great show.
The Italian part is probably a reference to Gabry Ponte, who used to place some poetry in his songs, like "La danza delle streghe" "A Silvia" or "Geordie".
Cool something to put between Turbolover and Maniac on the mix tape. Pre show music by Bill McClintock.
The part that is in italian is a quote from the Divine comedy
Klaatu Barada Nikto is known as "the most famous alien sentence" from the movie "The Day the Earth Stood Still"
From what remember from my copy of the annotated Inferno, the “Pape Satan Aleppi” bit was nonsense gibberish even in the 1300’s, Dante had a random demon babbling it.
That's such a fun song, and for some reason I really want to be one of those dancing zombies 🧟♀️
On the references that are in the last part of the song - the italian verses are from a 1200 poem called "divina commedia" from "Dante Alighieri" a medieval italian literature masterpiece, and that specific part is from a section of the poem that is known as "inferno" which means hell. More preciselt "Canto VII" of the Inferno (section seven). Pape satan pape Satan aleppe: well, there is an entire encyclopedia article only on these few words, and it'd be too long to explain it all in a youtube comment, but for those who are willing to dig deeper into one of the "misteries" of ancient italian literature, there you go :) Then there is a small reference to an italian trash song from 1988: kzread.info/dash/bejne/p4ya19pphtfafto.html the original title is "c'è da spostare una macchina" (there is a car to be moved), and it was referenced with "c'è da spostare una bara" (there is a coffin to be moved) and then scatman, but this last one was fairly easy :)
Translation in English «Oh Satan, oh Satan, god!», began (to shout) Pluto in a hoarse (hen) voice: and that thoughtful sage, whom he understood all (he knew), he said to comfort me: "Do not be an impediment to you (Do not harm you) your fear; for, however much power he has, he will not prevent us from descending this craggy crag.' sorry in advance for the bad translation; "chioccia" in current Italian langiage is "hen" in English; in old vulgar Italian (the one Dante uses for The Divine Comedy) means hoarse.
