I figured the best location to watch the total solar eclipse was going to require a trip north & west. I made my way to the Village of Northville where I picked up Route 30 north. This section of the highway is known as the Adirondack Trail. It takes you north towards, Hope, Wells, Speculator, Tupper Lake & Lake Placid. I had no specific location in mind but once I got into the village of Speculator, I saw a large amount of people waiting for the eclipse to begin and decided to watch there. I was a couple of hours early and decided to climb the nearby Makomis fire tower. The stairs are a bit narrow, but I made the trek and was rewarded with awesome views of the area! Back down and to my jeep, I sat and waited for the eclipse to begin. Further north towards Tupper Lake the sky was obviously as dark as night. Even where we were, street lights and business lights came on automatically. It was a sight to behold. Although we experienced a partial eclipse in 2017, a total eclipse hasn't occurred in the Adirondack Mountains in over 700 years.
