    I have a 2013 Tiguan. Im always stunned by ratings that give higher grades to cost and interior cargo volume of sub compact and compact SUVS that have weak engines (Toyota RAV4, Honda Civic, Nissan Rogue, Mazda C5 etc). The 2012-2019 Tiguan and Tiguan limited are a VW Golf GTI on stilts with a different body). If you just have to have 4x4 go get a Crosstrek or pony up for VW 4 Motion.

    We have a VW rabbit and it has been flawless...Test drove several small cars and it had the nicest interior, most comfortable seats, quieter by a large margin over everything else, and had a more solid feel.... As far as reliability goes VW has some models that are oustanding and others that aren't qute as good just like every manufacturer....What VW does have is QUALITY....Quality doesn't always translate into reliability, but it does add to the drivers experience in a good way....

    I have a Tiguan and just love it. I have not any issue. I had a RAV4 and had a few issues, before swithing to Tiguan. Toyota is not what used to be in terms of being reliable and VW has made real progress. On the other hand Toyota is boring and VW is fun. Comparing Tiguan to RAV4 or Forester, or CR-V (which is basically a female car), Tiguan is much better.

    I've spent MANY hours reviewing all current CUVs and this is by far the best option for a new 2012 vehicle. Especially if leasing, the 36 month care free maintenance is hard to beat in this class. I am actually considering applying to the VW dealership where we just bought our car, lol.

    I bought a '23 Tiguan. I don't care about acceleration, because I'm usually hauling band equipment (or camping equipment). I can get out of a tight spot if needed, that's enough.

    @@Sebbe40 yeah still have our 2011 sport pack. Solves the problems they described with the suspension here, routine oil changes, a transmission oil change, and one high pressure fuel pump which was only 200 bucks and 20 minutes a in the driveway. Not bad for 10 years of ownership. The most expensive maintence has just been wear items like the tires and brake pads and rotor.

    Here's an interesting note about MOTORWEEK. The PBS station here in Columbus, OH that carries MOTORWEEK, always drops this program while fundraising, but never their quilting shows, self improvement or home improvement, no it's always MOTORWEEK that is put on the shelf, so I miss episodes of this show that I have been watching since it first aired back in 1981...WOSU does this every time.

    I can attest to VW's old unreliable characteristics. I bought a used '00 Passat 5M V6, and it spent more time in the shop than on the road. It's actually still sitting in my garage. That's what caused me to not even consider VW ever again. However, on our way to a Ford dealership, we HAPPENED to stop into a VW dealer, and we JUST bought a 2012 SportWagen. I am now considering trading my 04 WRX for either a Tiguan or a TDI SportWagen. Now I feel it's almost stupid not to drive a new VW in 2012.

  • @WoZIMoo

    Huh? They've been using the 2.0T for years now and it's a well proven engine. And a more advanced suspension won't necessarily cost you more if its solid and fact is that VW makes some very solid suspension/steering components. Apart from that I don't really see anything high tech in this car for 2012 standards..

    I am sick and tired of people who bad mouth cars due to their origin such as Kia and Hyundai. When VW Jetta was getting the worst reliability records people were bad mouthing Kia and Hyundai (This was in the year 2004) being unreliable. That is why European cars no matter how many people buy them will never be reliable in the US because their success is abt bad mouthing competition not building reliable cars.

    VW is making the same mistake again, putting high tech in whats supposed to be peoples car, they should leave that to audi which is their more expensive brand. Multilink suspensions, turbo engines,, etc all that stuff is great untill you have to service it. In some way its acting just like GM did, having all those different brands selling the the same car.

    Then you haven't met a Kia owner yet, either. However I have seen many European car owners (including my self being a former BMW owner) who got rid of their cars once they sat in a Japanese or Korean or American cars. And, I met many car owners who drive European cars and they only drive them because they already bought them. They like their cars but the things that come with them such as High maintenance and temperamental nature makes them easily define their cars as "a pain in the ass."

    Fussinated I had a 2009 Passat which made my mom's brand new 2013 CR-V look and feel like a Fisher Price toy. No comparison in quality. A VW, or European car in general, will generally be higher quality. It embarrassed our old Ford f150 even more. My Passat felt tighter, was quieter, and has been pretty reliable so far.

    I have to admit that I also think that Tiguan is the most appealing design esthtically. However, buying one is similar to marry a woman just because of her looks. So the way you described on the long this car most likely make your life miserable on the long run like a hot chick, but you prefer to have one. Well, not everyone thinks that way. CRV, RAV4 is more preferable for the ase of mind. However you forgot one brand; Subaru; A Forester is a lot better CUV than this one and others.

    I like how recalls are considered some kind of testament to reliability. Manufacturers that get touted as being the most reliable issue recalls all the time. The fact that VW actually takes the initiative to issue recalls before they become controversies speaks volumes, as opposed to the new industry standard where certain manufacturers try to save a nickel by sweeping problems under the carpet until a bunch of people end up dead.

  • @Fussinated

    @Fussinated

    9 жыл бұрын

    anamnesis And all of the things is true only when it comes to European cars when you Euro car fans want to bash Japanese and American brands. When it comes to European brands suddenly this recall issue becomes an irrelevant matter on built quality. Yet, another demonstration of a double standarded behavior by Europeans, or Euro fans. Now, when you see people saying things about Toyota recalls you should have said the same thing. Instead you assumed that your favorite Euro brands were perfect. So, now you suddenly become the fair fairy huh? LOL! sorry 'mate' you had at least a decade to prove yourself as sincere on such remarks yet you blew it. No matter how hard you try you are nothing but a chauvinist European car fan bigot. :).

  • @Anamnesis

    @Anamnesis

    9 жыл бұрын

    Fussinated My point was that German manufacturers don't try to sweep recalls under the carpet, which is not a discussion of their build quality. Just because German cars cost more doesn't mean they're perfect, or even above average in reliability. There is not a single car, ever, that hasn't had some sort of recall. The distinction is in how a manufacturer chooses to handle their recalls. But keep up with your sarcasm, it really suits you.

  • @Fussinated

    @Fussinated

    9 жыл бұрын

    anamnesis "My point was that German manufacturers don't try to sweep recalls under the carpet" Of course, they do. That's why you didn't hear them before like the one I copy pasted above. "which is not a discussion of their build quality" If we are to discuss about work ethics, I can copy paste how Australian, and Asian consumers (mainly India) are neglected to be taken care of on those recalls as well ( The faulty DSG which caused many owners to get stuck in the middle of nowhere) "Just because German cars cost more doesn't mean they're perfect, or even above average in reliability" They are junks due to low production ethics of Europeans period "There is not a single car, ever, that hasn't had some sort of recall" And it took how long to realize this? "The distinction is in how a manufacturer chooses to handle their recalls" There is no such criterion of distinction. However, if it makes you feel happy why don't you consider European car manufacturers ill conduct in the world market which you haven't heard before. Here is an example; "Volkswagen has issued a recall for almost 4 Lakh cars in China (3,84,181 to be precise) fitted with its faulty DSG transmission. VW will be replacing components in affected gearboxes at no cost to the customer. The decision came after a Chinese Government department completed a yearlong investigation of automobiles that were made between December 2008 and February 2013, before ordering the recall. Earlier last year, VW extended the warranty on its DQ200 dual-clutch transmission to 10 years / 1,60,000 kms for Chinese customers. This came on the back of complaints from car owners that vehicles fitted with the DQ200 gearbox suffered from issues related to 'abnormal noise levels, excessive shift shock and flashing gear indicators that resulted in emergency mode being activated and the driver being unable to shift into gear.' There are plenty of reports on our forum of Indian car owners who were stranded by the roadside because of a faulty DSG. Unfortunately, neither the VW group nor Skoda (whose Superb is severely affected by this problem) have announced a similar recall in India. Our country doesn't even have a watchdog like the one present in China that ordered the recall" "But keep up with your sarcasm, it really suits you" No, no, you keep up with your double standarded prejudice that everyone here posts say things without being able to support their claims. You do that, so that I can prove myself with quotes, as such, what an unethical, lowlife, bigoted, double standarded, idiots you Europeans and Euro lovers are, yet don't hesitate to call others as 'fan boys.' Even after this will you admit that you are one ignorant Euro loving fuck ....,. I doubt that because your ethical make up does not have the proper quality for that.
