    I am astonished and delighted that a video of this caliber exists about a topic so specific to my needs. Really a great vid, James! I don't always luck out in that regard. I have an '06 1700 which I assume is pretty much the same, or enough so that I'm not going to get lost now that I have seen this. I especially loved the attention to detail, the asides about "watch out for the spring so it doesn't shoot across the room" and the warning about the orientation to replace the nozzle so it aligns with the inner pin. This is pure gold that, if one doesn't know about ahead of time, can result in an otherwise "simple" equipment dismantling ending up with a piece of useless garbage for the recycling bin, if the advice is not heeded. Thanks so much for this. I was glued. It's time to get out in my garage and start wrenching.

I have not take the bike apart to look at the entire length of the cable. It appears the same on the handle and wear the collar is broken, but I cannot see where it enters the carburetor to see if the two cables are the same. MY Pilot Mixture Screw seems to be blanked-off with a brass disc with a tiny hole in the centre of it. At 8:57 your video shows you unscrewing the PMS. Where your screwdriver tip is mine has this brass disc. I'm tempted to just leave it alone, or is there a way to remove the disc to get to whatever might be underneath it? Any help appreciated. cheers and thanks for the great video.

    The factory installs a brass plug over the PMS screw. You will need to drill a small hole not very deep just so you can insert a screw into the plug to pull it out.

    First you need to attach a hose to the carb bowl drain tube and drain the carb, Retighten the drain screw and turn your key on and check to see if the fuel pump fills the carb. If it doesn't then check the screen that is inside the fuel tube , It could be plugged.

    Well first off, did you remove the carburetor manifold from the heads? It sounds like you have an air leak somewhere. also make sure the manifold tube is blocked off or it will cause the bike to need the choke on to run at idle.

    Interesting, Frank. The reason I stumbled onto James' great vid is because I have the same issue. I too wonder where the manifold tube is. On a side note, I wonder why a tube would be made that is required to be blocked off. I'm more a computer guy than a weekend mechanic, but I dig diving in to figure this stuff out. I just don't have a lot of background to know what the heck I'm doing. Did you discover where the tube was, and did somehow blocking it solve your problem?

    Im not sure what type of K&N filter you're referring too. If it's one that goes inside the stock air box it should be bolting in. if it's a K&N Filter that clamps to the carb, you'll need to design a bracket for it so you can bolt it to the bike. The squeak you're hearing could be a few things. Your belt is either too tight or too loose, order yourself a belt tensioning gauge www.ebay.com/itm/like/151476696652?lpid=82&chn=ps&ul_noapp=true Also make sure the belt is tracking in the center of the rear pulley. Jack up the rear of the bike and spin the rear wheel to check, use the adjusters to center the belt.

    At 9:51 you are removing an air jet that is solid. When I removed each of my jets, I put them in a bag. I did not have any solid jets. I had been riding to work with no issues. Went about a year of not riding. Tried to start bike one day and it would only turn over. I figured since it had been sitting I needed to clean the carb. Cleaned and replaced what jets came with the kit I had, but it's still just turning over. If i place my hand over the intake it will start up and burn off whatever gas it sucks in and then dies. I'm stuck.

  • @Jadams1911

    @Jadams1911

    4 жыл бұрын

    Placing your hand over the intake reduces the amount of air so it only needs a small amount of fuel to run. You have a fuel issue. You need to clean the entire fuel system since the bike sat so long. I would start at the tank. Drain all old fuel and make sure the petcock filter is clean. Replace with fresh fuel. Now before you attach the fuel line to the carb run a long hose from the fuel pump into a container and turn the key and run fresh fuel through the fuel pump to clean out any old fuel. Reattach the fuel line to the carb and start the bike. If you have cleaned the carb properly the bike should run.

  • @MrDunnyglenn

    @MrDunnyglenn

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@Jadams1911 I should have put all that information on there too. The tank has been cleaned. Filters on the petcock replaced. Currently I have a container with a hose connected to the carb with fuel running to it. I'm going to buy another jet kit and redo the carb. I know for a fact I didn't take off any jets that were solid. Carbs are my nemesis. I'm good with the electrical systems. Thanks for the reply sir.

    First turn the PMS screw in and seat it lightly, then back it out 2 1/2 turns. Now get the bike at operating temp. Now start adjusting the idle screw, make sure the bike idles around 900 rpms. anything lower then that doesn't produce the correct oil pressure.

    I usually check mine with the carb removed. You need to attach a clear hose to the bowl drain tube, attach the gas hose to a fuel supply jug, next hold the carb straight. lift the clear tube up and hold it above the mating surface where the float bowl attaches to the carb, Turn the fuel supply on, Now loosen the drain screw, The fuel should rise up to and be even to where the mating surface of the float bowl is.
