Road King Windsheild Buffeting Solutions

Фильм және анимация

My '05 RK Custom had really bad buffeting with the factory windshield on. It was to the point that I didnt use it. But adding a LRS shield - Goldwing air vent - and some DK Customs Cooling/Deflector wings and 90+% of the buffeting is gone. Now the shield is almost always on!

Nice video and unique to the subject of wind buffeting on a Road King. I just added H-D fork deflectors ( fangs) and there was an immediate and noticeable improvement (maybe 50-70%). I then added the triple tree baffle. Not sure if it helped, or hurt. The buffeting is still much better than before. Thanks for the ideas.

I added lowers to my vstar - exact same thing they seemed to make a big difference. Not sure if adding this vent would help I would want to see, but I'm reluctant to drill into my shield.

I have been fight with buffeting on my 2020 heritage, I also got a long ride windshield helps a little, i mounted fork wind deflectors helps a little, still have buffeting, best fix i have found is riding without windshield, but that sucks in the colder weather

Try the vent. It makes the biggest difference of all of those mods.

Solution: Full faced helmet. Installed lower fairings (2006 Road King), windhsheild from Memphis Shades (drop top)(lowered to 16"), installed a vent. No buffetting at 70 mph and can ride all day and not get a headach.

Working on this issue with my v-star. Have lowers coming in Jan that folks have said help a lot - we'll see. I am amazed how many bikes have buffeting problems - especially cruisers that are designed for highway / longer riding it's very fatiguing to have your head bobbing around constantly.

Thanks for the good info, I'll give it a shot. I've tried everything else except the under-fork deflector but I have to figure out how to do that with a springer.

You may not need the fork deflectors at all. I've ridden with a full face with this and there is virtually no wind buffeting. There is absolutely zero with a 1/2 and about the same with a 3/4. Cheers.

The buffering is comming up from your leg area .put your hand under chin when you ride, put fork deflectors on .it stops it. It's the wind getting in side your helmet. That's why it's worse with a full face.

It's not bad at all now even with a full face. I think the full face might actually be better than my 3/4. And no fangs. I know those work but I'm not crazy about them. Cheers.

My road king police came with a very tall windshield great for wind, horrible for visibility, replaced with klockwerks good most of the time buffeting, occurs between 70 and 80, of course depending on the wind direction, speed etc, coastal air tends to be very choppy, tail wind vs head wind, doing a group ride forced me out of my comfort zone I was surprised to find 80/ 85 very clean quiet air.

It would be interesting to use a whole saw and play around a bit if somebody has decided to move away from their oem windshield anyway. Fork fangs due the job for me very well as far as buffeting goes but your solution is less likely to make overheating worse (107 M8) or hurt your gas mileage.

I considered this mod to the windshield but after adding cheap fork fangs from Amazon the problem was solved. I don’t think they make a big difference to engine cooling especially on an M8 with the oil cooler down below. If fangs caused any problems with cooling then lowers would be much worse.

They are stock. This is the Road King Kustom from 2005 which had the beach bars stock. They are very comfy in my opinion and work perfectly with the backrest. I never take it off.

Is the gold wing vent hole fit exactly the curve of the Roadking windshield. Or it still need to do modification on the gold wing vent.

  • @markJaggi

    @markJaggi

    3 жыл бұрын

It is the exact same curvature so it fit perfectly after cutting the hole. I highly recommend it. If you're nervous about doing it yourself take it to a glass shop with the template and they'll cut it for you. It wasn't that hard though. Masking tape, jigsaw and a template and I had it done in less than a hour total. Cheers.

Well, I tried this and it still didn't fix things for me. I still have just as horrible of a vortex coming up from the tail of the tank. It then whirlwinds at my chest making my shirt flap to the extent that, in the past, I've gotten a friction burn after about an hour of riding

So you might need to consider either a bat wing or fangs or both. Also make sure you have the right height for the shield. Should be about even between the nose and mouth. I know how much it sucks to have this happen....best of luck!! It took me a year to work it out for me.

  • @smrtrbl86

@@markJaggi yep. Windshield is between my lips and nose. I see over it not through it. The wind goes over thr top of my helmet and my passenger as well. But what in getting is possibly gonna take the fangs. And I'm dreading that for some reason. I guess the look isn't what I'm after the batwing is definitely not my style. I'm not a bagger fan myself.

I haven't tried fangs because they reduce air cooling to the motor which I don't like the idea of on hot summer days and I'm not crazy for the looks. I have heard they really do help though. But I can say after wearing my full face on some cold days with this setup there is virtually no buffeting!! :) Cheers.
