@WaxandTartans the best thing to do with the RM leather soled boots is before wearing them get a bootmaker/repairer to put a TOPI 1/2 sole on top of the leather... it is a very thin "rubber" compound... then you only have to replace the TOPI rather than the complete sole as they wear... and is soooooo much cheaper to do! I do this to all of my 6 RM's!

RM Williams are a beast of a boot! I also have pairs of beautiful Chelsea’s made by Crockett and Jones which are twice the price of RM Williams but the pull tabs already broke on them! You can pull as hard as you like on the RM’s…good luck breaking their tabs!

Just got a pair of the black craftsman’s with the yellow tag. If anyone is ever in Adelaide you should look out to see if you happen to be there during a sale. They have these sales down at the Showgrounds in a big warehouse and they sell seconds. My pair had some discolouration on the sole but they were only 199aud. Absolute bargain

Just picked up my first pair of RM Williams Yearling Comfort Craftsman Chelsea boots in Dark Tan and rubber sole - cost $620 from the RM Williams store in Brisbane. The tags are the same colour as the shoe leather. I had the option of the Kangaroo leather version however have been told the yearling leather is thicker and doesn't show the fibres of the leather as much. Next pair will be Dark Tan in the Kangaroo and then the Burnished leather version which costs around $840.

You can't go wrong with either. I've got both the yearling in dark tan and the kangaroo in tanbark. Beautiful graining on the kangaroo, if that's your thing. Wear them everyday for work. $395 for each as seconds at the Adelaide outlet store. If you go to an outlet, you might be able to save a bit for those unusual styles if seconds are acceptable

I think your black pair is the RMW ‘Macquarie’ with the slightly more rounded toe. If you want a lighter RMW Craftsman boot with a super strong leather get them with the kangaroo leather. I have exactly the same size and width as you and the blacks (with black/white tag) and chestnut but both in the Dynamic Flex model. Like you had them some time but not experienced the sole wear. I’m the other way around…prefer the black and mine have been mirror shined. They are a fantastic boot and I will look at purchasing the Signature boot in tan and may look at a kangaroo leather upper pair myself. I always use the cedar shoe trees in my boots and shoes as well. Good vlog…Cheers and thank you.

I got a pair a few months ago. They are the best fitting boot I have and I own around 10/12 pairs of shoes. However I have to point out that the leather is soft and does not seem sturdy/durable at all Vs my other full grain leathers. I have marked and scuffed them with gentle knocks and it has sort of split the leather as cream polish isn't taking them out, quite a bummer. I do love them but I feel the whole hardwearing-boots for life- made to be worn thing is a big marketing scheme.

  • @WaxandTartans

@@WaxandTartans yeah Im a shoe freak so I have taken care of them really well. And I have 6 pairs of boots like Carmina, TLB, Crockett and Jones and Meermins to compare the leather. I have kicked stuff with all of the rest and never seen the leather split like it did on my RMs so I guess I'm either unlucky or they have been cutting down on the quality...reading in forums I believe it's the latter.

Meermin boots are made in China vs RMWs are made in Australia. Yearling is a type of leather that will crease, while shell cordovan is a type of muscle that won't crease. Only the French veal calf leather from RMW can get less creasing, but you have to MTO or invest in their Signature range.
