Rivian R1T is an OK Truck, but it's too Expensive for what you get. Rivian delivery are NON EXISTENT even though production has begun. the Rivian truck only has a SHORT bed, 4 1/2 foot is useless, and has less than 3500 lb PAYLOAD, and 14,000 TOWING. it's also too SLOW, as the CYBERTRUCK beats it at 2.1 @ 160 mph. and CT only costs $39,000.

SAM - Rivian is not NEW, they are over a DECADE old, ana still have not delivered any Trucks. the Rivian design is 10 years old, and is OUTDATED. It's underpowered, with it's 4 motors, is LESS POWER, than the TESLA Cybertruck with PLAID 3 motor system that has 0 - 60 in 2.1 second, 3500 payload, and 14,000 lb TOWING.

@@markplott4820 this is a small truck, with a short bed. Not useless. The design looks good, unlike the cyber truck. Tons of storage and considering it's target audience is adventurers, I imagine they'll sell fine. When I'm buying a truck, I'm not looking for an drag vehicle. I don't care this isn't as fast. It's a great vehicle for light offroading and overlanding. The cyber truck is a high speed land boat

@@HuevosAzules - not a Small Truck, between the size of a Fud Ranger and a Titan . its got a LESS Utilitarian Short bed, that the AUTO cover Does NOT seem to work. R1T has less PAYLOAD than CT @ 3500 lbs and it cant TOW 14,000 lbs. R1T has less than 100 sq ft of Storage. R1T is too HEAVY and already has a BIG battery. NONE to Efficient , WORST Efficiency RATING among EV. see - InsideEV's Charts.

EA only has 500 FAST chargers, and many don't even work. TESLA has 25,000 250 kwh chargers and adding more every day.

Hope we get cheaper EVs. The rivian is headed in the right direction, but pricing is a big no-no and most people don't need the extra bells and whistles that the truck comes with.

This truck is so, so sick.

The response time on the control panel is more than just refresh rate, the CPU has to respond also. This an issue with all cars, not just EVs. I was more impressed with the F-150 lightning but this truck looks cooler and might be easier to get in and out of in a tight parking space or garage. They really don't make garages for full size pickups.

This thing looks great to me. Newer pickup trucks are mostly hideous (I think the Tacoma looks good). Also I love all the exterior features with the roof rack, the retractable cover and that pass through storage. I think I would prefer more analogue feature instead of a huge touch screen. It’s nice being able to make adjustments by touch and not actually needing to look at the buttons

Rivian isn’t competition for tesla. Rivian is the result of tesla being so popular. Being a tesla fan it still swooped me off my feet. The interior is way better, and tesla should take some notes. But if they become popular it will take the load off tesla. And the EV market can thrive now that new companies are up and coming. Tesla still has atleast 2-3 years to still sqeeze it’s monopoly over EV market.

3:48 I just regret that they’re trying to make their own network and not just trying to build their network with agreement with Tesla, so Tesla could charge in their station and Rivian could charge in Tesla’s stations. At this point, it would make more sense to have a standardized network with the same connectors, and then maybe everyone can use them, regardless the company behind it. When we stop at a gas station, we don’t have to use different hose and adapters, etc… regardless the company behind the gas station.

Rivian's network is following the CCS standard, just like every new EV in production except Tesla. They're just locking it down to Rivian's initially (like for QoS for Rivian owners in the near term).

I like Tesla, as far as cool tech thigns tho, but they are the difference here. Rivian is using a form of the largely standard charging connectors. Tesla's is more "proprietary"

I agree 100%. We don't need dozens of different kinds of chargers everywhere. Imagine the silliness of having, say, 25 kinds of gasoline, each for a different brand of vehicle. Competition has to interface with cooperation somewhere, otherwise it turns into chaos.

Thanks for the review, but I think you have gone over what is mostly already out there. Note to future reviewers please: Dive into the infotainment system re phone connections, music availability, USB, battery readouts and usage, adaptive cruise, lane centering. What are the headlights like at night, are they matrix or adaptive. Can winches and driving lights be fitted.

Great video and nice truck. I saw this vehicle on Ewan McGregor motorcycle tour as a chase vehicle so seems very durable and premium, but as a value it seems the Ford F-150 Lightning is a better value for normal people.

I've thought about 120Hz screen on the new Teslas and cars in general, it's kinda weird that it's missing on the similarly PS5 speced model s plaid. What should come with it is high touch sampling rate as well, as it's as important for smoothness.

Love it, my only minor complaint is that theres no physical climate controls.

Refresh rates have nothing to do with response on the user experience. This would be related cpu, overhead memory, and capacitive touch quality etc. Thanks for the review. Interesting truck.

The charging door is never going to open when it s -35 c here in Quebec . Otherwise, solid little truck. It s going to cost around 100k CAN. We ll see more Ford Lightnings in my opinion.

Did you try any of the autopilot features? So curious how it compares to Tesla. Also when you were using the UI did you see any dog mode callouts?

I wish the gear tunnel was an option ..... I just don't have anything I would want to put in there and would rather have that space in the cabin or bed.

Motor Trend did a several series review where they drove it across the Country offroad. Rivian also had several people out to Colorado for an offroad drive.

@@heydanking motortrend didn't report issues with it them. They were extremely impressed by the truck. The only sensors you'd generally use offroad are the cameras, similar to other trucks and SUVs. The new Hummer does have little washers for the cameras on it though.

More responsive touchscreen, yes like you said, for 77k it should be more responsive. BUT, no refresh rate won't do anything to solve that. 60hz for the display, 120hz for touch polling rate is pleeeeeeeenty. What you need is software fine tuning.
