I feel like I'm watching you become closer and closer to Indigeneity - as a Black woman and just as a human who's living closer to the land and animals. I admire your growth because it helps ground me when I feel stressed about living in this country. I often feel like I need to move abroad to learn these skills but the truth is you can do it wherever you are in the world. Watching you come into single mamahood, truly provide for your family and meet life with such strength is really important to me as a Black femme person. This video was hard to watch but I also don't think I'll see many ceremonies like this online or in my day-to-day life, so for that I'm grateful you decided to share it. Thank you as always

I have such a hard time watching animals lives being taken, but this was something I made myself watch as one day I hope to live off my own land and provide for my family and I know this will be a part of that process. The respect and reverence you show for death brought tears to my eyes. I used to sing the song Akaal and just chant so loudly and now I understand why. My father had passed and I connected to that song without even realizing the meaning behind it. So special. Thank you for this.

This hurt to watch. I couldn't get over the suffering this rooster had to go through. Being hung upside down, slitting its throat and letting him bleed out. A slow painful death. I guess I can't understand how you can love a life so much and then kill it. I understand that our ancestors did this because they had to, but I don't believe that we have to carry that on when its not a necessity or need for our own survival. We are abundant with plants and growing our own gardens full of foods that will nourish us and help us live a long healthy life. I do appreciate the video to educate and show people the honorable way to end life, but I still cannnot get over the suffering this animal had to go through. This was very sad.

Seeing this took me back to my childhood. I grew up on a free range farm and chicken harvesting time was the most sacred time of the season. I spent many early mornings harvesting chickens with my mom in our pj’s and curlers. This is a beautiful gift to pass down to your sweet girl.

This is the most information most of us will ever get about where our food comes from. I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who recites the ho'oponopono prayer often. This prayer has brought me through some dark times.

@Choochoo choo that’s a cultural question. in this society we see cats and dogs as extensions of family. ask someone who comes from a place where dog is a delicacy for the answer you’re looking for so bad.

I felt sooo many emotions as I watched this. I’ve been a supporter and follower for a while now! Not sure how I stumbled upon you back then but you’ve always kept my attention. I feel like you’re talking directly to me. I needed a you in my life! So thank you 🙏🏾 also My granny called me near the end of this video at the same time that she crossed my mind , (she’s the only woman close to me that will cut up a whole chicken) that’s as close as I get to this ! I’m very much connected to my energy and this was needed! Can’t wait to live a life in homestead. Can’t thank you enough for sharing what the most high wants you to share !

this made me cry so much.. ! I can see the love you have and the beautiful life you gave him. Its crazy how I can cry over this and then think about all the other animal products I eat (well mostly fish) but same thing. Modern humans are so disconnected from the natural cycles of life and its imperative we at least deeply understand our impacts even if we don't all personally harvest our food. I honor you for sharing in this process. Thank you for reconnecting us and showing some reality. Bless Yellow foots soul AKKAAL!!

This video brought tears to my eyes! I usually cannot stand the sight of blood or wounds because of past experiences, but as another follower commented, I made myself watch because I aspire to that lifestyle too. And it was unexpectedly soothing, because one can feel the deep emotional connection you have with the act of taking the animal's life. It puts everything in perspective and in its right place. Truly eye-opening! Thank you for sharing this intimate moment.

I don’t ever feel called to comment on KZread videos but wow. This video brought me to tears. I could feel how hard this was for you and how much you loved yellowfoot. Beautiful video, beautiful way to honor and end the life of an animal. You have been one of my greatest teachers even tho there are times when I don’t agree with you. Thank you.

This was sad to me, yet also beautiful bc of the way you honored Yellowfoot's body. You are right, it's easy to go through a chickfila drivethru and not have to think about how that chicken ended up between two slices of bread. It goes without saying that we know those chickens were not honored in the sacred way. Great content, V. You're inspiring me more & more to go the homestead route.
