Agree. My brothers played Deep Purple in our house when i was a small kid and I remember when the first Rainbow album came. And Rising set my room on fire, at least that what was the lady in the neighburing house said to my mother in the kitchen below when she called on the phone and said: "Mathias room is on fire!!" Whell, that fire has not faded yet. Stargazer is one of the best rock songs ever.

Mr Swordsman I hold Ritchie up among the top. He put together some great bands. And right around when I was 16 Deep Purple were on their Perfect Strangers Tour. I did some work for a neighbor and she knew I wanted to go. So she ended up waiting in line with me in the cold Cleveland weather for approximately 6 hours and finally purchased 8 tickets for right around a hundred bucks. This lady was so cool that she ended up getting a ticket because she knew we needed a ride. She got us some beer. But just enough. She didn't want to clean her car out of some 16 year Olds puke. Said all that to say that Deep Purple was my first real by myself no parents concert. It was good but at 16 2 beers had me wasted lol. And I still love me some Purple at the young age of 53

Machinehead was the first heavy rock I ever heard in the basement room of my class mates big brother. We were 12 years old and completely blown away. We were in state of shock, this was the most heavy and wild music we've ever heard and as soon as it was over, we wanted to hear it again, but being the big brother he appropriately kicked us out of his room and told us to go f.. off. I was never the same again and have been a massive lover of heavy ever since.

RB is one of the goats. A true original genius and great songwriter. His work with Purple and Rainbow is legendary. His legacy and influence is massive. Now he's just chilling with the missus doing this medieval thing and even on his worst day he's way above most great guitarists.

@Itsallwrongbuttthatsallright Actually, the song Mistreated is on Rainbow Rising(1977) by Rainbow and it is from the Coverdale-Blackmore era on the Burn album(1974) by Deep Purple. So this song Soldier Of Fortune by Deep Purple that Candice sings is another tribute to the Coverdale-Blackmore era on the Stormbringer album(1975) by Deep Purple.

This was fantastic... Ritchie has such a great sense of humor ; and so many historical stories to tell! Candice your words and voice are beautiful and enchanting; but I could sit for hours upon hours listening to Ritchie's stories! Thank you for such beautiful memories and for the magic we all get to enjoy even today! Thank you Blackmore's Night for everything you have done, and continue to do! @ShadowStoriesByDarkDave Actually, since Candice Night is either Neopagan or Wiccan as she was interviewed by Green Egg(neopagan magazine), the word magic has another meaning as well in the Wiccan sense of the word and it is often spelled as magick. Candice mentioned the Wiccan Rede and the Threefold Law in the interview. Also, there is a Neopagan or Wiccan Gothic rock group from England called Inkubus Sukkubus with female singer Candia Ridley and male guitarist Tony McKormack(husband of Candia) in the same way Ritchie is married to Candice.

It's funny hearing this..... I went to see the Ian Gillan Band in 1980 (Glory Road Tour) at the New Theatre, Oxford. It was normal back then at this venue to allow fans to go into the band dressing room backstage for a chat and autographs after the concert. The rest of the band had disappeared, but Ian had had a few drinks and was holding court and was telling various stories and he told the same story of Blackmore and Coverdale having a fight. How Gillan told it was that Coverdale had gone backstage after a Rainbow concert to congratulate Blackmore on an excellent show, but Blackmore was drunk and attacked Coverdale for no reason.

Seriously, this isn't in the same postcode (zipcode) as the classic Coverdale version. Where is the pain and anguish in the voice? The sense of hopelessness? Deep Purple was Dios absolute favorite band. and when his band Elf was chosen to tour with Purple it was a dream come true for Ronnie. Him and Blackmore were very close and got along well cause they had many common interests to share besides music including history, books, medieval and rennaissance things, etc. But Dio got pissed off when Blackmore suddenly turned into popshit direction and Dio had to leave. that was what ended their relationship but I don't believe either of them hated each other. that being said, this joke he said now sounds kinda rude

Sorry to undermine the myth but I met him at the Worcester Centrum in 1991. (after a Purple show "Slaves" tour) He was standing in the lobby alone. I walked up and was very polite and asked him if he ever thought he would do an instrumental album one day and he said: "Maybe, but people to think you are showing off when you do those. "We then spoke about Arthur Brown. Later that night (after the hotel bar closed) my friend and I got to go to his Birthday party in a small conference room down the hall. Only people who were staying at the hotel were allowed to be there. He was as polite as could be. ( to everyone) I think one has to not bother him when busy or probably just be aware of how you come across. I didn't ask for autographs or anything. He struck me as quiet and old English like.

It's cruel and selfish but these sort just don't care, it's their schtick. Most other people write them off as twats and steer clear.

I think people often mistake Ritchie's dry sense of humour as him being totally serious and even miserable sometimes. Many people with a really dry sense of humour, are often the funniest. There are also people who don't like to smile because they've seen pictures of their smile (not looking so great) and are self-conscious about smiling.

Blackmore should do a record with Coverdale. Coverdale could sing in a lower register and explore his mid range / lower register blues chops. He doesnt need to kill himself every night trying to sing like a banshee. I saw him perform 12-14 years ago and he sounded good. Now the big question and the elephant in the room here is... Why does the drummer of Blackmore Night and the Rainbow reunion have one a fuckin bleach blonde Mohawk?? It bothers me immensily.

It's my understanding thru the years that Blackmore got into more fights and arguments than most musicians do. The stories I've heard over time paint Ritchie as one of the first "Assholes of Rock" due to his legendary massive ego and the shoddy way he used to treat people including fans, whom he wasn't always polite to!

  • @theant9821

I think Ritchie is autistic, I don't think he's intentionally rude or even not a nice guy. It just appears that way, I'm autistic, i see all the signs Ritchie is too. Look at interviews with him alone, then ones where candice is there too, its like 2 different people, way more talkative, relaxed and comfortable when she's there. In photos he's rarely smiling unless she's there, common with autism is a lack of facial expression. And he always insisted on having his own room to himself before going on stage, 50 years ago a band would be lucky to get their own room let alone each member. He doesn't do eye contact, he doesn't like being around lots of people, he's quite critical and doesn't bother sugar coating it, he says it as he sees it. He's blunt and to the point wether he's giving praise or criticism. He has a small group of close friends. I bet they know who he really is, and no one else. I have no doubt he's autistic.
