Didn’t even need this review to know it was gonna be good. I went back and forth on the dlc for ror2 and whether or not to even update ( givin gearbox track record could’ve been a hit or miss) but, gearbox has done good on this one. Anybody on the fence about it ror2 dlc is good on switch as well as base game. Edit: you never even mention the challenges?

For those unaware: the game is on launch sale for 15% off ($12.74) until Nov 15 on steam and Nov 24 on switch.

I'm so glad Risk of Rain is finally getting some recognition. There was a long time I had a vita and only a few games, including RoR. Can dump so much time into this. It's brutally difficult, and that's the point. You're trying to survive on a hostile alien planet. You need to master spamming off cool down. It's brutal with no meta progression. Final boss is a nightmare. But when you beat it, it's so incredibly satisfying.

there is PLENTY meta progression in new item unlocks and achievements

@@jukeboxintheflesh It's horizontal progression though, not vertical progression, you don't objectively get stronger like in Rogue Legacy or Hades.

I am a bit disappointed you didn't mention 2 major changes. 1. We have alternative skills like in RoR2. And in order to unlock them they... 2. Introduced trials and those are VERY COOL. In one I played a Castlevania-esq level with a whip and enemeis resembling Castlevania enemies. In another I was essential playing as JumpKing. In a third one I think it was like Super House of the Dead Ninjas. And those are only a few I tried.

For real, I love mini-challenge modes like this in games, and the fact that it saves your high scores makes it basically a whole other game in there.

Any word on text size? It looks SUPER small in screenshots and the game already looked pretty busy visually.

Used to play risk of rain on vita with a buddy over local wireless and it was pure enjoyment. To be young again

Picked this up the minute I saw it. I had trouble getting into Risk of Rain 2, despite trying several times. For me, with very few exceptions, 2D roguelites seem to be the best. Cannot wait to hop into this one within the next hour or two. Thanks for the review!

So glad to finally see a Switch review on this game. Thank you so much for this amazing review and I’m so glad the game performs and looks extremely well, that was really my biggest concern for the Switch version was performance. Love this channel, but weirdly enough I love it for picking up games on the Steam Deck! Going through your channel and finding all of these great indie games that I can just grab from the store is so handy, especially with so many of them being smaller titles that I may not have heard of otherwise. Thanks for the great content! And keep it up with the reviews of smaller games like this, I find that there really aren’t a ton of others reviewing them.

ROR2 also got a big code overhaul on Switch and the big pc DLC from last year finally dropped

Gotta say... It's great to be a Switch owner in 2023!!

MAN!! So glad you brought this one up. Totally didn’t know it dropped today, and it is gloriously amazing. I’m loving it. Playing online is super smooth. And for about $12!! Heck yes. Bestiary shows only 40 slots. Are there actually more that get added to those?

As someone new to the series I wasn't expecting how difficult the game actually is but it's still a lot of fun, unlocking new items, finding logs, definitely worth a look !

Best tip for this game you'll ever get: in settings lower the zoom scale, some trials are basically impossible on default zoom

I'm happy they went back to the original art style. The second one was good but I really loved the charm and aesthetic of the first one. I usually don't play rogue likes but this series is one I really like.

Oh great thank you. 'Cos as a dad of 2 little ones I have loads of time to add this game to my Switch. I'm only playing Super Mario Wonder, Dave the Diver, Disco Elysium (again), Robocop:Rogue City, Spiderman 2, Baldur's gate 3. Oh and that small game Star Ocean The Second Story R which I just love to bits. First time in a long while I've had that magic Japanese RPG feeling like when we all played FF7 when it first came out. Just awesome and a work of art. Cheers guys 👍

I’ll probably end up getting this on pc. In risk of rain 2 there were a lot of quality of life changes I could only get through mods (auto sprint, item dropping, better pings, item descriptions, etc.). I’m assuming the first game has some similar problems I’d like to squash once the mods are available.

At the start of the reveiw I was not interested but by the end of the controls segment where accessibility and a RNG discussion was had...my stance shifted. I think I will still enjoy the sequel more...but I'm actual going to grab this one. Esp. with the launch discount it feels a fair value.

God this brings back some old school vibes... May have to add this to my backlog...

If you could only choose three games that you've played or talked about over this last year and only be able to play those for the next year, what would they be? Welp, this is a instabuy!! Feels good to say that about a new Switch release... one that I've been waiting for too. I also didn't know about the dlc just released for the 2nd game. This a great week for Indies!

Maybe im a bit biased because risk of rain is my favorite game series but yeah, this one is a massive improvement over the first, which I already liked a lot. I'd definitely recommend it

DID YOU ALL EVEN SEE THAT SURVIVORS OF THE VOID DROPPED ON SWITCH ON THE SAME EFFING DAY!?!?!?!? Between this and ROR2: SotV, im gonna be so busy. Edit: I’m sure you did. Insane they both dropped on the same day.

when there’s a lot going on, expect major dips. but i had 100+ items so, kinda like ROR 2? but i keep hearing ROR 2 is still performing bad. here it’s much more consistent.

Any reviews coming for the shredders recenge dlc? Randomly found out about it yesterday and immediately picked up

@@firepanda282 lots of mainstream game channels don't usually cover DLC updates and if they do it's usually In passing or the DLC is particularly substantial. Just my take.

i bought the original for pc some years ago, but the game never clicked for me. Maybe i should give it another chance

You guys really need to spend more time with this title, theres quite a bit you weren't able to even touch on- especially the Providence Trials. Each survivor has an alternate ability for each move, and they can all be individually swapped out to build a moveset that works best with your playstyle. These alternate abilities are unlocked through said Providence Trials, with each being gated behind the completion of its own custom minigame or "trial" (some even offering secret rewards). I highly encourage everyone to stick with the game and experience the awesome content it has on offer as there is so much more waiting just under the surface.

You're asking why the teleporter takes 90 seconds to charge, so here the answer : It helps the game catch up to you as it serves as a balance mecanic so that you can't rush through levels. Imagine having a powerful character that finds a powerfull item right from the start, you could just snowball by getting more chests through levels and your power would grow way faster than the ennemies could. With the TP timer, you are the one who have to fight the clock, not the other way around.

So, is this like an enhanced version of the first game? Or a whole new game (risk of rain 3)? I've never played any of them so I'm a bit confused. The first game has been on my wishlist for a while, but it never goes on sale so I never got it. Would I be better off only getting this version? Or are they both worth checking out

Either don't play on a TV (use a monitor or handheld instead) or zoom in. Played on Steam Deck handheld and PC with a monitor, both looked fine.

The title sounds like the most British piece of smalltalk ever beyond "Been busy?" or "What time did you start?", and that's why I'm picking it up.

Unfortunately Roguelikes just haven't appealed to me in a while. Haven't felt like grinding them and enjoying more other games with a fighting game grind. If I go back to grinding it will probably be Dead Cells

This game is a slam dunk. Far superior to its 3D sequel imho. Hours and hours of the original logged on my PS Vita. Buy it.

It looks like a dead cells with more of a moonlighter color scheme

This is the sort of game I want to like but I know if I bought it I’d play it for an hour or so and then go back to something a bit less challenging for more chilled fun.

There are a bunch of difficulty tweaks in the settings, you can change how fast the enemies level up and the damage you do + take.

Looks fun, i always hear the second ones super good. But different than this one eh?
