Clearly you don't, because this is a textbook remake. There's like double the content and the game plays very differently, only the bones of the original game remain. By that same token, no, you weren't missing out on the original. I played it for about 20 hours a few years ago, and the idea was good enough for the game to be decently fun but the execution was terrible. The remake fixes basically all the issues from the original and also builds on it quite a lot, making an overall excellent game - which the original was not. It was a good first attempt by some college students just getting into game development.

​@@sparky6757 I definitely need to go back and play RoR 2013 to appreciate the work they put in to this one. Could be a fun video. Also, Returns states in its description that it is "beautifully remastered," but maybe that just refers to the graphics and audio. I have no clue lol.

@bigfreakinfrog The audio tracks were remastered - subtle changes to up the quality but the overall tracks are basically the same outside of a few brand new ones. Quite literally, Chris did the mastering process on them again. I would guess that's what the description was talking about, but fair enough for the misunderstanding. I'm realizing my original comment was worded rudely, and I want to say sorry for that, I didn't mean to. Or maybe I did mean to but realized it was mean later, I dunno. Sorry either way

ROR is the embodiment of "has no right going as hard as it does" and I for one am here for it. Some games have fire soundtracks, great sprite work, fantastic ambiance, enjoyable gameplay loops, a consistent feeling of improvement, etc, but as a franchise, very few are able to bring them all together as consistently as ROR.

@@draysmusicalshtposts6340 The mobile didn't phase me lol. It's just par for the course for large publishers that own their own IP. It's an easy bag. The DLCs seem to have people who are genuinely happy to be working on it. I hope they put all their cash grab stuff in the mobile game.

Coming from RoR2, I was wondering how the 2D style would play, and I've rlly enjoyed it so far despite the differences in playstyle. I never tried the OG RoR but returns is insanely fun. I'm rlly looking forward to the seekers of the storm DLC too!

Thank you for contributing to the game 😊 RoR2 is one of my favorites. I got over 300 hours in it and it gave me something to look forward to come home to in college. Now I feel that for Returns!

RoRR is 100% one of the best remakes thats been released so far. Everything is dripping with respect to the old and intense care for the new, feeling nostalgic while also so fresh with new abilities, characters, enemy interactions, trials, secrets AND a very good multiplayer. i would like hades 2 news though...

Every few years, I get to buy a Chris Christodoulou album, and an incredible game is attached. It's a win-win

the fact that people even think this game should be a free update speaks volumes to how seamlessly hopoo integrated all the new content without breaking the feel of the original game

I'm glad Returns has finally helped a lot of people realise how great ror1 is.

I literally had to keep rewinding the video because I realized I wasn’t paying attention to what you were saying and instead vibing to the music. That’s how good the soundtrack is.

The new characters seriously make the game a 100% times better. Just pilot alone is worth the price. So good

Yeah, he works really well in a 2D setting, to the point that it would he impossible to replicate him faithfully in 3D. I absolutely love his kit, and the wavedashing tech is really powerful and fun to do

the realest part about this video is all the gameplay of ror2 being in monsoon and the gameplay of returns being in drizzle, it's crazy how hard it is

they not only did a lift up of every sprite. they even gave every map 6 variations (except the Hog secret and the final map Risk of rain which has 2) also made "skins" which are Fucking unlockable and made 3 Alternate Abilities For EACH CLASS (secret char doesn't have alts) changes to items. and then they bring in modders to help with the game... one of them being the creator of Starstorm one of the big mods for Risk of rain 1.

Oh no... I HAD to shoot with z in RoR1... My dude. You can rebind your keys. Everyone I know rebound their keys to a setup pretty close to the "modern" default control scheme that RoRR has. Which, you know. Again, can be rebound.

I am stupid. But if I'm being fair to myself I didn't know what I wanted the controls to be. I honestly didn't think that a recreation of 2's controls would work for me but it does. I just didn't feel pushed to make the game work for me. Even if it only takes a few minutes.

@@bigfreakinfrog Yeah. That's fair. RoR1 is also just overall harder to get into. For me personally, the RoR2 controls didn't work, but I've played a few other platformers where I used that layout before which worked pretty well for me.

Loved RoR1 and didnt really get into 2 but Returns is just fantastic, the feeling of a new Risk of Rain is so unique my one and ONLY COMPLAINT ARE THE PROVIDENCE TRIALS. I dont mind them existing, they are neat and some are fun to me but why did you have to lock items and an artifact behind gold rank completion.......

That one is kinda wild lol. I'm having a lot of fun with Trials personally. I wished there were some tougher achievements in RoR2 as well because when I ran out of stuff to strive for, the game became exclusively a background thing for me and my friends to play.

Risk of rain music so good I bought a full vynil set of RoR2 woth the dlc tracks. I have somehow missed returns being a thing getting it right now.

I've been playing since Risk of Rain 1 came out, and I'm in LOVE with the world's lore. Risk of Rain Returns adds in SO MUCH new lore! It implies so much stuff about why the events happened which I wont spoil here, and even has tons of secrets not made obvious hidden within the game, like a hidden unlockable survivor!!! It's the perfect remake, it's truly perfect, I'm so impressed.

Not only did we get this masterpiece of a remake but we also getting a new ror2 DLC

i love the series and loving return. its just a serious shame that the few friends that i have is turned off PURELY because its 2d. i was able to convince them to play RoR2 but they just refuse on return though they like it almost as much as me

I was lucky to have another friend that was on board and we peer pressured another lol. Sadly our usual fourth still wasn't on board just because it was 2D.

bruh, the original let you rebind controls too. If you hated shooting with Z so much then you should have took 3 seconds to change that. Other than that, hard agree on every word that came out your mouth.

I think you actually described what RoRR is best. It’s a remake, not a remaster. It’s keeping the same core game, whilst changing most of the things that people didn’t like, and adding new things as well. They’ve done the impossible. They’ve kept the old fans happy while making the newer ones happy as well. I keep on saying this, but hopoo is dang good at what they do.

i really loves this game (i mean not as much as ror2 but still it's pretty awsome).... but i want to know if RORR will get any updates ??

Didn’t think I would like it since I played ror2 as my intro to the series I was like what is this 2d platformer but this game is fun as hell think modern controls is the move wasd movement jkl: for attacks either this or classic the ror2 controls feel funky to me for this type of game

i agree with every thing you said here but i also fill there are some problems with the game first i think the maps are too big it takes to much time to go through them and find items and even when you do find a chest a lot of the time its an equipment and not a buff they need to tone dawn the chance for an equipment and zooming out the camera to 1.0 take away the attachment you feel toward enemies and your character. the combat also dont feel that engaging the from what i played you just spam jump to avoid attacks where in ror2 avoiding attacks feels a lot better. but maybe my complaints become less of a problem the more you play the game unlocking ne items and learning the layout of the maps or what not. anyhow ror2 is my favorite game ever and i am happy to see you making a video on the franchise. and here hoping gearbox wont make ror a cheap cash cow moving forward even though that phone game doesn't give me much hope.

I think RoR, at least for now lol, is safe. The newest DLC seems pretty good just from the glimpses of the map, although I doubt they'll reach the same feeling as Hopoo games' developers. I ain't hold anything against em' for makin' a phone game. It just makes sense. Some people are gonna be drawn to em' and its an easy chunk of change from those willing to hop in. They announced that release alongside DLC for the actual game by people excited to work on it so I'm cautiously optimistic. Oh yeah also, on the map, I should have included that. The feeling of wasting time is a bit lessened the more you play the game but there is still a chance for you to get nothing over the course of a few minutes and run into a dead end. I didn't see Randy in the Risk of Rain anniversary stream so thats good at least.

Hopoo Games really risked their rain on this one Great vid, great game

I'm already at 48.5 hours played. Honestly I wasn't too hyped for a remake of the first game, but DAMN it goes so hard. Also, does using the arrow keys really bother people that much? I am the only one of my friends to use zxcv controls. I just don't get why people don't like it.

So it's RoR1 with better graphic and some balance adjust? They should have sell it as a DLC.

Enter the dungeon, binding of Isaac I get those. I just don't get the appeal of this especially risk of rain 2 its just annoying wandering around a bland arena killing enemies with 0 impact.

For me its making runs more consistent while inflicting greater challenges on myself and how chaotic the screen gets later in the run.

People are bitching about the controls even though they're piss easy to learn

dont feel the same way, the controls are (currently) clanky, the progression in game feels so much more punishing if you dont get good rng and the way of transportation feels underwhelming, like why not add another way of traversing through the map other than ropes and geysers.

I get you. It's not gonna be for everyone. They kept the design of the first one which is based on a more restrictive game style. I forgot to mention in the video that dead ends with no loot feel really bad to come across, especially with very little traversal abilities.

I feel like I’ve seen more people playing on drizzle than Ror2 or Ror1…is that just because the game is hard?

Bruh. They added like 30% extra content and more than doubled stage variant count and changed fundamental things about the game. That is a remake. No offense but if you're gonna smartass in a 2-options situation then know what you're talking about
