Africa has slaves in their own country right now, if you cared that much why not tackle the issues in the present instead of asking for an apology of people who have nothing to do with it? Yes the history is bad and should not have happened but this is not solving anything, how many people have to say sorry time and time again when they did nothing? Edit: Yes africa is not a country and i know that, worded it wrong.

Rishi is an Indian origin “Brit” and the apology in question won’t carry any weight because these atrocities were not perpetrated by his forefathers. 3. Notwithstanding, the sons don’t carry the sins of the fathers. 4. There are more pressing matters to attend to.

A recent newspaper report on this MPs comment demonstrates the inaccuracy of such nonsense on reparations. Great Britain abolished slavery and policed the seas to implement that decision. West African states promoted slavery from within and particularly in the Bight of Biafra were, by admission, much involved and British administration did all in their power, often against the wishes of the Igbo and the middlemen, Arachuku, to prevent the horrific trade. The Portugese continued long after abolition, the Spanish and others; when have I heard any voices raised against their recorded history of slavery? The Nilotic and North African people were and in cases still are, unashamedly, brutal motivators and beneficiaries of slaving. No reparations and it would behove the black MP to turn her attention to Africa, of which I doubt she has any first-hand experience. Sunak is absolutely correct in his response.

Yeah sure slavery still exists, but it's not as prevalent and it's also really a waste of time to try to compensate or even apologize to something that is already outlawed within the country. How long will we keep holding onto old greviances? When will we ever move on to more pressing matters at hand such as world conflict, social welfare, Infrastructure, Human capital, etc. Than worry about the things that we had no control over whatsoever in the entirety of our lives.

It is a fact of history that Britain repented of its slavery and released all the slaves. You cannot apologise for what other people did, or it reinforces the lie of guilt by association. Why should we apologise for something other people did, when the people who did it repented, and freed all the slaves?

But that is simply incorrect, the UK abolished slavery domestically in 1807, Haiti had abolished slavery in 1804 and numerous US states had as well in the years prior along with a number of countries that no longer exist. Furthermore, slavery in the British empire, which Britian still controlled and administered, was not abolished until 1833, after Greece, Uruguay, Bolivia, the Netherlands, France and Spain. If you're going to spout jingoism, at least be correct:)
