Oh yeah.

This has such a different vibe from The Evil King and I love it. The Evil King was sinister and overwhelming, with the instrumentals filling you with dread as Ganondorf flips between the oppressive rage and the almost solemn acceptance of the eternal struggle that he, Link, and Zelda are trapped in. It's about power and conviction. Rise Up shows a different side to Ganondorf, one where he sees himself as a glorious king ascending to power. The struggle is secondary; what matters here is victory. He doesn't view Link with the contempt of an enemy but the arrogance of a subject. He's arrogant in a way OoT Ganondorf's song doesn't show. It's about glory. I love both of these takes and the fact that Nate can do both with such skill is amazing.

There’s something different that gets me about each. The Evil King sounds kind of resigned to it. Like he’s just stating the way of the world and that someone going against it is regrettable but their destruction is just the way of things. “I knew this day would come, this is how it ends.” Rise Up is more competitive I guess the word is. There’s the contempt like he’s talking down to someone who doesn’t belong on the stage, but he hates them specifically. “This is the day I’ve been working toward and I despise you for standing in my way.”

“My hate has cycled and will soon be born anew” was one of my fave lines in the evil king, I’m so glad it got used again with a new twist

The way you can write songs based on video games and anime yet have it sound like a banger without knowing the context is part of why I’ve loved your music for going on 10 years ❤️

I don't know if Nate has returned to making fandom songs or if this is just a one off but it still makes me happy to see him releasing music again

Kind of puts the entire series into perspective doesn’t it? Doomed to repeat the same cycles. Twilight Princess Ganondorf wasn’t wrong, the history of light and shadow is written in blood, and it will always be.

My god, the use of Zelda's Lullaby for the clean guitar's base riff that everything else is built on... the hype AF chorus... THE CALLBACK TO "THE EVIL KING" AT THE END?! Absolute fucking BANGER.

A very short song, but absolutely beautiful! This is like "The Evil King: Reimagined".

I'd say 8 months is a reasonable amount of time off from nerdcore, especially with To Let Go coming out this Fall and A Taste of the Flame coming out next week, so you've gotta sprinkle some filler in-between.

Man, I've been on board listening to all your shit starting around the time Misty first dropped, it's crazy to think it's been so long. This is great, I love how it's a bridge between the old and new forms of ganondorf. I know it was intentional, but I've always heard the Hero of Time album, and most of all The Evil King as a musical narrative, so much so that I used it as a basis for the screenplay of an Ocarina musical. I love that album and it means a lot to me, so coming back to it now after the cycle is complete is so cool to see.
