Thank you for your patience, this one took a long time. I started capturing the footage of this game right after I got my PS4 Pro in November, and just finished editing it last night. There are a few reasons for that, which I will discuss below. Unfortunately I wasn't able to capture this game in 4K, but I did run the game in 4K mode, which is supersampled down to 1080p, resulting in much smoother edges than standard 1080p mode.
If you haven't seen my work before, I edit the stories of video games into full length movies. Where others may just slap together cutscenes, I focus on telling the story, and that story requires some gameplay footage. I try to work hard to cut the gameplay down as much as possible, as too much gameplay obviously can detract from the cinematic experience, but the focus is on keeping as much gameplay as is necessary to understand the story without lot holes, and to try to maintain a good pacing and flow to the movie while doing that.
Another part of what I do involved removing what I call "gameplay indicators". These are the various things that pop up on screen and remind the viewer that they're watching video game. Things like gameplay objectives, button prompts, "saving..." icons, hints, etc. Unfortunately, this game had a TON of them. While many of these things can be removed through editing or zoom/cropping, many others require advanced VFX work to remove them. For this movie, I created 423 VFX shots. That's where I spent the majority of my time.
However, there was another thing I chose to do with this movie, and that was format it for a 2.40:1 aspect ratio. There were a couple reasons for this. First of all, the game often features a very wise field of view, which I believe fits the wider aspect quite well, and secondly, I knew having the wiser aspect would make it easier to edit out many of the gameplay indicators I ran into.
The problem is, this requires a technique called "tilt and scan". You may have heard of "pan and scan" which is a similar technique used to format wider movies for VHS or TV, but tilt and scan is essentially the same thing, except you're formatting it for a wider image instead. This required me to essentially animate camera tilting up and down throughout each shot, making sure I maintain a good framing of the image, not only making sure everything was in the shot, but also that the shot looked nice, keeping a good artistic balance, etc.
So thank you for your patience, I have been very busy on this and I am glad to be done with it. I will be taking a bit of a break after all that work, as I need to catch up on some games I haven't had much time to play during this process, and also to play the new Horizon Zero Dawn game coming out Tuesday. Can't say whether it has movie potential yet or not, but we'll see.
As for my next movie, I was planning to do Telltale's Batman game series, but I ran into a few performance issues throughout the game that made me start to reconsider, as some scenes were basically unplayable. However with the new Boost Mode on the PS4 Pro, I may be able to revisit that idea. If that still doesn't solve the problem, I may still consider checking it out on PC to see how it runs there. Aside from that, most of what I'm considering involves games I've already done, remaking them in either 1080p or 4K, depending on what's possible. Unfortunately I don't think I will be doing Watch Dogs 2 as a movie. I'm enjoying the game, but I didn't think the story was quite strong enough to carry a movie (although I'm not finished so I can't say 100%). Like I said, Horizon Zero Dawn could hold some potential, so I'll be looking at that, and for the future I will definitely be doing Uncharted The Lost Legacy, the next Assassin's Creed game, the next Arkham game (still unannounced), and The Last of Us Part 2. Maybes include the new Spider-man and God of War games. Detroit: Become Human also looks like it has a lot of potential as well.
Feel free to suggest others if you think they would work well as a movie.

I came across this movie by accident, have never seen any thing like it before, I am not a gamer and this is so different from the games I played on the Atari as a young adult. Watched the whole thing - much to my own surprise and all I can say is . . . well played.
Ever the best filmmaker from videogames ! The elimination of every indications, annotations and various shits from the screen is the definitive point of force of your style. For what i know nobady else make this, but i think that is fondamental for a good movie. Big compliments !!

Laura's super powers include impervious to hypothermia, can go for days exerting herself almost nonstop without food or water, and can produce weapons out of the thin air. Good story and saw this instead of a regular movie

This is crazy cool...I jumped forward a little when I started watching but then just got hooked as it jumped between cut scene and minor gameplay it brought a bit of nostalgia and remembering Laura from the original series and how the original was more about the puzzle/story and being like a more action packed Myst at the time... lol it's funny I'm still watching this as I type this out. Almost like how the game designers would want their games experienced... this shit is tight!

The reason it doesn't happen like that in real life is because it isn't real life. Who would want to play a game that mimics real life? That would just be called "life". Don't be one of those people who watches something and constantly says "that would never happen irl". If you are that person, step away from all forms of tv, movies, games and rpg's and go outside for a while.

Suspense gallore at its best. This is the work of a master craftsman, its an Oscars!
super hyper photo realism art, seem to recognize square in Florence with all those statues, mountainclimbing so realistic I hold on to my chair, recognize thin ledge shuffling, anyway I was spellbound hour after hour, also the magic lantern idea, love you, thanks for the experience

WOW. Just found this. Haven't had a chance to watch any of it. Not into games. Don't know if I'll continue, but, i'm amazed at the incredible almost human characters are. Technology is marvelous!

How did you remove the UI? I never could... And the idea of using the black bars was brilliant! It looks exactly like watching an actual movie, not the random joining of cutscenes the KZreadrs usually do Edit: such seamless editing at 22:25... almost didn't notice the entire puzzle section you skipped!

lots and lots of work. A mix of zoom/cropping in some shots (the black bars help) as well as 423 visual effects shots where I manually removed them using a variety of techniques.

i don't own a PS4 so the movie was fun. the editing was really good and the flow between the cutscenes and the gameplay was brilliant.
I've always loved the story of tomb raider and now to watch it in this form makes it more awesome

What, like the Baba Yaga missions? Or the croft manor stuff? While they had some fun, it wasn't anything special imo. Was there anything else I may have missed? I still don't have 100% in the game.

Daniella Rose Miller I haven't played the zombie one but I think that also takes place in the manor. Yeah nothing too great in terms of DLC for this one. They're nice additions, but not really anything that deserves a movie.

It's amazing viewing. I felt thrilling experience. There have a climbing, fighting, killing, thrilling, etc. Which has been good storying.

Wow! This is a lot of hard work. I actually tried making my version as well.. I know it's late but I haven't been able to play this game on release coz of med school. Now I had the time to play and I wanted to make a "movie" out of it. Exactly the same reason as you with the same philosophy. :) The hardest part for me was coz the game cut scenes had black bars on the sides even tho the scene was rendered in game.. it was a lot of work to edit. I just saw this video now and I'm still not done with mine. I play on PC btw. I tried searching around for something like this coz I know there has to be one who had the same idea considering I'm very late. :D Now that I found out about this... I guess I can scrap my version and make different videos. :) This is such an amazing work. So timely that at the time I'm making one too, I found out about your channel. I subscribed immediately...

She existed before Nathan Drake. They are similar because the Uncharted games influenced the Tomb Raider reboot in terms of gameplay, but most of all because both are massively influenced by Indiana Jones.

Lara Croft (tombrider generally) is who which has softness of a lady and wildness of worrier to defend that softness! This gives me pleasant experience during this game which is rare! Thanks a lot dear makers! Tankyou uploader!

That Lara Croft Tom Raider has a very beautiful body shape and stands out especially when wearing a costume like this, like angel
