8:29 *AcTuAlLy* the term was in use since the Roman Empire, "Doge" is a dialectal alteration of the word Dux, used to indicate great military leaders, used for propaganda in the entire history of Italy. Since ww2 no one actually consider the term as positive anymore for obvious reasons and is not used anymore. The obvious reasons: Mussolini was the Duce, which is Dux in modern italian.

I mean, that reminds me of Arcaneum to some extend, where technology and magic were opposing forces on every level. Like if your character is a dedicated wizard, they're practically swimming in magic energy, and it causes technology to malfunction, if not outright explode just from being near you. And similarly, if your character focused on tech, like using guns and such for combat, they become more and more inept at magic, to the point magical items like wands will cease to function in your hands.

That's actually a long standing fantasy meme. Technology, particularly simple circuits (tie copper wire around a quartz crystal), completely destroys magic.

I actually still have this game on disc from when it first released.

I seem to remember that one of the skirmish maps has a temple or something in the middle that allows you to summon those and/or some other units you normally don't get. It's been a while though.

I've never played this before but now I kind of want to. also, the aliens using energy generation instead of making use of the same resources as everyone else kind of reminds me of the masari from Universe at War.

This game is an absolute hidden Gem. With Rise of Nations being among my top five video games, like Stronghold and Diablo 2, this one fits snuggly beside them. Despite the dated graphics, the Fun Factor and Gameplay of these classics are absolutely unparalleled today. They created so much with so little. It is an absolute shame that it has become all but abandoned. Edit: also, the Soundtrack of Rise of Legends and Rise of Nations are some of the best pieces of music that I continue to vibe with to this day.

We may complain about graphics, but older games were actually built to be playable.

@@kovobanga1559 В молодости я пытался говорить на славянских языках, чтобы произвести впечатление на симпатичную студентку-переводчицу, но у меня был ужасный акцент, и преподаватели повторяли за мной одни и те же слова, не объясняя, как я ошибаюсь.

@@TheSimmr001 на самом деле, я не особо одарён с языковой точки зрения. Да, я учусь на иностранного филолога, но русский язык оказался моим родным, хотя я родился далеко не в России и по национальности далеко не русский. Я знаю ещё языка четыре, но они все хромают очень сильно. Английский стал моим натуральным вторым языком, но почти никто в моей семье на нём не говорит. Так что не мне судить о сложности изучения русского, но скажу по правде, надежда и правда есть. Я видел много кого, кто смог осилить в приемлемом виде его, так что акцент достаточно незначительная проблема. И заодно, ближе к теме ролика, это стало основой моего пиратского детства, ибо игры на английском мне долго не давались и покупать их было сильной растратой даже для взрослых в то время. Сейчас, правда, не парит ни то, ни другое. Сэт напоминает об очень ностальгичном прошлом тем самым.
