Most of the plagiarism accusations were over visuals. Same outfits. Same hair colors. The one with RM specifically, he read someone’s poem or writings on twitter late one night and liked it. Later when he was writing a song he remembered the line he liked but not where from. I believe the twitter user was even ok with it. That’s the story as I remember it. RM apologized. Zico is one of the undisputed greats when it comes to Korean rappers, he’s based more out of k-hip hop rather than kpop currently but his group Block B is fairly well regarded as well. They’re the ones who battled BTS at MAMA 2014 which I’m pretty positive you did watch. Him and RM have been friends for years, they went through the underground scene together as teenagers and even had collaborations back then, long before RM joined Bighit

The plagiarism accusations and apology started from one accidental instance- Namjoon had read something on Twitter, an inspirational quote or poem or something and completely forgotten where he’d gotten it from and ended up using it later in a song- when he found out he apologised and all was well except now every goddamn Kpoppie decided that this meant he needed to apologise for every instance where they convinced themselves BTS copied their favourite group even when it was completely nebulous and entirely superficial. Like BTS wore school uniforms? You copied us, apologise. BTS member dyed their hair a certain colour? You copied us, apologise. You also had a photoshoot with a hot air balloon? You copied us, apologise. It was so fucking insane. The first instance was so genuinely understandable, the amount of things other people have said that I heard or read about that have slipped their way into my vocabulary or thought patterns without me realising where they’re from are astonishing. Like I had a joking way of speaking that I used for YEARS that I later realised was ripped almost word for word from an obscure ass barbie tv show I watched when I was seven. Most thoughts people have aren’t entirely original, it’s almost impossible to be sure, and RM apologised when he realised it happened. It doesn’t make him a bad person, and it didn’t make him responsible for every completely bullshit crack theory kpoppies had on why their fave was always the one who did everything first and that everyone else HAD to be copying them no matter how generic it was. But still, there was a torrential amount of hate directed at BTS and RM specially at the time.
