They didn't. Listen to Cliffy B when talking about the design of the game when they were first making game, this is completely antithetical to what they had imagined with Gears. Too bad they were too cowardly to patch it out in GOW 1 and now we're stuck with it. If you got rid of it now there'd be riots.

The first gears was the best, none of that cover cancelling stuff, the sequels tried too hard to make the gears more agile, which was never the point of gears of war

This is why I only play campaign and horde mode

People keep saying "skill issue" Serious question; Is a whole playstyle that evolved around an exploit in the game mechanic the devs never bothered to fix. Really skill, where in another game it would called out.

Unfortunately yes, every competitive game with long-lasting exploits end up becoming focused entirely around them. Take a look at GunZ, a game that would have never taken off ended up becoming one of the most sweaty and competitive games possible because the sheer level of animation cancel exploits in it were off the chain.

You missed out on a lot. From Gears 2 - early Gears 5 it gradually became sweatier. Gears Of War 4 was peak though since that was around the time actual gaming org’s like Optic made team rosters for this game, which the guy in this clip was part of.

Yeah, whenever you aren't playing it against other people. This has been Gears's Versus gameplay forever, wallbouncing was a thing in GOW 1. For the whole series, Versus has been completely antithetical to the game's design thanks to this exploit Epic were too cowardly to patch out.

They really should’ve brought back more black steel characters. They were so clean and the neon glow was beautiful. I still think 4 multiplayer was peak coalition

So nostalgic, and your a good player. My favorite playmode was playing for waves, its all about strategy and running it multiple tries. Played always the hardest difficulty in Gears 1,2 or 3. I really dont remember what game it was, but I played on xbox 360. It was the best time to play ever.

He was leading the game. Your character glows when you're winning and everyone guns for you.

Don't get me wrong you played good but that's another reason why gears 5 sucks so much. If it wasn't a single game it was every game people were wall bouncing nonstop thinking they're good. But I really don't care I prefer the order gears's gears of war's. I wish gears of war 2 was still alive.

Yeah. I'm calling bullshit since this was the multiplayer experience from the very beginning. Stop acting as if you've been a long time fan "remembering the good ol' days."

@@asctiu9755 As someone who's been playing Gears since "the good ol' days", I can confirm this combat loop is how it's been since Gears 2 -- and before that it was cover sliding, weapon sliding and often times crabwalking (the latter 2 items being straight up glitches). I don't even like Gears 5 all that much, but I also literally just played a match like this in Gears 3. The speed has increased and there are like two new movement mechanics, but it's the same shit. Hell, this game doesn't even buff weapons after an Active Reload (which is bullshit) so weapons are *less* deadly than they used to be. Meanwhile in Gears of War 1, an active sniper rifle would down an enemy in one shot regardless of where you hit them.

The nerds playing casual matchmaking that killed the multilayer population.
