It's a motorcycle, absolutely. Like every other 'enthusiast group' out there, motorcyclists have their fair share of toxic people who would rather exclude people than see their hobby grow. These narrow-minded people don't understand that some people have disabilities and couldn't otherwise ride. Bottom line is that the more important part of this is that it just gives people more choice. How do people hate on that?

Ha! So I have a 125 HP Scooter! 🤣 Seriously though, I was a die hard manual guy until I actually road a newer Goldwing. The main thing I noticed is my head was always up and not looking at my speedometer calculating what gear I should be in. In other words I was paying way more attention to what was around me rather than averting my attention to what my bike is doing. Lower speeds, curves did take me a bit to get used to and trust my bike knew what it was doing. Once I got used were the bike (consistently I might add) downshifted for me, and the flappy paddle usage, it's a whole new world. The acceleration and smoothness of shifting is unparalleled. I loved all my old manual bikes but I don't feel I can ever go back.

Not a motorcycle to me it’s a scooter I have no problem with either one but it should be in it’s own class

People tend to want to force their opinion on others… you’re not really a biker if you don’t ride on certain days or in bad weather or if you ever haul your bike… if you don’t ride a certain brand you’re not really a biker Yada Yada Automatic shift is just another option… something new. Some will love it and some will despise it because it’s not traditional.

I absolutely love my Africa Twin DCT. Lifelong rider of manual transmission bikes. DCT makes riding a 550 pound bike off road so much easier and safer. Can't stall it on a hill. Plus, stop and go and slow traffic are handled with absolutely no drama. I wouldn't go back to a manual for adventure riding, ever.

While I love the control, especially on trails and mountain roads, of a manual, when I am fighting a cramp in my left hand in a traffic jam the idea of an automatic is pretty nice. I my opinion they are here to stay and they are real motorcycles. Consider the older, but otherwise spry, rider with arthritis or someone who has suffered a hand injury. Not just the new rider.

I bought a 1977 Honda 750A when I lived in California back in 1982. When I saw it sitting at a used car lot, I pulled in to take a look. The main reason was it had a massive Windjammer, hard bags by Shoei, luggage rack and running boards, custom seat, stereo, etc. I know I should just say loaded. To my surprise it was an automatic with low and high and a shift lever next to the running boards. I bought it to take trips down the freeways. My current motorcycle was a Kawasaki 3 cylinder I rode for speed. I was in my late 20's -I loved it and thought it was cool and easy to ride at freeway speeds. I am 69 years young and still have it but it's no longer drivable. My friend Jeff bought an Africa Twin in 2023 automatic DCT, He sold his Harley because it was getting a bit harder for him to ride. I remember, if correct, Honda in late 70s early 80s had an auto Trans on their 900 as well. There are many people who don't have the strength to pull the clutch. Go auto! It's not a race. It's a ride!

​@@tellytruth8554I don't know if you received them in the US but in the UK Honda imported a CB400 automatic Superdream in the early 80s. It proved to be a useful bike for urban commuting and city riding.

In the 70s I had a honda 400A ,automatic.loved that bike! Had a hi and low .I could hug it with my knees like a cycle,wish they made the scooters that way,feels like I need a seatbelt

Hey Jess, the old man here. As a young boy, my parents bought me a used Honda 50 trail bike. It had an automatic transmission. So, the concept of automatic transmission motorcycles isn't new. And my dad owned the Honda trail /street 90. It was automatic as well. My thoughts about automatic motorcycles are as follows. It would be a great option for people who have physical limitations. Especially if you have artificial lims. I feel if the bike has 2 or 3 wheels and has an automatic transmission, and, it can be driven across the country. Then it's still a motorcycle. But these are my opinions. Stay safe out there, everybody.

Digging the new series already! 10 minutes or so on one topic seems perfect 👌 On the topic of "automatic" motorcycles, I'm all for it! Anything that gets more folks on two or 3 wheels is good for the rest of us by keeping the sport alive.

Back in the early 2000s I was invited to attend an event in Dallas to review some unbranded new concept bikes. As soon as I entered the display room (large conference room), I knew I was looking at Honda concept bikes. They basically were the Honda VTX 1300s models and the Fury. At the end of the survey, they wanted to know my opinion of automatic transmissions on motorcycles. I said that they might be a good idea for new riders, but I didn't think experienced riders would enjoy having one. Well, years later, Honda started putting the DCT automatics on the Goldwing. My thinking has evolved, I know feel automatics make a lot of sense in an urban environment, and sometimes also for highway travel. I currently ride a Harley Ultra Limited, so obviously I have a 6 speed manual transmission. But I am now 64 years old, and the automatic doesn't seem so out of place on a bike. We live in an age where younger riders are not replacing us older riders quickly enough. I think anything that the manufacturers can do to bring in new riders is an intelligent move. So, if automatics move the needle in a positive direction, I am all for seeing them grow and potentially take over. One of my riding buddies is a Goldwing rider, and he tells me its about 5 to 1 in favor of the automatic Goldwing on the DFW area Honda showroom floors!!! P.S. to all you younger people, you do not want to miss out on the adventures and comradery of a motorcycle life. Get one and get out there, you can thank me later, grin of face!

I ride a 2022 Honda Goldwing Bagger DCT, it is quick off the line and SMOOTH !

Most high performance cars now use a DCT. It probably is more like a manual transmission internally, than your typical "auto". Had one for about six years now..love it.

I'm 82, and had rode manual motorcycles for over 40 years. I got back into motorcycling a few years ago when I found my Honda CTX700/DCT. Arthritis and other ailments had made clutching difficult with stalling, etc. with my old manuals. That being said, I love the DCT, and I dust off many Harleys at stoplights with the low-end torque, and automatic shifting this light (480 lbs) bike has. I believe the manual transmission is in the same era as the air cooled engine and the kick starter.😅 The DCT gives me more time to be aware of my surroundings without worrying about controls, and I switch to manual mode when in twisties so I control when it shifts. If you're into loud, vibrating bikes, you'll probably not like mine, but I'll never go back, now. I enjoy riding again.👍🏾

I’ve been riding for about 6 years now and have owned both, manual and automatic motorcycles. Living in a densely populated urban area I don’t think I will ever go back to a manual as a commuter bike. The automatic definitely has its advantages in heavy Chicago traffic, BUT, I do sometimes miss a manual transmission.

DCT is a BOSS............clutches are awesome as well! all brands and anything 2 wheels, LFG !

Anything that gets more people riding motorcycles is a good thing, but I hope manual motorcycles are still available and don’t get phased out like manual cars.

Hey Jess, I just bought my first bike, and it is an automatic. Honda NC750X DCT. Many people may call it a scooter, not a real bike etc, and that’s fine. I think what’s most important is to ride your ride. And that’s what you’ve always done and why I love your channel so much. Ride on, my friend.

Good choice very versatile bike, I've owned around 8 different bikes in the last 35 years (my first road bike being a 250 cc Honda Scooter) I just recently bought a NC750X DCT as well, It's a big adjustment from the last few bikes I've owned although all in all very smooth ride and I'm enjoying mine!

An automatic motorcycle in my book is still a motorcycle, just with an automatic transmission. Like you said a lot of people probably don’t understand the manual transmission and are afraid to ride because of that. To be honest I love the manual transmission but after doing my job all these years my hands and wrist hurt. Sometimes my clutch wrist really hurts if I have to do a lot of shifting or crawl in slow traffic. Someday I may need an auto transmission. To each their own on how they go about their adventure.

I love my Honda with DCT … it’s definitely a motorcycle 🏍️. I love being able to focus on all the other aspects of the ride.

Same here 100% got my got my first DCT (honda rebel 1100) 2 weeks ago. Makes riding more comfortable with my arthritis from an old injury that never healed right from when I was little.

When I get old I will consider a dct, but for now riding and shifting is part of the enjoyment in riding

Oh. I meant to answer your question.. yes it’s still a motorcycle of course 2 wheels large displacement. No different than auto cars/ manual cars etc.

My take on this is yes automatic motorcycles are “part” of the future. But please for all that is 😇 do not take my manual away. LOL. It’s like having an automatic corvette sure you can but why in the world would I want to. There is something special about manual shifting the connection it brings to rider/driver and his/her machine…. Mwauw!! Simply awesome 😎

Unless the topic is broached or someone knows that automatics exist outside of the popular models, most wouldn't care. 2 wheels are 2 wheels, when others see you that arent motorcyleist they think you either on a Harley or a rice burning street bike. Ride thw ride, be aware of your surroundings, amd keep up the great work, looking forward to this series.

Absolutely it's a real motorcycle! I'm seriously looking into swapping my BMW RT for a Honda NC750x DCT not because I dislike the BMW, I love it, but because I am starting to get arthritis in my hands. Nobody argues that DCT gearboxes in cars make them any less of a car. In fact it's considered a performance enhancing component. I don't see why it should be any different for bikes.

Both styles have their place, automatics are great for commuting, and leisure riding, but nothing can make up for the control you have with a clutch in technical terrain. I believe there is a place for both and its up to the individual rider to weigh the pros and cons depending on the type of riding they will be doing.

1) DCT/Auto motorcycles are still motorcycles. If you want to use automatic as the scooter dividing line, draw it at centrifugal clutches and keep the DCTs and CVTs grouped with the "regular" motorcycles. 2) My only real reservation is that DCT can dilute some of the "2-wheel therapy" aspects. My take is that riding helps you forget your stress by keeping you too busy to think about anything except operating the bike and dodging cars. By taking away some of the required workload, it opens up brainspace for the rest of the world. 3) Sadly, with the near extinction of standard cars, I'm afraid that motorcycle manufacturers will find that it's auto or nothing, as I'm not sure it will be many more years before the only motorists of any stripe that have ever seen a manual transmission will be enthusiasts or antique collectors. 4) I was pretty concerned about the argument that people don't ride because they can't pay attention to the shifting. There are many valid reasons to prefer an automatic transmission, but my brain wouldn't let me hear the end of that sentence. I made to "I don't ride because I can't pay enough attention" and saw nothing but red flags. Ride what you like, but if you have the self-awareness to know your attention is lacking, I'd recommend you stick to something with crumple zones.

DCT’s I’ve had or own; VFR1200, AT1000, ‘Wing, AT1100. I like the ride with the auto. Obviously touring is easy; however it’s really good in technical situations. And the paddle is easy to use.

The people who think an automatic motorcycle isn't a motorcycle, ride about 500 miles a year, tops!

My Harley is down right now, fuel injection issues, but when those are resolved I intend to take Jerry Palidinoe's "Ride Like A Pro" course. In that course, the use of the cutches' Friction Zone is taught and used extensively, I don't think the DCT transmission lends itself to the tight maneuvering and finessed control that you can achieve with a clutch. My interest was piqued when I saw that Recluse offers a clutch for touring Harleys, that didn't require the use of a clutch to shift the bike up and down without using the clutch again after taking off from a stop, but I abandoned that plan, preferring to use my clutch for slow speed maneuvering. But I would love to have a Honda Rebel 1100 DCT as a second, around town bike, maybe?

Slow speed maneuvering is done with the DCT by "keeping the throttle loaded" and using the rear brake instead of the clutch friction zone. It takes some practice, but it works fine.

Put the DCT in rain mode for low speed maneuvers.

On a DCT, you feather the rear brake against the throttle. I takes getting used to, but it's essentially the same thing. DCT's can be ridden slowly even easier than a manual because you can't stall it.

So first, a scooter is a motorcycle. It's just a type of motorcycle and it is the dominant motorcycle type on the planet. That out of the way, I picked up the love of riding while visiting China where scooters are by far more abundant than other types of motorcycles and you can just rent one with an app on most street corners. Secondarily, I drove a manual cars for the better part of 35 years and so manual shifting doesn't make me feel any kind of way about riding. I have zero romantic notions about it. It's just an extra thing that I need to occupy some part of my brain with, so I prefer automatics. I have a 300cc maxi scooter (Kymco X-Town 300i ABS), if and when I move up, it will probably be a 550cc or 750cc scooter, and then to a DCT motorcycle like the Goldwing unless BMW's new automatics coming out next year make the R18 automatic, or they start doing electrics which already exist all over China. There is something really cool about having something fly past with zero sound except the wind its moving through. It's a little bit like Star Wars x-wing fighter sounds.

I had a Spyders it definitely had its advantages over 2 wheels. Yes it was a semiautomatic you had to paddle shift. I currently ride a Suzuki V-Strom 650 I love it it’s like the Sherman tanks of motorcycles. Would I buy another Spyders no only because I like the original body style compared to newer ones. As far as the DCT Honda makes the best of one. Yes I was giving a hard look at the NC750X dct. Does a dct make you less a rider nope.

Been riding "baggers" of all manufacturers for years including the butt ugly best fitting and riding Victory Vision. I guess Harleys are my favorite however if I were in the market for a new bike, it would have to be the Goldwing DCT Touring. Enjoyed the discussion.

i would ride an automatic motorcycle!!!! i drove manual trucks for years and then when i got an auto i realized i was working way to hard. when you ride to relax and enjoy it then relax and enjoy

Sooooo, I have a Star Raider, a 1300 V Star Tourer that is flashed, and you know what brings the biggest smile when I ride on 2? A 600cc 2009 Honda Silver Wing, in classic Candy Wineberry, 2105mi, $3500. A shame Honda discontinued this gem. Nimble, fun, easy tourer, a sleeper for sure. Had it up to 105mph with a lil more room on the throttle. The engine braking approaching a stop is phenomenal. It shifts into neutral at like 10mph, then I just tap a brake to stop.

I almost bought the Honda Goldwing Bagger DCT. Passed on it. But my brother bought one. Sometimes, i regret not getting it. Ive ridden his an its a smooth ride. Alot of fun. After im done paying for my HD. Which will be shortly. I may go have a 2nd look at it

I've been riding over 44hrs Arthritis has me riding my cmx1100 and Bergman 650 as long a s I can keep riding it's all good

I freaking love the Africa Twin, and it is most certainly a motorcycle. A scooter is still a motorcycle, it's just a different type. A differing transmission maketh not the motorcycle. Purpose, design, rider position, these are the characteristics that make one type of motorcycle different from another. Love to see your motovlogs getting more attention, it's why I starting following your channel and why I continue to follow it today. Your videos inspire me to document my riding and share it. I ride a DCT and never use the automatic mode on a twisty road. The paddle shifting is great though. Love my AT.

I just got back to Indiana from a trip to Eureka Springs,and I was stuck in traffic at Effingham Illinois for over a hour, testing my slow speed maneuver. I wish I had an Automatic,because my clutch hand was killing me.

Great video. I Purchased my Honda Rebel 1100T DCT In Dec. of last year. My rebel is my 3rd. bike so I'm not a stranger to a manual bike. I Really struggled with the decision to get a DCT a lot had to do with peer pressure, you know the whole" It's not a real motorcycle" thing or "it's just a scooter". But it did interest me. I'm a more "mature" rider.. LOL The thought of just being able to get on the bike and not worry about things like hills and stalling sounded good to me. I must say though you are spot on with hitting the curvy roads. It took me a minute to get the shifting down but once I did, I was in love. It made the ride so much fun. For me anyway. all in all, I love my DCT. Yes, there has been a time or two that I was so comfortable I almost forgot to put my feet down but Ha that only adds to the excitement.. LOL If I were a younger person I probably wouldn't have gotten it. I do still like going through the gears and feeling like a little granny bad ass. Thats why I kept my Shadow. But when I just want to enjoy the ride and the great places I go I'll jump on my Rebel. No regrets here. oh, and yes, an automatic motorcycle IS a motorcycle....

Automatic is the future if you want motorcycle popularity to grow. If it gets more people riding then make more automatics!! It happened in the car world and even semi's have auto's now.

Jess, I'm glad you are doing more motovlogs, they are my favorite type of video. As for the automatic bikes I don't see a problem with them. I don't think they will replace manual motorcycles. Anything that gets you in the wind is good. It gives some people the opportunity to ride that might not just like trikes do. My trike is a manual but has an electric shifter because I require all hand controls. An automatic would be better than adding some other component that could fail. For those that think automatic bikes aren't a "real" motorcycle, who cares. If you don't like them, don't ride one. A real biker rides what they want and don't care what anyone else thinks.

I commute from the outer suburbs of Sydney into the city centre every day, about 65km or 40 miles each way. I go from highway, to B roads, to urban stop start splitting. I am lucky enough to be able to afford 2 bikes. Recently, I purchased a dedicated commuter bike and went for a Honda Nt1100 DCT. I cannot tell you how good it is. I do think I would have bought a manual bike if I only had 1 bike. But really, for everyday long distance commuting the DCT is the way to go. I am noticeably calmer, and less fatigued when I get to work and it has improved my day to day more than I could have imagined. I just wish they put it in something other than dad bikes.

Last summer I was exploring 3 wheeled vehicles since my wife won't ride two up on two wheels. I first tried the Cam Am (DCT) and found it difficult to ride in comparison to a motorcycle. I thought, thank goodness this is DCT so I didn't have one more thing to think about while riding it. Then the next day, I found out my local HD dealer had a demo trailer. Might as well try the Tri-glide. Although manual, was a much easier riding bike. So I guess the moral of the story is each has their own place. PS - I not a HD person, but since that trike I've tried 6 or 7 HDs last summer. The bigger they are the better they are. It really changed my mind for the better about the brand.

To be fair: that Africa Twin has a Dual Clutch Transmission - nothing like the typical automatic transmission in a car. This transmission is ready to shift up or down, either way with the "dual" clutch. I have an earlier generation DCT in my Honda CTX; while the current DCT bikes use even more technology, I am very impressed with the capability of the DCT. It can be ridden as "an automatic," but it is so much more than that. With Drive, Sport, and Manual Modes, you have full control over the shift points... and with the paddle shifters, you can shift faster than with a manual transmission. No missed shifts or missed neutral. Easy to pull away from a stop on an incline. Regardless of the Mode you are in, you can still manually downshift (or upshift) as desired. This bike is great in the twisties! This is very different from the CVT transmission on a scooter. I had Honda CTX-700 DCT for a few years... There is nothing better than dual clutch transmission for touring and commuting, especially commuting... It does perfect shifting in any situation. Much better than you could ever do manually.

I love my Honda DCT automatic. I have a CTX700N. I have carpal tunnel syndrome. I also have anxiety and autism and I feel like I'm able to focus on other safety aspects on riding. I live near the bay area and it's so much easier to deal with traffic. I have gotten used to trail braking or using the paddle to downshift.

I like the paddle shifters on some models. It still lets the rider downshift, when needed; and shift up too.

after riding my standard motorcycle for few hours, my left hand start cramping. Just purchased Honda NC750X less than couple months, and I already put more than 2.5k miles on it. Riding a motorcycle became effortless, and you can rack up miles w/o mental nor physical strains. Though, I have to admit that an automatic motorcycle banish some of the challenges of handling manual shifting and and the associated thrill of full control. The flip side of that, one has more bandwidth to focus on riding and safety when operating an automatic motorcycle.

Just a question. Wonder how an automatic motorcycle would do in motorcycle safety courses? Staying in the friction zone in sharp turns with your clutch, I guess you could use rear braking to help. Just my point of view and question.

My DCT Goldwing does great actually. Now you play throttle vs back brake to make your new friction zone. I've got 91,000+ miles on 2019 Goldwing Tour DCT. It's been awesome. I've been riding over 50 years so, yes I know how to ride a manual bike. It's great that there's a manual mode for when you get the urge for doing it yourself.

As of Friday, I am the proud owner of a Victory Vision that has air in the rear brake system. It is quite common and I will get it fixed. The ride home was very interesting because I use my rear brake to stabilize the bike at slow speeds under throttle. I’m sure the automatics would require rear brake just as I use it with a manual and a clutch.

For my final ride out, for my full M certification, you had to use your own bike. I used my maxis scooter and it was fine. Actually I thought it was a lot of fun. You just have to learn the use of the rear brake and throttle more.

The auto vs manual argument has been going for years in the car community. With more auto options becoming available on motorcycles AND trikes it will certainly (imo) attract riders that possibly would not have attempted to ride before. Certainly, it's still a real motorcycle though. The way you worded that question sounds reminiscent of the old grizzeled bikers saying if its not a harley, its not a real bike, or its junk lol 😅

Hi Jess! Just for the record, even scooters are motorcycles. I’ve been riding for over 30 years and never understood the argument. If it keeps your knees in the wind, go for it. I’m about to buy an Electra Glide for the cruise control. Simple as that! And I grew up on Honda. Wish I could afford both 🤷‍♂️

I think they are motorcycles; DCT, EVs, and such. I think for people who are not used to shifting it makes a lower barrier to entry for new riders.

If it gets more people on motorcycles it's thumbs up from me.

My ADV150 is automatic which is really nice since I’m just starting out. I do intend to move up to a cruiser when I’m ready

Love manual transmission on anything. The family car is automatic as my wife can't drive manual. I like the feel and thought that goes into a manual.

As an intermediate rider of 9 years or so, I personally will stick to a manual transmission motorcycle unless something physically prevents me to operate a clutch. I think it would be hard for me to wrap my head around doing slow speed stuff without a clutch. With that being said, my wife does have a physical limitation that put her on a Can-Am Spyder which does have a (mostly) automatic transmission and without that, she would not be able to ride. I just find it really jarring on my muscle memory when I have to ride hers because I do find myself reaching for the clutch and front brake (Can-Am Spyders have a single brake pedal which is linked to the front and rear brakes)

I owned a BMW R1250 GS Adventure with their version. I loved it as I could use the clutch or not use the clutch as it was not a true automatic. I can see more going this route or full automatic as the automatics in cars/trucks have now surpassed the manual in power delivery, fuel economy, etc. I prefer manuals, but see the end coming eventually.

I love both, I have 2 regular motorcycles and a Honda DCT

I've always liked automatic motorcycles. My reason is that I just don't like shifting because that's one less thing you have to concentrate on. I currently have a honda navi and a Can-Am Ryker.

The DCT has its ups and downs, but I enjoy my AT DCT. For fun corners, I put it in manual so I control the up/downshifts. Also, for riding dirt standing up, the paddles are AMAZING to shift with. I wish there was an option to have a half-width rear brake lever on the left handle when standing up, to be the ultimate in lazy offroad riding. ;)

I'm 50+ and I've been riding for 45+ of those years. The last 3 years I had to give up riding for health reasons; I couldn't handle the clutch anymore. So this option is a gift from (insert who you want here) I definitely prefer a clutch, but if this gives me the chance to get out there again, bring it on!! (Oh, and yes, they ARE motorcycles; I haven't seen a scooter win a pass against a Goldwing yet) 😀

As an older (58) Spyder rider with a semi-automatic (thumb-shift up, auto or manual down) transmission, I do feel that I'm able to focus on the ride more. If it were fully automatic (like the Ryker), I guess I'd be fine with it as well.

I like small displacement bikes. Part of that is the regular and constant shifting.

Not unless I have to ride a no clutch motorcycle I will stay with a clutch. I used to have a 5 speed toyota car. I miss the shifting, it makes it fun. It is what I grew up with. Of course this is my opinion.

The first automatic motorcycle I ever saw was a 500cc Honda, and it was specifically used as a funeral escort vehicle. At the time I didn't know if it was something marketed for that specific application or if they were more widely available. That was (gulp) about 35 years ago.

It’s a motorcycle. There was the same debate between old manual shifts and automatics. Change is hard for people. However the best part is that everyone can choose what they like. Automatics can be way more efficient, but this is going to be always up to the person. I love Spyders as my hip doesn’t allow or I don’t trust it to ride a very heavy bike, many don’t consider a Spyder a motorcycle.. I like touring, so the bikes I like are generally heavy. I also like that some bikes are getting ABS, Adaptive Cruise control, gyros for stability control etc. So bring on the tech, but give me the options to effect my tech I put on a bike. Let me manually change my shift points but for when I am just wanting to be lazy let it do the changes itself!

They are motorcycles and so are trikes. ( I even know of a company that makes a quad cycle) For the past five years I've been riding a 2014 Spyder RT Limit I love it, as I'll be 71 in few days. I also ride a 1999 Kawasaki Nomad, love it. On a good day I've done 200 miles on Nomad, past's 200 miles I would ride the Spyder. In my 63 years of riding, I've observed bad drivers are bad drivers, no matter what they drive.

I have a Rekluse auto clutch in my Harley. It’s semi automatic and allows me to ride without needing the clutch lever since I lost my left hand in Afghanistan.

I definitely think and automatic bike like the Africa Twin is a motorcycle and while I don't see myself buying one at this point in my life, who knows what the future holds. I'm currently dealing with painful osteoarthritis in my ankles and if it ever moves to my hands or if manual shifting becomes painful it's something I'd definitely consider rather than having to give up riding. I love that there are so many more options out there these days as it allows those who previously might not have gotten into motorcycles to try it out.

I own a DCT GoldWing tour , a 69 Cutlass Convertible, and a GMC Yukon Denali, all are Automatics, I also live in inner city Chicago so I really enjoy my DCT in traffic and urban situations, I can drive a stick but prefer my Automatics

Using cruise control is another topic my friends and I talk about. I don't have it on my Kawasaki Vulcan but I had it on 4 other bikes I had and I miss it.

Why not , if you are doing a Suburban commute with a lot of stop start traffic , or for what ever reason cannot handle squeezing a clutch lever, it means if you want to ride something other than a scooter you now can. Cars have had automatic type transmissions for a while, and they are in certain areas the most prominent transmission type for cars, because people especially in urban areas don't want to be dealing with pushing the clutch in, with stop start traffic and most have those paddle shifters so those who still want to shift gears can all without a clutch.

Anything that can do over 50mph is considered a "motorcycle" in my state. Kentucky for anyone who is wondering.

The issues I have are serviceability and reliability. Manual clutches are easy to change at home. DCT is a different level of dealer service. The rebel 1100 DCT struggled with oil leaks more than the manual. I do think DCT has tremendous low speed maneuverability potential.

I had the Honda Crosstourer 1200 DCT I loved it put it in sport mode and open it up and wow she moved did to tours around Europe from the UK on her and she never let me down the only issue I had was with the park brake bit that was my own fault for not using it and it sticking with lack of use

It is personal preference. Yes i think they are here to stay. I learned to drive on a manual transmission when I was a kid. Now you can't buy many vehicles that do not have an auto. Some Japanese manufacturers, sport cars, and Jeeps have manuals now. So I do think it is going to become even more prevalent in motorcycling.

I have never ridden a automatic but I can say that having one to commute back and forth to work in traffic sounds like a winner to me.

I have never ridden a DCT or an automatic motorcycle. I love shifting gears, but...... I realize things change and like others I don't like change but try to stay open to things. I think the same way about electric motorcycles. The idea doesn't really appeal to me but I can't say no. Haven't tried it yet. Whatever works for an individual is what works for them . Ride your own ride. Peace.

To be fair, I do have a 3 wheel motorcycle endorsement (Can Am Spyder), Semi-Automatic (you upshift by pressing the plus button, you hit the foot break and it’ll downshift for you), no problems for me (I can’t do clutch to save my behind), so I think DCT/semi-automatic motorcycles are considered motorcycles (I mean yeah, it’s different, but that doesn’t mean it’s made for everybody), a lot of people have their own preferences (so I do believe it comes down to other people/motorcycle riders being 2 way streets about the topic vs. egos). I love motorcycles and respect what it means, but I also believe that we can agree/disagree without getting heated

I like what BMW is bringing to the table with the option to switch between auto and manual. For off road I really like the feel of using a clutch but that may change if I spend more time on a dct

are dtc bikes scooters i would say they are all motorcycles depending on cc of the bike hear in Pennsylvania any thing over 50 cc is consider to be a motorcycle

I owned a 2018 Goldwing DCT and I loved it! Coming off a clutch bike and going to a DCT was an adjustment. Oh, but I loved the automatic shifting. I can spend more time enjoying the ride and being a defensive driver. I rode in Sport Mode because I wanted the higher revs for quicker passing and touring. Honda has perfected the DCT engine. My ride now is a BMW GSA. It is harder to go from an automatic back to a clutch, but I am not throwing down 950 lbs of bike.

I like your short format videos Jess please continue doing them. I am open minded to the automatic bikes. I know there have been times when I have been 'motor hiking' in stop and go traffic where an auto would have been perfect. So far, I am not impressed with e-bikes as my rides tend to be several hundred miles for the short ones and non that I have heard about have that kind of range. Might have to swing by a Honda dealership to check out the automatic bike, not that I need to add a new bike to the mix.

I have an 18 Goldwing with the DCT. Love it. For a bike like the wing it makes sense to me. I also have a 79 CBX honda, I would not want that to be an auto. In between I have a Spyder RT with the semi auto gearbox. All are different but all good.

I ride a Can Am Spyder which uses a paddle shifters. I know how to drive a standard but still really enjoy my Spyder.

A scooter is a motorcycle. I've never had one but I hope to get one some day. 😊

I rode 2 wheels, clutch, for a few decades. I'm older now and I ride 3 wheels with electronic clutch. Maybe it's not for everyone, but I like it a lot.

Hi Jess. I like all the opinions of people who don't understand how to use the DCT. I watched your video when you had the Goldwing and wanting a clutch. If you understood the user mode you wouldn't be saying that. Most sports cars are DCT for a reason,speed and control. Take someone that is proficient with DCT in the twisties and they will outrun a manual any day of the week. If you're into wheelies and burnouts you need a clutch. The person who basically rides for safety and occasionally goes fast then the DCT is a good way to go. Just my opinion since I own one. ❤
