RIP Bandit Boy 😭💔😭
We've lost a very special member of our BirdTricks Flock, and it took us a long time to be able to share it with all of you. I wrote more details in the following blog post for those of you that have unanswered questions about what happened: birdtricksstore.com/blogs/par...
Bandit died 12 hours after I noticed something was wrong.
We did not want to share anything pre-maturely without definitive answers, even though clear answers are something we have not been given. We are still searching and sharing our findings but the necropsy results came back inconclusive and the only thing the vets we consulted with do agree on are that it was not contagious, that it was a toxin of some sort, and that the other birds are not showing any symptoms. I wanted to make sure the necropsy results were back before we said anything, and that we could tell you all what the cause was but after waiting this long, it doesn't appear we will ever know that. And so all I can do is to do BETTER in areas that pose any sort of question in my mind. That's all we can ever do.

Although the sand didn't kill him, it was something we questioned being GOOD ENOUGH. How we kept our birds from going onto the sand/spending time down there (not that this is 100% effective but it's what we tried to do to limit it as much as possible, or discourage it):
- Constantly cleaned toy parts off the ground so they didn't go down to play with pieces
- Portion control with food so leftovers were less likely to get thrown below and then eaten (video here on this: • The Perfect Portion Fo... )
- Kept as many engaging toys and activities (fav perches) high up from the ground

I record most of my videos ahead of time and schedule them out - so I will still be posting videos on schedule as I already had them done before this occurred but I am unsure how long I will be able to keep that up as I did not produce anything while I've been mourning Bandit's loss. Spending time with my flock has been the most healing thing I can do for my soul right now... but it's really hard to do when I'm THIS emotional as I'm not as in tune with them as usual and it's a prime time for me to get bit because of that. My toucan Rocko has been the most helpful during this process for me... it's like he knows my soul aches right now and is helping me through.

Man I cant deal 😢😢😢 , rip bandit boy. This video just hits you in so many ways. These guys didnt just lose a pet. They just lost a family member.
Yall take quality care of your birds. Sometimes things happen. No one was to blame. Even human children are occasionally lost due to unforeseen and unavoidable incidents. Grieve. Thank you for the help you provide bird owners all over.
My grey passed away yesterday. She was 29. I’m just sick and somehow your video helped. I can’t stop crying. I’ve knew her longer than I’ve known my husband. Thank you for sharing this. It’s nice to know I’m not the only person who bawls like a baby about her bird. ❤️

Before you get the cement installed, please get the cement tested. God only knows what is in the cement. $120 to get that tested would be well worth the investment. Id hate to see you lose your flock. RIP Bandit. You are both good bird parents.

"it's almost like thier lifespan is a promise" that got me. You get a bird and in your mind your planning for what happens when YOU die, not them. And when they die it's so confusing.

I saw this and I knew I shouldn't watch it.. I knew I'd cry through the whole thing but I wanted to know what happened. So I'm sitting here crying like a baby about a bird that wasn't mine to be honest I think bandit was in the first video I ever saw of yours .. People just don't understand how it feels to gain the trust and love of a bird - it's not easy and it takes a lot of work to build that trust which you have done with all of your flock.. I absolutely get it... Praying for healing.....

Just so people know, especially Jamie and Dave. Bandit has helped me in some bad times. I watched old videos of him which made me laugh and helped me. Thank you Bandit. I will miss you even though we never met. You live on in my heart. You will live on through memories.
