Rings of Power's REPULSIVE Defence Tactics

Ойын-сауық

Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power reviews were not the exceptional praise that Amazon Prime Video desired. But what Rings of Power fallout has happened as the Tolkien fans have watched the new Lord of the Rings series? What reaction can we see from the companies involved and the media that surrounds them? And why do marketing companies always engage in these tactics when fans ask, is LOTR: The Rings of Power worth watching?

Reviews are out Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and the media response was exactly what everyone expected. But Prime videos response? I think I'm just surprised it took them this long to do what Star Wars did. But what do you think? Did you expect this line of defence? Let me know your thoughts below and as always, thanks for watching :)

This defense is a feature. A modern production can’t have an all white cast so there’s always the “if you don’t like it you’re a racist” attack ready to be unleashed. It immediately deflects from legitimate criticism and moves the discussion away from the movie, tv show, video game etc to something else entirely.

When I did freelance writing, a common job that would pop up was to be paid for positive reviews. Amazon was the most common client. There's a reason the positive reviews are a couple sentences vs the negative ones having several paragraphs of criticism.

I wouldn't be quite so dismissive, this is a very powerful social motivator these days. When things get polarized and people break down into camps many folks tend to follow whatever they feel their tribe is doing. What Amazon is attempting to do here is to show that the modern politically progressive and therefore righteous folks are enjoying the show. Think of it as if you were dealing with a religion. Why does Homer really go to church? He gets social pressure from Marge and the neighbors.

he makes sense, likely it is pressure, and Amazon will follow the perceived money. They don't actually care about LotR or the black hobbits or whatever. They are playing up to the people that want everything wrecked and blurred. Why not cast a plant? Next it would be a trans-gender elf, or whatever it is. Same deal, they wanna come appeal to the 5th genders and woke points of view. Not saying you cant be what you want, but i do think you shouldn't forcibly attach it to things you know people want to love.

What boggles my mind is how the writers and directors of the show were so desperate to make black elves and dwarves to expand on Tolkiens "limited imagination," and add diversity to Middle Earth, all the while completely ignoring the entire race of Easterlings and naturally dark skinned and would have been the perfect answer to this issue. Rather than trying to expand on the gaps in Tolkien's work, this seems more like a deliberate and "woke" misinterpretation of everything Tolkien.

As a brown person I find it absolutley appalling that as amazon suggests, I by definition would have the need to see ppl looking like me represented everywhere. It just makes no sense whatsoever, one needs to posess a great deal of narcissism and a hugely inflated ego for that to be true. Tolkien was my first introduction to fantasy and middle earth as a kid and I absolutley loved his books. This is not Tolkien this is an abomination turned into som woke jibberish. And calling anyone who doesent like it racist is utter nonsene, and frankly I find it very offending that they are posing liket they are taking a stand for me as a brown person for some in their made up head racism that does not exist. Love this dialogue from ep 3 (paraphrasing of course). Galadriel: The elves gave you this land. Queen: We earned this land with our blood. Galadriel: If blood is the price of passage, then I shall pay it. Bitch, that's not what she said! And how do you pay for passage with blood? Are you gonna die? Queen: You are welcome to try. Galadriel: I do not need your welcome. What?! What the hell does that even mean?!

  • @Konin300

    @Konin300

    Жыл бұрын

"we bought this island with blood" "Ok i pay blood for one boat" Come on that's not an unrealistic connection to draw. Where that blood is supposed to come from isn't made clear, I agree. But if you consider that they're speaking to someone who just listed all her military ranks, i'm sure the queen regent could come up with a target for Galadriel to get rid of. We've *just* heard of corsairs prowling the seas an episode earlier, it wouldn't be a far fetch to have her take care of some in the seas near numenor in exchange for passage. Hell, some of the most acclaimed fantasy RPGs use exactly that kind of logic consistently whenever their hero needs a favor or aid and nobody complains there usually. (Witcher 3 does this a lot with the Bloody Baron and people love that game for the narrative) It's only when the holy bible of fantasy is touched that people throw aboard all their experiences with the fantasy genre as a whole and try to see an issue in everything that they would normally accept at face value. The welcome-exchange was oddly written, I agree. They threw that one in so they could have the rude back and forth between the two to escalate the dialogue. "You are welcome to try" "I do not need your welcome" "And you are quickly wearing out yours" They went for the "rule of cool" here and wrote something up that sounds witty and clever, but kinda doesn't make a lot of sense if you think it through.

Proof it's their choice & they can make profit. If that behaviour was tried Amazon would get it's arse kicked from one end of the country to the other and they know it. Not to say individual employees try it now and then. My son worked for a fast food place when younger and the odd supervisor not much older would try that behaviour. A call to the head office had the area manager call personally to apologise and promise the behaviour would never be repeated. It can be done.

I come from academia (literally have a doctorate & spent many years in research) and this is 100% the case. The entirety of Western academia is just suffused with rampant, endemic, pompous leftist-woke ideology; it's why I left as it was getting bad even 15+ years ago, and it's killing academia too: _Genuinely highly intelligent people are leaving in droves as they get sick of this malicious and bankrupt anti-white, anti-male, leftist crap. What remains is a cadre of literally midwit activists who push this stuff and ostracize anyone who isn't on board as another member of their moral gestapo in-group. And as noted these "experts", who are literally the bottom of the barrel, are the dominant force teaching the marketing and PR folks for these companies._ And indoctrinating the next generations of woke activists, but that's slightly beside the point. FWIW from a random self-professed expert on the internet, Tolkien was not a racist. However he absolutely did intend LOTR as, and I quote, "a mythology for England" eg; whites. He would've also been sickened as to how these self-righteous global megacorps have perverted and subverted his work to push a leftist political message. *As a person, he was very much not on board with this ideology and the whole globohomo multicultural idiocy being pushed upon the Western world these days. Don't buy all this absurd nonsense about Tolkien being some proto-hero in the mulikulti movement! The man was literally a conservative Christian traditionalist! Personally and politically Tolkien's would've been loathed as an 'evil far-right racist white supremacist etc etc' if he were alive today, and indeed he absolutely, unequivocally despised the idea of his work being allegorical or used for political ends -- especially the left.* The man had no love for literal Nazis, but he hated extremists on the opposite side just as much. If we could harness the energy from how hard he's spinning in his grave right now, we could solve the fake 'climate crisis' in one shot. But what do I know? I'm just a deplorable, low-IQ, -ist -phobe on the internet.

The negative reviews actually talk about the story, characters, music, visuals, writing, things that actually matter about a story. Even the 3-4 star reviews actually have something of value to say. Attacking/shaming the fans has never been a good strategy for a marketing campaign for any project. All it does is alienate the fans who should be apart of hyping a new entry into a franchise. This strategy has failed with Ghostbusters 2016 through to the Obi-Wan Kenobi show. It has damaged franchises to the point where it will take them decades to recover or where they will never recover (SW, ST, Dr. Who). It's not working out well for Disney/Marvel with it's recent movies & shows. Their box office and views are on the decline. Attacking and shaming Tolkien fans over a show that Amazon knew was bad will not save it. Dragging the cast of Jackson's movies into the middle of this mess and censoring reviews will not save this show either. It aggravates the situation. As has been said repeatedly over the last 8 years, fans did make this show. Amazon and their bad decisions made RoP a disaster.

Seriously, an A-Level Business Studies student would know that a customer base have to be CONVINCED that the product is good NOT dismissed! Even old school marketing people would slap down ANY attempt to tell customers that their product is "not for them" - they would want EVERYONE to buy the product! I blame HR - you can't hire dropouts and think that they are "special": either hire the cream of the crop (and I speak from someone who missed out because I wasn't) or prepare for failure. (Seriously, if they hired me when I was a newb, one million pound account would definitely be lost because I didn't factor the sums right - gotta be able to learn from your mistakes but only if the company can let it go - some can't because reputation matters but those who do get loyal employees who are grateful for the lesson).

I worked in the gaming industry at one point in my career, working on a particular game. The game was targeted at PS2, XBox, and GameCube platforms. The original marketing buzz was that the game "could" sell $90 million of product across all three platforms. Marketing ran with that, development ran with that - the entire company ran with that. Unfortunately, such an ambitious project [it was the 4th in a franchise that had sold moderately well on previous platforms] put huge pressure on every department, from the development teams to the marketing teams to the PR teams, all talking up the game while development costs went through the roof! Ambitious features were added, and later cut, and then reworked, and then left behind. Thousands of hours of development never saw the light of day as the stress of releasing a "blockbuster" took its toll. Needless to say with cost overruns, marketing expenditures, and additional expenses the game went from "possibly" selling $90 million to HAVING to sell $90 just to break even! Well, it didn't. It was a mediocre title that had lackluster performance, and the company reorganized soon afterward. I wonder if the Rings of Power is not in a similar predicament. Between the expense of the IP, the marketing department's raising expectations, and the two or three "CGI Screenshots" that got everyone excited, it seems to have gone from "could be a great success" to "Has to be a great success!" And that's when you fail - success has to be organic, it cannot be mandated.

Some points why I think Tolkien was very progressive: * Ents being shepherds of the forests and attacking Isengard --> He advocates for environmental protection * Acknowledgment of differences in every race in every part of the known world, but also working together against a common enemy --> He promotes League of Nations / United Nations * Even if you are little (Hobbit) or female (Éowyn), you can change the world --> Believe in yourself So I think those "experts" are selling their souls, because those points stuck in my head after contact with his works. The result of the casting choices in RoP is that all of the races look pretty much the same. There's not sufficient uniformity to them for each race to be distinct. The showrunners want their series to reflect our world, and, unfortunately, they've succeeded. Elves look like humans with pointy ears; Dwarves look like short humans with big noses; Numenoreans look like every other human, except they've invented soap; 'Harfoots' look like short human vagabonds who are yet to invent the sewing needle. It makes the show look cheap, like a local thespian club who've put on a play at the scout hall and had to fill the cast with anyone they had.

  • @marychocolatefairy

I agree, and the Harfoots don't even look short. The way the Hobbits were cast and styled in LOTR, I could believe they were small beings even if bigger character weren't around. Nothing about the Harfoots suggests "small non human".

Eh, the dwarves look *really* distinct in this adaptation to any of the other races. Do you think removing the black dwarf and adding beards to the women would have "improved" this problem you are describing? Because the way I see it, if you really try you can dumb down *any* depiction of any race to a few outstanding features then go "they are basically just humans with X and Y". While I do think that the elves could have been translated better onto the screen (gaunt faces, taller), I find the Harfoots and Dwarves sufficiently distinct.

"She was then of Amazon disposition and bound up her hair as a crown when taking part in athletic feats." - Tolkien Her pride was unwilling to return, a defeated suppliant for pardon; but now she burned with desire to follow Fëanor with her anger to whatever lands he might come, and to thwart him in all ways that she could." - the Unfinished Tales "She looked upon the Dwarves also with the eye of a commander, seeing in them the finest warriors to pit against the orcs." "Galadriel, striving to counteract the machinations of Sauron... he perceived at once that Galdriel would be his chief adversary" "She was proud, strong, and self-willed, as were all the descendants of Finwë save Finarfin.." 1954 literature a bit too modern for you.

@The13thRonin and the orcs all raged and cried together. Why are all these diverse groups against us? How dare the hobbit's and elves and dwarves come together allegorically? They can't do that with our brilliant understanding of literature! And so they continued to chop down trees and poop everywhere.

This LOTR series will be epic and live on as a legend once the internet gets ahold of it and redubs all of the dialogue into something insanely funny.

I love The Rings of Power, it's provided me with so much rich entertainment and I haven't even watched it. All I have to do is go on KZread and relax while real Tolkien fans tear it apart. It's kind of like a bloodsport where nobody gets hurt, either that or a public post mortem. Well worth that billion dollars I'm sure.

Thank you for the super thanks London, appreciate it :) And the channel already is, that's how you can send the super thanks. It was funny with this video, soon as I posted it I heard of a recent Forbes article that would have fitted in perfectly. But given the length already, probably for the best.

This is what happened. It's pretty simple. Bezos and Amazon wanted a quick cash grab and didn't give a lick about Tolkien's legacy or his fans. They wanted to seize upon the present climate of a surging popularity of fantasy themed material and identity politics. They acquired the rights to material that had already been adapted brilliantly by Peter Jackson and endeavored to feed the subscribing masses with vague and poorly planned plot lines based on peripheral source points from those rights. One prime example is Halbarad. This is a name that only comes up once in Tolkien's tales. He is a fellow Dunedain with Aragorn. He is a ranger in The last half of the Third Age. He may have been told tales of Numenor, but only after it had sunk into the sea a few Millenia ago. This is just a small example of many wrongs perpetrated by the writers who have the balls to associate their creation with anything written by Tolkien. I have no problem with creative license. Just don't peddle your product with a brand name that misleads the public. Where I come from that is called a con.
