I just went to see the new circus without animals-it was not the same. I do miss them but understand how difficult it must have been to keep using them.

That's the way it used to be. People couldn't afford animals, and when you're in a small town, 1900 Midwest America, starved for entertainment. You looked forward to it. They only started using animals because most people back then had never seen them in real life... then they never saw them do tricks... then they became animal conscious. As they should. But they only kept the animal tricks based on tradition. They don't really need them anymore. America's Got Talent has kind of proven that.

To be truthful, whenever I attended a circus with animals in it, I didn’t mind them being used for show biz, but it was only as long as on the condition they were never abused and always well cared for. I now realise that animals are not getting the proper respect they so richly deserve. When the animals were whipped or jumped through burning hoops, I cringed and thought they should use something softer, like a rubber whip or something like that. In Madagascar 3, Vitaly the Tiger poured hair conditioner over himself and he jumped though a hoop unharmed. I thought that should work more often in real life. I also watched a short movie about a circus bear who was born in the circus and grew up in the circus and therefore was the star of the circus. Although he loved performing and all the audiences’ applause, the owners of the circus treated him rather shabbily and he yearned for freedom. His wish came true much later after the beginning. This goes to show that deep down animals do love performing at circuses but just can’t take too much abuse.

Poking with the hook...elephant labour and mother is on a chain, poke with the hook, and can not be with her calf. They took it away. I saw a video of the calf, it was drowned and they poke it with the hook then...too too sad, but that poor thing was saved by the circus and chains Animal abuse it is...

@@howardmatkins5803 Yes I also agree that PETA did their part but they are not as powerful as people give them credit for because they have been trying to get Sea World closed for years and they probably have more support behind them on the not having Orcas and dolphins in captivity issue.

They practiced 20/7. They were extremely skilled and went routine and routine. They didn't have anxiety because they did typically 5 shows a day and were confident in their skills.

This looks pretty mediocre to be honest. And as someone who didn't even know they existed before learning about them while reading Robert Wadlow's history, I say that without any kind of bias. The acrobatics are really not that impressive and quite stupid, the stuff with the animals is frankly just silly(making kangaroos jump obstacles, really? wow, so impressive right, who would've guessed kangaroos can jump?), and overall it feels like it just couldn't keep up and update themselves. It feels like a product of its time, more worth for the historical aspect than for its entertainment value.

The tigers and lions reactions when the stick gets near them just shows that they're afraid of it and are ready to attack it after various beatings from it surely. No sane animal would react that badly to a stick grazing them gently, they know it hurts

My mother was a dancer in the AG Barnes circus in the late 1920's. Unlike Ringling, each performer was in charge of an animal. They were to make sure the animal was fed,watered & exercised. My mom's animal was Babe, the elephant. Babe had been stolen from her family as a baby. My mom loved her. My husband and I were in Honolulu when an elephant got startled after being shipped to Hawaii and the elephant injured several people as she made her escape and ran down Queen Street. She was shot dead. They used her story, part of it in a Hawaii 5-0 show, People got scared and any circus that performs in Honolulu now does not use elephants or any other large animals. Thank goodness, Ringling finally bowed to pressure and stopped the elephant shows.

Absolutely correct. These beautiful animals do not need to be torn away from their natural habitat . Elephants stay in the wild with their extended family. They are taken from their mothers when they are very young, and tortured into submission. It’s horrible. Thank goodness, they banned these animals from the circuses here in the USA.

I used to perform with the bands when they used live performers. While I agree that animals belong in the wild and the wild protected from human development, I can say from seeing with my own eyes that behind the scenes, these animals are loved and cared for by their keepers. If you did’t know Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey circus did not abuse there animals they have used voice commands since the 1960s.

Can't believe I was born into the generation that got to see the circus live before it died...this was great, thanks for uploading. Now I can go back and relive the experience.

I personally just wanted to see what they were like, since I only saw 2 live and I was very young, but your comment got me curious.

I so miss Ringling Bro's Barnum & Bailey Circus! Awesome family entertainment and darn good people.

I guess it was only a matter of time before the whining liberals got their way and destroyed the Circus industry, 'Cancel Culture' at its finest! So sad, very few of the things that existed in America and the West in general that I experienced as a youth in the '50's & '60's even exist any longer, all destroyed in the name of 'Political Correctness', disgusting!

Human beings performing on their own doesn’t impress me. Seeing animals do things you’ve never seen before is part of what makes the circus stand out. Without them, it’s just another stunt show

Also to add some of these animals are born into captivity so releasing them into the wild where they haven’t lived for a long would be dangerous for the animals.

Seriously, in the comments I see people only complaining on "how cruel" Circus is to animals. I thought that too for a while, and while that might be true for some circuses who don't have enough money to afford proper treatment of their animals, there are also great circuses who greatly care for their four legged companions and they are feeling WELL there. Everyone who is complaining that the big cats for example should be returned back to the wild are completely forgetting that most of the big cats in the circus are actually BREED in captivity, there is NO "returning to the wild", since they have been used to humans and been trained from the very beginning! Please people, INFORM YOURSELF FIRST, before just parroting other people who might have heard something from another person a while ago or who are self declared "animal protectors! I am very sad that this circus shut down. It was one of the best circuses I've ever witnessed, even though I sadly was never able to see it live. The circuses in our country, they suck. They don't have money to properly treat their animals, I wouldn't support them, but this circus did everything right! The animals there were very properly taken care of, you can see that.

Shadow Paladin How exactly do you think the animals were trained, though? You think the animals did what they were told of their own free will? Though bred in captivity, they are still wild animals and wild animals have to learn to be submissive to their humans. How do you think that’s done exactly? I know exactly how they are trained, do you? Do you see the tigers growling at the man in the cage? Do you know what keeps them from attacking the man? That whip! Those animals were taught to fear that whip and they know exactly how much that whip hurts! So, maybe these animals were fed and given medical care, but they were abused and there isn’t a damn thing you can say to defend the fact that they abuse animals to train them!

So breeding them in captivity, living in cages, trained to entertain idiots is not cruel? Whatever you need to tell yourself. Even if they are properly taken care of, it is not the life an animal deserves. I seriously doubt all these wild animals were trained without any pain. YOU need to inform yourself.

When I attend the cirrus I saw no animal being treated bad, no animal was looking unhealthy they look more healthy than the animals in many homes I been too. I seen so many talented animals that have been trained to do many tricks hat they do not do in the wall. how many animals have you seen that can stand on their Hines legs an dance around and even pray. why is it so easy for people to sit back and hide behind there computer and spread rumors. I can guarantee the one that do it have never been to one show or maybe they just cant afford the cost it expensive but well worth it

Curque de soleil is just at different level then any other circus in my opinion. What I saw is good, but thats about it.
