    Thank you for this - really helpful...never had training on ringing the bell in my church and rang it for 1st time this morning for Morning Prayer. Only got it ringing. a couple of times but I had the technique all wrong and was exhausted afterwards! Will have another go this evening using your technique.

    My church has a old bell sitting in the steeple for decoration they don't ring it because there is no rope attached but since my church is older I can tell it's original

    Sadly, so many teachers do not show and demonstrate the physical mechanics and structure of the bell and its frame within the tower. At least the Student will have some idea as to what is going on on xfeet above their head.

    So towards the end as you're getting to the balance point, are you pulling on both the sally and the back stroke?

  • @paulsharples6716

    @paulsharples6716

    Жыл бұрын

    Exactly. Some ringing teachers use ringing a bell up as the key to putting both strokes together, since you are doing both by the end. The real trick is knowing when to start easing up on the strength of the pull. Practice makes perfect.

    God Bless you. I really miss the sound of Church Bells. Especially in the old country white Churches of old. It is so hard to find any small Churches today that still operate a bell to welcome the lost to hear the Gospel. If I was rich I would pay the costs to add a bell to as many Churches as I could regardless of denomination. Children today need to hear it and to operate it. The appointed time to ring the bell is a great way to introduce babes in Christ to the Prophecies concerning the Appointed Times of the last days climaxing with the time of Jesus' Return.

  • @RingerPeter

    @RingerPeter

    3 жыл бұрын

    It is dangerous in the up position because when the bell swings down the weight of the bell and the gravity pulling on the bell makes the bell 4x heavier and if you get hit by a bell in the up position moving it could and probably will kill you. If you are not experienced you would have no control over the rope and you could be dragged up to the ceiling. Or the rope will fly about in result someone could get hurt.

    To explain that a little further, the Stay (which as stated above, holds the bell in place when it is Up) would be broken by the momentum of the bell. After the stay is broken there is noting to stop the bell swinging so it would just keep swinging on its wheel until it looses all its momentum and returns to the 'down' position.

  • @paulsharples6716

    @paulsharples6716

    @@dhtelevision Only if there is enough energy in it. An experienced ringer will be putting just enough energy into each pull so the bell will go up to the balance on each stroke. If you miss the sally, then it would either set, or bounce back and simply carry on ringing.

  • @10walke

    @10walke

    late reply I know, but its mostly for safety, if a non-ringer pulls the rope while the bell is up then it could hurt them, and also do damage to the bell and stay (piece of wood the bell rests on). if the bell is down it is 'safe', ie you cant hang yourself or damage anything
