Thanks for taking the time to put together a very informative video for people thinking about getting the Ring Doorbell. They are fairly easy to install. I’ve had mine for six months and can’t imagine not having one now. I’ve been at Disneyland and talked to someone at my door 50 miles away. I love this technology.

Thanks for the excellent review. In regards to the latency, it's not always the fault of the Ring devices. Every time I had noticed any latency was when my wifi network was having issues. Once I had sorted out the wifi issues, Ring worked flawlessly. I have also found that if the power drops out, then any activation would work from the device, but I wouldn't get notifications from my mobile phone. My ISP can be unreliable at times, especially since we had upgraded from ADSL to NBN. I often have internet connection issues, which will stop phone notifications, but the devices within my wifi zone, will continue to work flawlessly. My only device issues are with the Ring Floodlight Cam. It often goes off for no reason, possibly because with a breeze, the rose bushes move. Supposedly the infra red sensors don't pick up on plants, but there's no other explanation that I can come up with. A feature that the Video Doorbell has, which is an excellent option, is the smart option, which basically pauses the detection for about half an hour when it detects something similar. That's excellent, especially when one of us is in and out. The Floodlight Cam doesn't have this feature, and it gets very annoying when it constantly goes off every time one of us comes into range.

I have the original ring now for a year. It was hard wired to the house and worked great. Now, there must have been an upgrade, as it's no longer wired to the house and the inside chime stopped working. I called my ADT carrier and they now use ring and are coming to upgrade me to ring 2. One question what does the Wi-Fi extender do? Since we switched from xfinity to att man do I regret that! Thanks great video.

Hi, can i ask you, if i wired my ring device to an existing chime, would the issue go away in regards of 5 sec delay with the wireless chime? I want to make sure that when someone does press the bell, even if the video dont work, i can still use it as a normal bell without any delays! At the moment i have a chime, which is wired to a normal standard bell.

Good review, I just installed my Ring doorbell today. Had problems attaching the base to my external stucco wall as it was not flat. Ended up using the red industrial double stick similar to what you showed in the video. I have noticed video latency issues after the device detects motion or somebody pushes the doorbell but I believe mine might be due to my slow DSL connectivity. (7mb down/600kb up) I am also considering moving the wifi/router closer to the doorbell as well. The interior construction of the old stucco wall may be hindering the wifi signal and since I don't have a way to measure signal gain/loss unless I can find a iOS or android app.

Thanks so much for this comprehensive review. $199 is a lot of money (in my current situation) so I wanted to be sure it was going to work as promised. I also live in a rental so the double stick tape idea is a great option. I'm going outside to check my wifi strength now- it was a big concern for getting this to work and I never thought of the obvious checking it with my phone. Thanks again for the helpful info.

Good Video. my ring is place on my aluminum siding. Do you think I need to do the double sided tape. Because I notice that video don't come on instantly it take a few minutes. I do have good wifi around the house because I have several cameras. Also I use to have the DoorBell Fon DP-28IT Door Answering and I want to used the wire installation from that with a plug in transformer. have you tired that yet.

I just have to say the outdoor double sided tape was clutch! I went to drill the holes and there was metal behind the stucco. Fortunately I had watched your vid right before I went to do it so I didn't even stress or waste time... Ran to Lowe's and boom My doorbell is up and feels pretty solid. (supposedly rated at 30 lbs, but if someone is putting that much shear force on my doorbell they are trying to break it...)

My doorbell sits on a narrow frame, making me wonder if I'd be able to even install this using the existing wires. Does the back plate have other options that would accommodate this issue? I'd hate to drill into my brick.

Thank u it is easier than what I thought especially about the 2 sided sticky tape my husband does not like to drill anything into the outside walls so thanks about that tape also I thought I had to connect it to my doorbell so it is nice that I don’t have to do that, all I have to use is the plug-in chime. So thanks again

Hi, can this doorbell be viewed from your phone if nobody is there and no motion was set off? As in, you can just view what is outside of your house at any given time even when nothing is causing it to send you a notification? Also, can you take a still photo of the person at your door if you decided you wanted to? Thanks for your response!

I haven't seen any people ask this, you said that other people can get notified too. Does that mean they can also answer the doorbell? If so, what happens if multiple people try to answer at the same time? I only ask this because if someone were to have a family of 5 or so and wanted everyone to have a way to answer if someone else is busy.

I have an odd (perhaps) 🤔 question?! My neighbor just installed one & our townhomes are quite close to each other, so can they hear our conversations on a regular now? Like when we're on our pathway, driveway, or garage? In other words, how strong is the audio "pickup"? Besides their motion detection picking up OUR every move now, do they get to hear OUR personal conversations now too? 🙄

Do you get the video saved to the cloud ONLY on pressing the doorbell, or do you also get video saved to the cloud from the motion detector.....I have had the unfortunate experience of someone stealing packages off the doorstep, and they DID NOT ring the doorbell 1st.

So, I have bought a "Doorbell 2". There are some bugs. If it detects that it the environment is dark to some degree, when motion causes the camera to activate, or if I enable Live View, it will capture in Grayscale with infrared LEDs. No color video. That's fine. But if say I have the doorbell in my room with the lights on (or if it was installed outside and it was daytime), and the camera activates, it records in COLOR. That's fine. But then as it is capturing in color, then, I place the doorbell in a dark place, by shutting off the lights. PROBLEM - in a completely dark environment in color recording mode (no infrared LEDs on), the video is very stuttery. 1 or 2 frames per second. If i put in just a bit of light, such as I stop blocking the blue rotating LEDS on the doorbell with my hand, then the video is smooth again. I block it out, video is very very choppy. Not sure if that is a computational problem where it is attempting to do math for detection or for video quality. Also, it will not switch from color/day to black and white (LEDs)/night on the fly. The camera has to shut off and then another event happen. Finally, no HD video. Looks like it is about 360p. Internet connection is good with a 50MbPS Comcast connection close to a high end router. Battery in the device is at about 50% and not hard wired yet. So, I HOPE it is just because the battery isn't fully charged & not hard wired.

ring works great on my metal storm door, you need a decent router (mine is the Asus rt-ac3200) or purchase a ring chime pro WiFi extender.

I have the same stucco wall as u. I drilled and used the screws. But I can not get the front cover on now. just will not go down and lock in place. is this why u used the tape?

+Dr. Prepper I didn't even attempt to drill. My landlord didn't want any holes and so the tape was the next best thing. Try that and just cover the holes you already drilled and everything should work out ok.

+Dr. Prepper I have stucco wall as well, and had the same problem at first. My issue was I had screwed the attaching screws in too tight, and this caused the mounting bracket to bend ever so slightly, and changed the flatness of the bracket. try backing off the screws slightly and this should flatten out the bracket and the doorbell can now snap in place.

I just installed my ring, it worked the first time, but tried it the second time, I don’t get any notification, my phone does not ring, my chime does not ring! Ugh! What am I doing wrong? What can I try? The ring only rings outside... and another question well if I get it to work, if I click live view shouldn’t I be able to look outside at anytime? Just have no clue why it won’t work, we have great WiFi. Thanks.
