About Magnetic Games:
All ways to have fun with magnets.
The magnetism has always intrigued me. The strength of the magnets is scientifically explainable but there's something "magical" about its interaction with the world. My Channel offers you curious experiments and fun games to do with magnets.

You want to hear something messed up. I used to love playing with magnets when I was little. We had a folding metal picnic table. It was perfect for my magnets. I collected magnets everywhere I could circa 1963-4. Somewhere I got my hands on some mercury. Yeah, that's right, that toxic stuff. I had a blast pulling it around, on the top of that table. I didn't have any parental supervision in those days. I was the youngest of four in a dysfunctional household.

When I was a child, one kid brought a small ball of mercury to schools and he played with it in class and he showed us all how cool it was. We didn't know it was toxic back then. I'm actually now wondering if it is as toxic as we now think it is. I've seen youtubers playing with it as well.

So long as it stays on your skin it's okay. You don't want it getting into your body tho

@@Francoisdp82most people playing with "mercury" on KZread are actually playing with gallium, looks similar but is actually safe. I would be willing to bet that's what the kid brought in, since even a bit of mercury can cause skin irritation.

    Is Mercury magnetic?

Kids still play with mercury. I cracked open a mercury thermometer out of curiosity myself. Seems that the dangers of it are massively overstated. It's a toxic heavy metal that won't want to leave your body but it's not that easy for it to enter your body in the metallic form anyway. As long as you're not eating mercury salts and playing with mercury in a small unventilated room then it poses no immediate danger.

I wonder if you could tune the magnets vibration using a combination of stacking the base magnet and using thin shims between the base and vibrating magnets. Would be really cool to see if you could actually get enough notes to play a song

Note that unless you're using some very specific structures, this would give sliding notes rather than normal notes. Doesn't mean you can't make music, you'd just have to take that into account and make different music.
