Hey guys, I know I mounted it high. I wanted a higher camera angle. This thing weighs next to nothing, and the adhesive is getting the job done. :)

But the camera is on a hinge type of thing… it moves up to be able to get a higher angle. Just installed mine, and moved the cam up and gave a “higher angle “ ….

“Higher perspective” is exactly what I meant. Thank you for speaking “Donnie.” :) Yes! I’m all about not having a car payment for as long as possible. This car is now 12 years old, but it was entry level premium at the time and it’s still in good shape. In my 5.5 years of ownership I’ve only had to (knock on wood) do standard maintenance like brakes, tires, oil, belts. I’ll take it!
Man, Ring just loves their 1080p. I can’t believe they are not rolling out 4K

thanks for the great review. got mine today and it only took a few minutes to install and hide the wires with the great tool as you mentioned. easiest setup ever. looking forward to using it.
So I installed mine with the bottom attachment because I thought you had to. It was sticking but I noticed from the outside that only half of the adhesive was on the windshield. After seeing your video, I removed it and now have a full adhesion. It’s a good thing it came with extras!
Yea, I preordered mine, loving it. Since I forget where I park at times, the gps search function is perfect for me.
I pre-ordered and was very excited for this Ring Car Cam. The first day, it worked so great and seemed too good to be true, and it was. After the first day, the camera kept shutting off by itself to "preserve the battery" of the car, even though my car battery was fine and I literally just drove my car for hours. So without the ability to do parking mode and no alternative way to connect the device via hardwire, and no internal battery inside the camera for some odd reason (the normal Ring cams for the house have batteries inside that last for months so I am just at a complete loss for words at how dumb this set up is) I returned the device, which was difficult since, having pre-ordered it, it kept saying that I was past the 30 day return period. I had to call multiple times to get a return label emailed to me. I have yet to receive the money back. I'm not paying for the subscription if I don't get to use parking mode, and without the subscription you can't download videos and the device is basically useless. This was such a huge letdown that could have easily been avoided if they would just use their brains at Ring. Why make the powering of the device so lame? That is a huge deal.
Amen! Amen! Amen! I absolutely can't wait until I finish paying off my car because I have the same view that you do. I'm going to drive it untill the wheels fall off. 🤣 With that said, great video. I'm supposed to get my ring car cam delivered tomorrow. I'm looking forward to testing it out.
@TechWinnerCC

Love it!
I received my cameras today. Ring says the weight of the camera should be supported by the dash, and not by the mounting strip on the camera. There is a gap cover that you place over the bottom of the camera where it plugs in (depending on the thickness from your dash to your windshield), then you snug it between the dash and windshield, and lastly, press the mounting strip into the glass. The way you've mounted it, the camera could possibly fall causing damage to the camera or your car. Even if the camera view is somehow obscured by your hood when mounting it correctly, you should follow the Ring installation instructions, then inform everyone about the possibly of the view being obscured.
Thank you for this video and your feedback. I pre-orders last month and received it yesterday. Look forward to the installation tomorrow and yes agree I'm also OCD when it comes to any cable showing. I would be glad to pay $100 more if it was completely cable-free just the OB2 plug-in with blue tooth connect with the dash cam/phone app

Certainly all doable through software updates if Ring invests in them. They have a great track record with improving existing hardware, so I would certainly suggest reaching out to them. I’m sure some are seeing these comments as well.
Hi great video one thing that no one mention or show on reviewing this dash cam is that can it read license play while you driving day time and night time?and what quality you get ? this will be the deal breaker for me to buy this camera. again great video is just missing more info about what the canera can do or not do.thanks anyways
You video helped me to understand the product. I live in the wild of Montana and my windshield gets broken at least twice a year and is always replaced. The glue on the Ring cam window tab is strong. My question is how do I remove it when the window has to be replaced [so as not to break the ring unit] and does Ring sell the glue tab for this kind of replacement. Thanks, Ken

Appreciate your insightful review. In fact after watching, I picked one up at Best Buy on my way home. Installation on my AMG Mercedes was straight forward, the extra cord slack took most of the install time to tuck to the undercarriage of the steering column. I look forward to testing the features during my am commute to work. Does the 30 day trial for Protection Go need to be activated?

Nothing to activate on the 30 day trial.
I live in Florida and my camera is protected (somewhat) from the sun by the tinted strip at the top of the windshield. Are there any concerns about the issue of direct sunlight and therefore heat on the camera if the vehicle is left out side for hours. Have not seen any comments about that. Might not be an issue but I wondered your thoughts.
Good luck getting one i have to wait till July shipping has been pushed back twice already with a preorder too

Cleaner install is using the additional snap on piece at the end it enables you to have the cord come back through it towards the port..... Also instead of sticking it to the windshield where you did push the end portion all the way into the dash way better

Great video. I’m curious if there is a disclaimer from Ring as there are states that it is illegal to mount things to your wind shield. I live in Virginia and it isn’t allowed. You most likely will not get pulled over for it but during yearly safety inspections, your vehicle will fail due to the camera. Please make sure your state will allow it. Thanks

A couple of notes from my setup: Try to be near your wifi hotspot when first setting up. Also, scan the bottom of the camera before you install. The QR code is not able to be seen once you mount it. Finally, the "frequent" mode for recordings eats a lot of battery. I drive my car every day, not for very long distances, and my camera is telling me at least once per day that the camera has gone into standby. I've been very happy with my car cam. I have an escort radar detector/camera in my other car and the car cam is far superior in terms of usability.

Use a sun shade
So, can you just plug the USB-C into a USB-C port to power it? I wonder how well this will hold up in the summer when a sunshield is placed on the windshield and the sun bakes it. Pretty bummed about the adhesive - we have ceramic tint on our windshields and I don't want to stick anything to it.
Is it easy to come off if you require a sunshade in the tx heat?
Seems like a good little camera, but the Ring membership thing is the immediate turn off. Probably fine for people who are already using a Ring doorbell, but kind of a step in the wrong direction for a product that has never needed more advanced storage options. I'd also question the mounting solution there. Didn't see mention what adhesive is used here (i.e. 3M VHB tape), but it's one of those things that will definitely fail in hotter regions like mine.
had issues with getting it to install was stuck at connecting to car cam... screen so not happy i will be returing this and keeping my orginal cam that i already had installed
Nice review, I have gone through 3 different dash cams and they all have failed in the Texas HEAT. Fine hair line cracks around the lens, bulging of the case, melting of buttons, glitch recordings, having color issues, haze around recordings, connectivity issues...etc. All within the year to 2 years of usage. I'm still hoping some company will develop a robust dash cam that can withstand the Texas heat.

The big problem that I am seeing with this Ring protect go plan is that it is only 2gb of LTE data. That is only 4 hours of video. You will go though that 2gb of LTE in less than a week and have serious overage charges. You have to opt in to LTE overage charges when you purchase the ring protect go. We need to have a way to chose wether or not our recording auto upload. Great video, great info. P.S. local storage is 7 hours and it re-writes over the old stored video in 1 hour blocks.

My big problem so far is that you can't playback recorded or live video from the web client due to the CODEC they are using.

Fair annoyance.
the product says it should only be used with driver's side OBDII port, but the USB-C is on the right side. Was it designed by a marketing major?

I thought that too. But the cord is real long and the usb port and the plug in get tucked away in the dash anyways
Looking at your sample video, it looks like this has the same problem as most dash cams in that the video quality is just horrible. I could not read the license plates of the cars that you were passing or behind. Did you find that in the actual recordings or was this an artifact of putting the recordings into the video?
I’m sold. Also I recognize that city skyline!

@@TechWinnerCC Nashville.
I had a Kenwood dash cam using OBD Port, and it killed my car battery in a month. I hope this doesn’t happen to Ring customers, I’m going to wait a couple of months to pick this up.

How old was your car battery prior to that happening?
