Ring Alarm Update Fire Alarm - Things You Need To Know

Ойын-сауық

Today will be a short video about my Ring Alarm and the Fire Alarm incident that happened this week. Now, this is a false alarm (wife cooking) which it got too smoky inside the house that it triggered my wired smoke alarms and also the First Alert Z-Wave Smoke and CO Detector that is linked to my Ring Alarm. I'll show you how Ring's monitoring station handled the alarm and things you need to know especially if you have the Ring Alarm and what are you going to expect when an Alarm incident happens.
I'll also be showing the settings in the app that you can change and not change on the alarm responses from Ring which is different when it is a Fire Response like smoke alarm, CO alarm or a Police response.

Useful review. You also need to add Ring as a Contacts "Favorite" so if you have Do Not Disturb turned on it will come through as long as you've set your settings to pass through Favorites (this is in iOS). Yes, I checked when I put my system in to see if the number is always the same and was informed it is. I've had a couple of alarms that we accidental and I caught right away and was able to verify that the Ring number stored in my Contacts is still the same. Look in your recent calls to get the number as it's obviously not the same as their normal contact number.

The EXACT same situation happened with me and my wife last night, except I was home and the smoke "hit" my old Simplisafe detector and didn't get to the First Alert (Ring) one. So, no call from Ring. But, I was explaining to my wife what would happen if it DID hit the Ring one, and it looks like I was wrong (I also mentioned your community post to her). THANK YOU for posting a video on this! I was unaware of their "flowchart" for a fire. I figured that I would get a call first, and then she would as well. I kind of wish there was an option, like the police one, to call at least 2 numbers first.

I use the "Only when I say so" setting because I go hiking a lot, and am frequently out of cell phone range. I also have two pets and a wife, so the risk of false alarms is higher than the risk of an actual active robbery or home invasion that is also not scared of the loud alarm noise.

Cool. Our first false alarm, we were driving home from work when we got a call from our security provider. We just had a big thunderstorm. We got home to find the street lined with fire trucks. There was no smoke so they didn't kick my front door in. But the FD walked through the house to make sure everything was OK. We had several more false alarms before getting it fixed. Turned out to be a faulty smoke detector that was triggered due to close lightening strikes. Weird!

I have learned a lot from your videos. I started with a Ring Video doorbell a few years ago after someone tried to force entry into my home. Come to find out there had been an attempted home invasion two hours before not far from where I live. They got away there and got away here because neither of us had cameras. It freaked my son out. One second I have my firearm drawn. The next second I was sitting and joking with the police. I was calm. The bad guys ran as soon as they heard the cars coming. My son got to witness a textbook coordination between myself and the police. Then on another day, someone opened packages that had been sent to me. The Ring didn't pick them up because they crouched down. I watched a series on thieves. One showed someone breaking into a home and it took 20 seconds. He broke a window and removed the stick keeping the window from being opened. He jumped in. The reason he didn't go through the doors was because they had deadbolts and steel doors along with reinforced frames. Then I went to see my granddaughter and the other set of grandparents who had purchased Wyze cameras because their oldest daughter had them and she was married to a computer tech. So I ordered them. Here is where your videos came in. My Wyze camera outside was taking anywhere from 4 to 28 seconds to notify me that someone had been near my door but it never caught a photo and the videos didn't show anything. It was like it had been asleep and woke up after the person had left. My Ring only showed their back as they were leaving. The latency was killing me. I had tried everything. It was like it worked when it wanted to. So I started watching your videos and liked what I saw with Eufy. So I ordered a Eufy C2. I then decided to test them. I have the test on my channel. As soon as I walked out the Eufy went off, then the Ring, then the Eufy, then the Eufy again and then Wyze. Needless to say, Eufy topped the others. Eufy watched people driving in and catches them at the top of the stairs coming towards my front door. I am happy with it. Thanks for posting your videos.

I'm not American so that's interesting to know how it works there. Over here if you call the firefighters and there isn't an actual situation you get charged for it always, and it's not cheap, and if they think there has been negligence or ill intent they might even legally prosecute you. They'd never automatically send a fire truck and they'd need some kind of human confirmation that there's an actual fire.

02:42 This is also just like how you should never pull fire alarm pull stations in public buildings unless there's a fire as you'll get charged with a fine from the fire department and some rules say that if you do it repeatedly or once (with getting caught) then you get a penalty fine for doing that with you going to jail Pulling malicious fire alarms in buildings is dangerous for the building population if its a building that has the same occupants every day like a school or apartment because they can gain common sense and not evacuate because it's always a false alarm as if it's real they can die and it also distracts the fire department from responding to other emergencies which is why you should only pull one if there's a fire as they're rare to happen and they don't distract the fire department from responding at all

One time my wife forgot to disarm the alarm and left to go to work. The alarm triggered and my phone was on vibrate but at work I didn't realize Ring tried to call and I was walking around with the phone in my pocket and didn't feel the vibration. Later on I saw the notifications on the phone and saw that the police were called and did shown up but the gate and front door were locked. They ended up leaving. I did call ring and tell them what happened. I wasn't too happy about the police or Ring never tried to get ahold of me again. Also noticed the siren will shut off after a certain time, which is why the police probably left as they didn't hear anything and noticed everything was locked.

Just so everyone doesn’t have unrealistic expectations on police response for alarms. When an alarm goes off it is not dispatched as a burglary in progress. It is dispatched as an alarm and is not handled as a priority. If you live in a place where the police are kept busy it might be hours before they are able to come and check in your house.

I have an uncommon situation where I can’t have a mobile phone with me at work. As a result, and due to Ring’s policy of calling only the first contact in some cases, I setup a Google Voice number that will automatically forward calls to my mobile, work & home phones at the same time (yes, I still have a landline :p). Only Ring has this Google Voice number. I also have the Ring Monitoring Center’s phone number in my contacts with emergency bypass turned on (as others have suggested doing). All of this helps reduce the chance of missing their call & the setup didn’t cost a thing. How would it have helped in this situation? If I missed the call, my wife or son could have answered the home phone & canceled the alarm.

It depends on your local rules/laws and regulations. I am only allowed ONE false alarm per year and pay NO fees. After that I believe for me it's a 50-75 dollar fine. This mat have changed since all this COVID stuff took place! Call your local authorities as they will answer this for you.

Depends on where you are and your local rules! I get ONE false alarm per year and pay no fee after that they will charge you for a trip to your house. I called Police and Fire around me and easily answered this question for me as they are well informed of Ring.

If you have Amazon SHOW/DOT devices these will work with Ring and send you alerts but will NOT trigger the alarm but send you a notification to your phone if it detects strange noises like glass breakage. It's called Alexa Guard and is free with Ring 24/7 monitoring. I have this integrated into my Ring setup and it's getting better and better all the time. Google it! "Alexa guard"

Because everyone is different preferences are based on individual needs/wants and how much you want to pay a month for it! I'm not saying one way or another system to chose. There are MANY systems that offer great choices depending on YOU! I'm NOT being paid for my opinion nor trying to dictate to anyone which setup to buy. That should be your choice. @@quacktony That's why you have to have (several) motion sensors placed in your home to take up the slack of an internet failure and you loose Alexa's added benefits! It does NOT take a rocket scientist to figure these things out if you do some research. If you have MONEY to burn and don't want to be bothered then YES go with ADT and waste you money needlessly for the same service. You have to think like a criminal and protect these "rat holes" in your home which does not cost that much to do it you want to read and do some homework. I get it most people DON'T want to be bothered or think about anything and will just pay! Well, if that's your stance then PAY! A lot of cities require a permit for a monitored fire alarm. It helps pay for false alarms and also keeps the city aware of how many monitored fire alarms they have active so they know how to plan man power for false alarms.

I've had Ring a little over a year now and am very happy with it's performance. I have only had 1 false alarm about 6months ago and they called me within 15 seconds after providing my verbal passcode I asked him to hang on a second so I could view my cameras - I was trying to that when Ring then called me. After reviewing my camera feeds I was convinced it was a false alarm from a huge change in lighting from the sun going in and out of the clouds and just happened to reflect off my hard wood floor just right and tripped a motion sensor I have have setup for medium pets (My 18Lb. cat). I then told them I'm convinced it's a false alarm and they then confirmed that I do not want to alert the Police. The whole process took less than 3min (Due to me trying to access my cameras from my work location that has bad reception). I have since changed the open settings of my blinds to avoid this the future! As stated very happy with this system and the price per month just can't be beat! I've had no other issues with this system. My cat has NEVER tripped this alarm system! I have had others that tripped frequently from my cats activity. I follow LifeHackster as he too uses Ring and have learned quite a few tips from his experiences. Love this channel and keep up the great work!

P.S. All this for $10 a month or $100 a year WITH cellular backup is awesome! My renewal for the 24/7 monitoring is a good peace of mind ! Try getting this price from ADT! NOT! With added cameras you'll be paying $55 plus a MONTH! I know as I came from them and consider them a RIP-OFF!

Not really! When you are home you can disable said cameras from recording video. But , when you are NOT at home this is a great tool to know what's going on in your home! All available in the settings for each camera you have. Several of my cameras do NOT show a video feed when I am home or in DISARMED modes.

It's not creepy. How can you confirm fire and smoke or burglar cases when not being home? Or even you're in home mode, if the burglar alarm get triggered do you always wanna checking out even with your gun ready? I guess it highly depends. A set of cameras helps you watch and hear all key spots.
