FINALLY‼️ Someone that KNOWS what tf to do. Because I've had 3 of these things always acting goofy. Like, all of a sudden it will start blinking slow, then fast like it's in pairing mode. This is AFTER it's already been paired and connected. Just sitting on the table it will do it on it's own. Now, 7 years late...I'm relieved. Thanks champ. My only remaining problem is the delayed response that's seemingly never ending. I press a button and it doesn't respond right away. I have to wait until the blue light stops slowly blinking. Sometimes, i just say eff it and repair or use it 2G. The 2nd issue is the rolling marker on screen after just one button push. If YOU can resolve these.. you're the G.O.A.T. OF Rii i8

This sounds so familiar. I dealt with the same thing and haven’t come across a good solution yet. I feel that the device must not have the best throughput and that may cause the button press delays. Perhaps another viewer has a solution ?

Hi Kevin - I use the Nvidia Shield 2016 model with 16GB internal storage and a 1TB external drive hooked up to hold all the media. Check my channel for videos on my gear set up, launcher, etc. thanks for the nice comments.

Thank you very much Sr. I was confused about the "extra connector" in the cable. Your video helped me to properly install/connect the USB dongle to my android box. It appears as if the cable acts as an antenna to the wi fi extending the range of this fantastic keyboard.

Hi Margaret - The dongle plugs into the black wire which is just a USB plug on one end (that will fit into your PC, Shield, etc.) and the other end a female USB plug that allows you to plug in the dongle (the small device that sends the signal to your Rii) or similar item if you wanted to use the cable for other uses. The cable should not be a problem with getting stuck, it is a standard USB cable....it fits in one way!

LazyDayz does the 2.4ghz Rii Mini8+ work after the 6.1 update? I've had this exact keyboard for a couple months that worked fine with a China box that since bricked but I bought a 2017 Shield TV last week and they wont pair. It's charged. I've held F1, turned the Rii on, released F1 and plugged the dongle in directly, with the USB extention/charger and with 6ft USB extension. For that matter I cant find a way to pair my 2G Fire Stick remote either. Unless I'm missing something all this Shield wants to pair with is Bluetooth accessories, is there an advanced add accessory section?. This is frustrating because SPMC and sideloading setup like I'm doing is when I need this the most. TY for your time.

Rick - I have Android 6.0 and I have auto update disabled. I purposely choose this because updates always end up throwing a wrench into a good running box! I can’t see why the keyboard wouldn’t work with the update however, good luck!

It's a 2.4 Ghz radio signal so not sure putting it in front facing is necessary. If it was infrared then yes. A 2.4 Ghz radio signal will travel through walls.

Hi Frank - You are correct...all I can say is that I was unable to use my Rii remote consistently until I "aimed" it forward. I see by the comments below that others have had the same issue. When I placed the dongle in the back of the Shield I had very poor and sporadic signal/connectivity. I guess it could be due (in some part)to the many wires and cables, ect. in the back of the unit and interference.

TheLazyDayz there is a cheaper Bluetooth model. I have the RII-8 + and it's enclosed in my wooden entertainment cabinet works flawless with my Nvidia Shield connected to the back. I understand each home setup is different. Good Day.

My cats knocked my Rii Mini i8 onto the floor and broke the On / Off switch. Luckily it is in the On position, so it still works. I think however, I will purchase a new mini keyboard and re-purpose this one. Any suggestions for re-purposing or replacements? Thanks!

You may want to see if it works with an iPad (re-purpose), I like the non Bluetooth connected Rii the best, I didn't have stuttering issues with it like my son had with his Bluetooth model, that's my 2 cents. good luck!

The controller doesn't have a built in mic but you CAN move the cursor to the search field (KZread)by clicking on the search icon, then Esc, then the right "D pad" button. For Chrome just click the search icon and type away. To get the "@" simply press and hold the shift key while pressing the "2". NOTE: my Shield is rooted and set up to only run Android (no Nvidia interface) so your device may function differently - see full video and listed apps I run in the description here - kzread.info/dash/bejne/p6V7xJOao9i-n7g.html

Yes, I use the home button to exit my app that I have open, it takes me back to my launcher screen. You can use an app called "EKH Switch IME" to map a key to support a desired function. Good luck!

I plug it in at night and unplug it the next morning, it lasts several weeks before needing a re-charge. I am sure it can re-charge in much less, but this is just they easiest method for us.

Hi Michael, I use the Rii remote to operate my Shield. On the Shield I run "TV Launcher", which provides the ability place, move, and access any app, or bookmark from the screen. On the right side is the area where you can select "apps" and go to the list of all installed items, see the version, uninstall, etc. I hope this helps.

I only use the remote to control my shield, the shield is plugged into the Samsung TV that I did a review and unboxing video about. I do not plug the Rii directly into the TV to control the TV. Read below what "The Mod Shop" wrote...a very good explanation about the Rii and hardware requirements/compatibility.

Hi Danny - You may want to try using a keyboard mapping app. I use "External Keyboard Helper" - (EKH 7.4) I am running Android 6.0 on a rooted device, I am not sure what your running but this works great for me. good luck - let me know!

Do you know how to change the cursor size. I recently changed tvs and since then tge cursor appears tiny and like its just the white outline of an arrow. New tv shouldn't make a difference. This almost invisible cursor is annoying.

yes you can use it with a firetv stick. I just got mine yesterday and it works great for almost every program Ive used except KZread. The only keys that seem to work is the arrows and the enter so you can still type like you would with the normal remote. Kodi, Prime Videos, Netflix, Hulu... it all works great with this remote.

Is this not just like how you were /supposed/ to charge it???? I think i missed the “hack” part

You can also use that plug to add another USB cable to make an extended cable, if you need a long USB cable, Plug the USB into that slot and you will see. I guess it can be used as a dual purpose.

TheLazyDayz I would contact the manufacturer and ask for a replacement, I have done that in the past for electronics I own and companies are pretty good to help typically.

The buttons on the left "D Pad" are marked "V-" and "V+" this is how you raise or lower the volume.

check your keyboard mapping, you may need to change how the keys are mapped so the ooff button of the keyboard is no longer "mapped" to the TV.

Yes, if you look at the left side of the remote there is a button to the left of the "Esc" key...this is the left click button. Directly below the left click button is the right click button. There is also a left and right click button on each side of the center finger pad.

my Rii remote is strange, sometimes when I scroll left or right or up/down it is like the button is stuck in pressed mode because whatever I am scrolling through is going really fast until I click any button to make it stop. does this with all buttons randomly, I can be typing and it looks like this, Helllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll, I have to backspace but that to will randomly get stuck and erase all unless I catch it in time. what causes this?

That would only work if the device supported wake on usb, it's not like a normal remote.

I believe the newer Rii's are not including the cable I got with mine. you could always get a simple USB extension cord to allow the placement of your dongle in a forward facing position. amzn.to/2LmiRUT

You don't need it. Assuming you got the lithium version, just charge it with a normal USB charger. The dongle doesn't need to face you, it's not infra red, it's radio frequency.

If you get the Bluetooth version of this remote (BT) no dongle is needed. This is only if your device (Nvidia Shield, Fire TV or Firestick) has bluetooth capability since their original remotes connect via Bluetooth

My Son has the Bluetooth version and I used it....hated it. The BT remote always needed to connect in between uses, it really was more sluggish in my experience. You are correct though on this being an option and everyone has their preference. Thanks for the comment and info!

My Rii flashes a yellow light when it attempts to connect to the Shield, then stops. The blue light stays lit when connected and as I use it. What exact version / model are you using? maybe that will help others in answering your question.

I believe the manufacturer is not providing them anymore....you are the second person that mentioned not getting a dongle. I suggest asking the company if they have the dongle just to be sure. It is unfortunate that make/models change so often and sometimes not for the better product in the end.

i would suggest getting a 3ft or longer usb extension cable you want all usb devices as far away as possible from the Shield Tv , the USB 3 ports interfere with bluetooth and google voice . so if your finding the mic is not working well . try moving stuff this also includes harddrives ect

Hi - The Bluetooth Rii was problematic for my son, he replaced it with the one I have and liked it much better. I tried using his BT version and hated how it lagged at staying connected, I assume your having the same issue. All I can say is the non BT Rii works great for me/us, that is the one I would get. Hi Paul - The color on the Rii does not change to show it is fully charged, a design failure in my opinion. I plug it in at night and unplug the next day and it goes for several weeks. That is the best I can tell you, good luck.

I plugged a USB VOLT/AMP meter in and watched until the light turned off. The battery in these things have current protection and as they reach full charge the current drops off slowly to .02 amps ,but as long as there's any current draw the light stays on.If you don't turn it off while charging the light may never turn off.

I have a 2TB hard drive and it is holding a lot of media and I have only consumed 10% of its overall capacity. How much you need is really dependent on how much room you need for your media. Try to get a USB 3.0 flash drive as the Shield supports that version and it is faster than USB 2.0, perhaps a bit more expensive though.

Dont waste your time with this video . This is not a hack. This was stated in the insinstruction manual.

Moving the USB dongle to the cable instead of plugging it into the back of the Shield - most people don't know about using the cable this way.

My Rii18s doesn't have a standard battery 🤔🤔🤔

some devices like this use a Nokia Phone battery BL-5C those are the external powered ones like this one - others use AAA batteries but if you use the back lit a lot or leave it on they go through batteries a bit so best with those to get lithium rechargables (if you want to save money / the planet ;) )

Get the BT+ which is the Bluetooth version no dongle needed

I tried the BT version (my son has one) and I didn't like the delay in it connecting via BT every time you want to use it. Perhaps this is not a typical BT issue??

You sir are a fucking legend..... i can confirm that using the cable supplied by Rii in the box and connecting the dongle to it as shown in the video will successfully pair and work as expected :D

Volume up n up button didn't work when press. Solution?

You may have to change the key mapping, look for a key mapping apk, they allow you to assign specific keys to the Rii key you choose.

Should I not be adding this dongle to the back of my tv? Instructions don't exactly say where to put it

To control your Shield you place the dongle into the back of the Shield....the cord allows you to plug it (the cord) into the back of the Shield and the dongle into the cord, so that the dongle is aiming forward instead of backwards (if you were to plug the dongle directly into the back of the Shield). Let me know how it goes!

This might sound awfully stupid, but why are there 2 left-mouse and 2 right-mouse keys on the keyboard? For me, when I press either of the right-mouse key on say, a Kodi menu or link, it doesn't perform a normal right-mouse-key function. Instead, it performs similar to the Escape key function.... what the heck am I doing wrong?

Hi Liam - You can use an app called "EKH Switch IME" so that you can map a key to support a desired function, I used it on mine. I usually don't use the keys you are talking about, I just use the big left and right click buttons and they work fine. I don't think your doing anything wrong the keyboard just supports so much functionality and options.

Didn't know that about the cord . So is there any add on or configuring this remote ? I got the issue. That I cannot access drop down menus. To save shows or edit some settings . Because the right mouse button only wants to Go back. Does anybody have a solution ?

I used a keyboard mapping tool so that I could assign commands to certain keys the app is called "EKH Switch IME". I am running on a rooted Shield, Android 6, see the details here:kzread.info/dash/bejne/p6V7xJOao9i-n7g.html Red the description for everything that I used to get my setup, hope it helps!

LazyDayz I'll look at you mapping tool. Short cut key are nice . . Makes favorites easier to get to. Thank you . I did find a solution to my issue after reading further. The KZread community is always so helpful.
