If you think this is too dark then you grew up in a place of privilege. I know back when I was growing up the things we saw in the streets were so much darker than this. At least the world is a bit safer place now than it was then, though the true horrors continue in the dark shadows cast upon the third world by modern first world countries and consumerism.

I remember my friend showing me this when she was over at my house to play... We were both only 9 or 10, and I was so mesmerized by the video that I would sneak back onto the computer to watch it multiple times a day... I would make sure all the lights were off, set the volume so low I had to put my ear up to the speaker (didn't have headphones at all back then lol) and turn the monitor away from the door, since I had a feeling my mom wouldn't approve of it at all... From what I’ve read she was already fairly well known and quite beloved in her home nation of Barbados and a smash hit for def jam/island label with debut album in 2005 that took Walmart by surprise and blindsided them and had to order more albums if I recall correctly. Music of the Sun is a masterpiece album and cultural touchstone and very happy pop the kind that usually never ever ever gets released or even recorded anymore bc of various record execs/men blocking it, and then she avoided the sophomore slump with her second album that had the smash hit s.o.s. On it… Then she released her third album and shocked the world with umbrella and disturbia. That album is so popular there’s like 3 releases/versions of it, the original the reloaded/deluxe and then I believe a third version but the name of that doesn’t come to mind at the moment. After that it’s been smash hit and collaboration one right after another and apparently a fashion clothing label too along the way. I just wish her performance at the Super Bowl had been better and not so rushed and not so garbled on the songs/lyrics, the telecast/production team did her wrong in my opinion. Her performances from MSN Control Room in 2007 that are still available on KZread to this day far outshine her Super Bowl performance.
