Elvis wasn't competing with Bobby. If he was we moulding even know Bobby's name. They were friends. Of course Elvis was bigger then Bobby. Bobby has a very memorable song. So did the Onederers in the Tom Hanks movie.

@@CarolineIsahAlways I'm not trying to be rude and I truly LOVE Bobby's rendition of Unchained Melody but to compare him to the man that brought Black and Whites together musically is a joke. Elvis is the only person that could be Elvis and so many musicians have already admitted that point without shame. Example: One day Elvis decided he needed to speak to the President of the United States. He didn't call and set an appointment, instead he just showed up at the gate and was let in because he was ELVIS. No comparison but Bobby did do a awesome job on Unchained Melody.

@@stevealdrich1365 not many would doubt Elvis's greatness, but he was a big fan of the righteous Brothers. When he heard Bobby do unchained Melody, he said he would try to do it justice. They both just had two different styles, that's all.

First there are two of them This performance was done solo by Bobby Hatfield (tenor) pure perfection. IT was live just Bobby's voice and a small microphone no do overs. The other brother was there on the side he is Bill Melody. He has the baritone voice they shouldn't have blended together but they did and it was pure magic. Many artists before him and after him have done this song but Bobby owns this 100%.No one will ever sing it like him

  • @chuckcarles8288

I am 81 and remember quite a few singers doing this but Bobby's tops them all. I was heading to Viet Nam when his version can out. I can feel the loneliness in every word. Bill and Bobby always did one solo on each of there albums and while on tour. They both wanted to do Unchained, so they flipped a coin. The music was written as the theme for the little-known prison film “Unchained” (January 1955), hence the song title. Todd Duncan sang the vocals for the film soundtrack. It has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, most notably by the Righteous Brothers. The movie “Unchained” is about a man in prison and longing for his wife and children. Hoping his wife will still be there when he gets out. So you can now understand the meaning of the song. The movie was not very good, or so my friends told me. But we were all teenagers so what did we now. Several artists sang it and it made the billboard top 100. But no one can come close to Bobby Hatfield’s version. Bobby’s version hit the top ten chart. And did it again when it was used in the movie “Ghost” It has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, most notably by Bobby. According to the song's publishing administrator, over 1,500 recordings of "Unchained Melody" have been made by more than 670 artists, in multiple languages.

No one has sung this song better then the late great Bobby Hatfield. This arrangement done back in 1965 has made this the most beautiful ballad and the best version I have ever heard. The violins are just killing it on this song. With the beautiful high falsetto tenor voice of Bobby Hatfield it adds to the beauty and reverence of this beautiful song. And after 60 years this song still resonates to an audience from around the world. This song will still be listen to long after our passing...That is what I call greatness. Great reaction and insight.

It's just my personal opinion, but I find it so annoying when reviewers repeatedly stop the song and comment. To me so much of the perfection of his performance is in the ever reaching his crescendo at the end. When the video is stopped it really interrupts the beauty and magnificence of the song.

HI CAROLINE, THE RIGHTEOUS BROS WERE BOBBY HATFIELD AND BILL MEDLEY. THE DECISION WAS MADE FOR BOBBY TO SING THIS SONG AS A SOLO AND TIME PROVED THIS TO BE THE CORRECT DECISION AS IT BECAME A NO 1 HIT AT THAT TIME. BOBBY HAD A GREATER VOCAL RANGE THAN BILL AS IS EVIDENT IN HIS PERFORMANCE OF THIS SONG. BOBBY SUNG THIS SONG SOFTLY, SWEETLY, SMOOTHLY, SENSUALLY AND WITH SOUL GRIPPING PASSION WHIXH WAS SO PURE, ELEGANT, CLEAN AND POWERFUL AND HE SUNG IT OUT IN THE OPEN WITH JUST A PUNY MIC WITH NO TECH ASSISTANCE. IT WAS SIMPLY RAW, NATURAL, GOD GIVEN MUSICAL TALENT. UNLIKE SO MUCH MODERN STUFF WHICH IS MANUFACTURED. THIS SONG IS SO ICONIC THAT IT WAS IN THAT FAMOUS FILM "GHOST" STARRING PATRICK SWAZYE AND DEMI MOORE. YHIS SONG AND THAT FILM WERE MADE FOR EACH OTHER - THEY WERE A PERFECT FIT ! LASTLY BOBBY HAD "MOVIE STAR" GOOD LOOKS AND BLUE EYES, AND ALONG WITH HIS VELEVETY, CHARISMATIC AND GREAT VOICE WAS ATTRACTIVE BY GIRLS THEN & NOW. I HAVE HEARD MANY VERSIONS OF THIS CLASSIC SONG (incl Elvis), BUT BOBBY DOES IT THE BEST - PERIOD. HE OWNS THIS PARTICULAR SONG. I saw that look in your eye. Wouldn't you like to slow dance with a man tender like this? What woman out there doesn't want this kind of respect from a man, a real man. My 1st boyfriend, he was this kind of sweetheart, he didn't come home from Nam. My first born son is named after him (no he's not the father but my husband also knew a Vietnam casualty with the same name so we agreed). Not to be crass but we called this panty dropper music back then. I think every female in the room started ovulating when this guy sang. It still warms my soul to hear him sing. Amazing reaction!! so many great singers in the world I never would have known about before youtube. I would like to introduce you to a Korean singer. She is, to many of us, the best Female Vocalist in the world. Very unknown to many still. her back story. in one's twenties, she was diagnosed with early stage cervical cancer. She survived and beat it, but she was rendered infertile as a result of the treatment. She sings of the pain she feels from never being able to have her own children. The meaning of the song and how she deliver the song.. I feel her pain, I feel her story. She is a beautiful person, inside and out with not a mean thought in her mind. You will find her to be humble and insanely talented. Listening to her songs is a catharsis experience. She will never disappoint you. So please listen to it comfortably without prejudice. lf someone says....ooooh look at those gorgeous red or white or yellow roses....is that being floral racist? NO. Black people from their unique culture and experience created "soul music" and some white people had that incredible quality too: Janis, Righteous Brothers, etc. lt's not racist; it's respect for the influences!
