    Thanks for the work you put into these videos. They are quite informative, an excellent job. I've been a fan of Z-Man soft baits for many years, and I have most of their new terminal tackle that you just showed. I have to say my thoughts on their new tackle are the same as yours, yes you could rig their baits before on other manufacturers tackle, but this new stuff is SO well thought out and designed that it takes an already amazing soft plastic way over the top. Sometimes I think it's unfair to the fish now, sometimes...

    I like rigging my diezel minnowz upside down. With the tail up i feel, the bait gets more vibration. Ive been doing this for years now and have caught some amazing fish, especially when they catch a case of lock jaw.

    I love Z Man plastics in most ways, except they are a bit difficult to rig unless you stick within the Z Man ecosystem, and use their terminal tackle too. Salt Strong has some really good soft plastics too, the colors are mostly the same as Z Man (who I assume actually makes them for Salt Strong). I think the Slam Shady color is a bit better in the Salt Strong, I have both. There are trade-offs of course. I can get Z Man plastics basically anywhere I happen to be (I travel around), whereas I have to order the Salt Strong ones and bring them wherever I go. It's really hard to beat either of them. The Salt Strong guys also sell Z Man stuff, and have always talked very favorably about them. I think it was Luke that made a video on how to rig the Z Man plastics on to a twist lock type hook, you basically use the hook point to pre-drill a hole, then you pinch the bait while twisting it onto the hook. On the flip side of that, it can be difficult to impossible to rig a bait that isn't Elaztech onto some of the Z Man terminal tackle, because the baits tear as its being worked over the weight and chin lock parts. Texas Eyes aren't so bad, but the chinlock weighted hooks run a high chance of wrecking your plastic, especially the heavier ones.

    I am mostly a fly guy, but when I do take the spinning rods out, I only use ZMan. Nothing compares honestly. Caught over 40 trout this past weekend on a single trout stick. Comparatively, I have tried out the NLBN Mini Mullets and I went through an entire $9 5-pack of them in one day because they tore so easily.

    Love me some Zman takes a little more effort to rig (thanks for the pull tip) but once you got it on there they don't move and 1 lure can last a bunch of fish, do wish they took a little better to color dips like plastisol but in every other way elaztech is better

    Hop you don’t mind me making a comment…..When using a chinlockz with a smaller bait (3 inch minnow z) I find after casting hard for max distance the back will dip down, losing the parallel profile, the lock is holding fine, it appears the plastic is slipping on the hook allowing the back of the lure to slip up the hook and bend the back. . The slip is more obtainable with the smaller 3” paddle tails.

  • @flatsclasscharters

    @flatsclasscharters

    Yea hard casting will do that sometimes… maybe try putting a small soft bait bead on the hook above back of 3” tail to keep that from happening. Maybe I can do a tip on this issue

    Its a lot easier if you're also using Z Man terminal tackle, which can be somewhat probmlematic. You CAN rig Z Man baits onto other terminal tackle, there are some tricks - but you'll probably wreck a lot of baits trying to put normal soft plastics onto Z Man terminal tackle. You're gonna have a hard time rigging Gulp onto a Chinlock weighted hook for example because it doesn't stretch over the weight, it just tears. If you really like Z Man lures, but you've got twistlock hooks - use the point of the hook to pre-drill a hole in the bait, then push the twistlock into that hole, pinch and screw while you're pinching. Its a little tough, but it does work. I have a lot of stuff from Salt Strong, and Z Man, they're my "go to" baits. I run hoss helix hooks, and weedless football jigs. I also use trout and redfish eye jig heads and texas eyes, but the Texas Eyes I'm phasing out in favor of weedless footballs and I gave away all my chinlock hooks because I its Z Man plastics only for those basically. Once I found a way to rig a Z Man onto a twistlock, it was game over for chinlocks in my tackle box even though they're better for Z Man baits.

    @@sandywilson8169 I was speaking in general terms. There are always edge cases. More frequently, there are misunderstandings. Like someone taking info about circle hooks, and trying to apply it to something that doesn't really work as they imagine it would. I'm not saying that's THIS case, just what I see mostly. I've seen people using steel leader to fish for bass for example. It didn't work, the guy had just heard that "steel leader keeps fish from biting through the line". And it does! If you're fishing for toothy fish which didn't really apply for bass. I would definitely like to see how you'd rig a soft plastic on a circle hook. I've never seen that. I can't imagine any way you could rig it and end up with a bait that could hook up on a fish reliably, but I don't know everything either. If I'm missing something, I'd love to learn more.
