I cannot believe it was over 14 years ago that I stood on the G3 stage and tapped YYZ on MP's ride cymbal with my finger...

This is the first I've heard portnoy mention Alex Van Halen as a favourite drummer...at last some recognition to the most underrated rock drummer of all time!
Love this man, makes drum sets sound exciting playing them like only a few others, who both use, or used concert toms. NP, PC.
Mike Portnoy is a monster on drums!!!!! The man can play! The "Winery Dogs" are one of the greatest Trios on the planet!!!!!!!

Bummer he forgot about the drum heads. Wanted to know why he had a Powerstroke Pro on the left kick and a Powerstroke 3 on the right kick.
WOW! A drummer like Mike Portnoy giving kudos to Alex Van halen! Now thats refreshing to hear, kudos to Mike for mentioning the great Alex Van Halen! Not many drummers famous or non-famous ever mention Alex.
what it the brand of the drum rack and mounting clamps?
what kind of finish is that on the kit
PS: If you want a alternate option to the MP signature metal snare, get the Tama Hand Hammered Vintage metal snare. $300. Same metal hammering and sound minus the 3 lvl throw off. I wanted a MP sig but when I hears the SLP Hammered, I was sold. Save $200.
Tama really needs to update Mike's page, they still have his Black Clouds and Silver Linings kit from Dream Theater on there
