Rig Rundown - The War On Drugs' Adam Granduciel

Музыка

Article and photos: bit.ly/TheWarOnDrugsRR
Premier Guitar met up with Adam Granduciel of The War on Drugs at Marathon Music Works in Nashville. Granduciel described how he builds moody, swirling walls of sounds through a Bradshaw pedalboard, two Hiwatt amps and a full-time spinning Leslie.
Through a serendipitous amp breakdown at a show in Phoenix, Granduciel began a relationship with Fender. It started with a new Japanese-made Gretsch White Falcon.
The Falcon was soon followed by this American Vintage ’56 Reissue Strat.
Although his array of Fender-related axes skews towards the modern side, Granduciel’s goes vintage for his collection of Gibsons. The oldest one is a totally stock ’64 Gibson SG Jr.
A previous owner loaded up his ’66 non-reverse Firebird with a pair of Lollar P-90s, but Granduciel added the Bigsby.
Finally, a stock ’72 Les Paul Deluxe rounds out the trio.

I always enjoy rig rundowns. It's interesting and enjoyable to hear people talk enthusiastically about their gear. Also nice when the unsung heroes of the big shows get to come out from behind the scenes and explain how they've got the show set up and how they take care of the equipment.

I loved this interview and of course the War on Drugs. Some of the best production I've ever heard on their last 2 albums. Totally hifi. Live was a a different story and I thought the sound was drowned out/lost. Was hard to hear his vocal and the venue is known for class sound. I'm wondering if his combo with the perpetual trem going on and reverb is problematic. Nonetheless he rocks and hope they keep cranking killer tunes.

I think john bohlinger (bolinger?) is a great host, he lets them do the talking and isn't completely oblivious to things. He's quite an accomplished musician. No matter who you put on these rig rundowns, as soon as its posted they are basically thrown to the wolves by all the people who believe they could do better behind their keyboards. Nothing will ever satisfy people. If you think you can do his job better I suggest you contact premier guitar and forward them a resume right away.
