Rig Rundown - Rob Zombie's John 5
Музыка
www.premierguitar.com PG's Rebecca Dirks is On Location in Milwaukee, WI, on 11/19/09 during the Rob Zombie '09 tour where she caught up with guitarist and tele wizard, John 5.
In this segment, John 5 walks us through his current live rig used for the current tour, including his plethora of Fender Custom Shop teles and siganture models, which all feature Dimarzio pickups or a Twisted Tele for the neck spot. He rocks a MINIMAL pedalboard (3 pedals and a wah!) and runs all that through various Marshall heads.

John 5 for every guitar he owns, "Wow this guitar is so awesome, it sounds so good, I use it all the time". lol
i love this pedalboard - simplicity at it's finest
Loved the sly dick joke John made about 15 seconds in XD
I think John 5 is a really cool ,down to earth guy, he always has the nicest things to say about everyone, aside from being an awesome guitar player, definitely a virtuoso.
JOHN 5 IS THE MAN!!! I never knew he was such a nice, humble, and down to Earth person. The true musician's musician. Doesn't care too much about gear, just loves the guitar (and does he ever)!
"Hey John, which guitars your favorite" John: "The Tele"
What an artist! Sooo versatile and musically articulate!
JOHN 5 SURE LIKES HIS TELECASTER GUITARS :)
As a proud owner of my own J5 Tele, I've grown to love the headstock. And the behind the nut bends are a dream with that!
I gained a lot of respect for him after I saw him on That Metal Show
He knows *everything* about telecasters. His collection is amazing.
this sounds great,this sounds great...
awesome guitars!
This guy is a really great player
Tech: What shirt will you wear? John: Give me my bear suit!
John 5 is the coolest. I miss the signature tele I used to own (he probably has it in his collection now)
Very cool rig for my opinion !!
I missed the Rob Zombi concert tonight in Philly because I worked 170 miles away. Damn it I am not a big Rob Zombie fan but I just wanted to see Johny5 play.
I quite like them, they're more interesting to look at than the standard fender headstock.
i love teles they can play any type of music i played a standard cheap model tele and it sounded awesome
He had a pair of Gretsch Filtertron pickups, (or Filtertron type pickups), in that one Tele, so he's using more than just DiMarzios and Twisted Tele Neck pickups.
this is my all time favoute guitar yeah theirs some blood on it
i like that its him showing his rig, and not his tech. makes me respect him even more since he knows his own stuff instead of having his tech do everything
@OdeToBlood24 Ha no idea. Thats cool you got to meet him.....seems like a cool down to earth guy
I like it
i saw john 2 days ago he is seriously a shred god!
i have the Marshall mode four and its a beast of an amp. it actually has 2 EL34 tubes in it packed into a 350 watts of power. biggest and loudest marshall ever made i think
John 5 doesn't play guitars. John 5 plays telecasters.
By the way, I have Line 6 G90 Relay, wireless device and it can simulate cable tone from 3 - 9 meters I think. I'm really satisfied with it and I can recommend it to you guys.
I am very curious to know how much is the double neck John 5 custom
I used to hate them but they've grown on me and now i really like them
@BlueNotesandSmoke excellent
Id buy a John 5 tele in a heartbeat, he was adamant that they kept the price down, probably one of the best guitars you can get for the money.
@godzilla964 well he actually played ibanez during most of the time he spent playing for manson. ibanez AX mainly, but also RG. and gibsons les pauls, sgs ... btw jim root of slipknot plays a tele, too
JCM900 is a superb head. It has a one of a kind sound and you wont get it anywhere else. I use it a lot on my recordings via VST (Simulanalog). It's free and awesome check it out.

You're comparing a JCM900 to a VST Plugin?!
Damn that Flathead model was used by jim root before he got a signature tele....it´s so beautiful...
@taylor410ce His solo albums contain quite a bit of straight-up country instrumentals. For instance, on John 5's latest solo album, THE ART OF MALICE, "J.W." and "Steel Guitar Rag" are just two of the country instrumentals included. Also, in a lot of his non-country instrumentals, he often uses lots of country licks. And on an older album of his, he did a song called "Death Valley" which featured country guitar master Albert Lee.
@yungsoo the tele? not the dimeback? :D
I like it best when they demo their rigs too
i love his nod to the 70s i mean the kind of metal he plays and he uses telecasters i think its
@peavyt15 Yeah...I remember coming across a video some time ago with John 5 showing off a lot of his Teles and he had vintage ones, new ones, etc. I think he has one from just about every year that Teles were being made. It's kind of crazy, but I wouldn't mind owning that many Teles myself!
at 4:50 He's got a Tele with a Bigsby on it. There's a curse on people whom have a Bigsby installed on Fender Teles. FYI
I always thought that he had an ibanez or jackson sice those are often used in metal. It's so cool that he plays a tele. I always thought they belong in country. I have a strat, now i want a tele.
Aye Fuckin john 5.Fuckin boss. He rockin the same pedals as us regular folk.
Damn, his guitars are awesome! :D
Matthieu Pascal from Gorod uses Tele-shaped guitars too. Awesome tech death band.
@aacxel When i first started to play the guitar a guy I knew showed me a tele and i hated it but now i think they r awesome. Maybe it's an age thing?
the first backup guitar that he talks about is the one that Jim Root played a while ago.
@Deadchicken95 Dude you don't realize John 5 isn't very tall, he's around 5,4. When I met him at mayhem fest w. rob zombie, I was kinda shocked but the camera has a way of making people look alot bigger as well. Overall one of the chillest guys I've met, and a the fact that I got to talk to him about guitars, and get insight from him was amazing considering he's one of my fav's
Interviewer: out of all your guitars here ,which is your favourite? John 5: the tele
John 5 is such a rad dude
3:05 "It's my favorite favorite guitar of all time." *Picks up other guitar and slams into first guitar*
i went to the concert he played that night
@JerkyChid he pry could get one if he wanted. but having the double he gets to be a bit more flashy.
Exactly what I was thinking. Mugatu!
id love to get the double neck
I saw it once on a Fender. It was 12 strings XIII model. So, it's Leo's design.
wow! i would have never thought that he is a country music fan.
what guitars im playing with ;) that was very suggestive
@juggHERnutt He clearly says it's a baritone. Which means it has longer scale. So it obviously has a longer neck.
i don't know much about this guy (i know he's an accomplished player). Does anyone know what kinda fretboard radius he uses/prefers? I'd guess a 7.5 tele neck wouldn't be his first choice?
@aj199508 its so when the lights are out at the shows, certain things glow in the dark
I started to get in to teles after I years of being a fan of John 5. I baught his squire signature model to start me off. Let me tell you fans of John 5 and teles, buy this guitar it is awesome. The only thing I'm changing on this guitar are the pickups(Seymour duncan hot rods) and I'm putting a bigsby on it.
3:37 *jaw hits floor*
@sunnylee84 Jim Root of Slipknot and Stone Sour has a signature Tele too
With a Signature line of guitars named for you (of which everyone has but me) shouldn't you know that the "white line" on the edging is called the binding? Anyone?
Please try and do a Parkway Drive rundown pleaseeeeee
3:10 this is my favorite guitar, love it to death. *puts it back, picks up another and whacks the favorite* NOOOOOOO
@godzilla964 A lot of people to tend to think of Teles as a "country guitar" and nothing more but, in reality, they also sound great for rock, blues and jazz and beyond. John 5's solo albums really show off the heavier side of the Tele (as well as the country side, of course). Danny Gatton and Brad Paisley--two other Tele users--show off every other side to the Tele.
Tuned B on a TELE. Thats insane!
Daron Malakian rig rundown!!!
which guitars your favorite?....... john says "the telecaster"
Aha! Played through one once and liked it. Assumed it was a tube amp due to the volume it achieved at 3 or 4 on the dial. I guess thats just 350 watt solid state volume,
I'm presuming that green tape is either phosphorescent (glows ) or ultraviolet-reactive under blacklight, so he can see 'em on a dark stage.
I want the buck 5
im getting that Noise Supressor
Yea, monster cables. I use them aswell.
squier should make that gun metal grey tele as an alternative colour
Mugatu plays guitar?
does this guy play fender stratocasters? jaguars? or maybe other guitar brands? like gibson? epiphone? ibanez??

For a while he used to play with Teles made by Ibanez, then he went back to Fender Teles.

That Strat is actually a Wayne Kramer of The MC5 signature. I think it is in his newest rig rundown.
@spicecrop are you sure those are "bleach" stains? As for Rebecca Dierks, if she came out with a signature underwear line, I'd be sure to check out her catalog... can I get an amen?
Have you ever listened to his solo stuff? Almost all of it is what one could call shred country
@aacxel Yes.
got enough tele's ?
no its not...its a hybrid tube preamp...it has two 12ax7 marshall tubes in it!!!! i have one. took me three months to find a sound out of it..a mxr EQ and a ibanez t9 are a must, but its one of the best sounding marshalls i ever heard!!!!!
I wonder why he puts green tape on his pedals?
On the john5 tele's it is not actual binding, it is just a stripe painted on. He thinks the binding constricts the tone woods.
bolt on tele's and the dreaded jcm 900's series. CLICK! next rig rundown please. I'm trying to learn something over here.
i want the tele @ 1:11
"uh this is another guitar here" LMAO!!!
He is actually pretty good and is very versatile in terms of styles he can play. Kirk Hammet on the other hand can play 3 minor pentatonic licks and the actual E chords very fast:(
got nuf teles there
Do you think he originally wanted to call himself Johnny 5 until someone pointed out the "Short Circuit" movie reference
@Doodlez732 prolly not a gunshot, lol! Most likely the stage crew dropping heavy equipment and riggings in place.
Other than strats you are probably right. However they are bullet proof and sound great.
j5 needs to work for fender designing and prototyping telecasters
i wish i had backups lol
Drinking Game: Take a shot every time he says, "And uh..." Awesome dude for sure. DRINK!
I like her
Didn't know he was so chill and down to earth. Very effeminate, but a pretty cool guy. Simple rig, but would I kill him to try out a different model of guitar?
