Paul is a true guitar geek. He was born to do a rig rundown.
Only Gilbert...guitarist discussing differences between vintage and new Makita drills :D I love this guy.

And ironically his preferred drill (from at latest the early 90s) was the really cheap version with the single speed and no break. Guys would try to do car audio work with me and have these things and sheer off screw slots and stuff. Funny. And yes... vintage!

I prefer the vintage makita myself lol!!!
Super cool guy, met him in 1990, absolutely no ego at all and mad skills.

I'm so sorry for your loss. At least he got to meet one of the greats before his time. Again, sorry
Much respect for Paul as well as all of the guitarists that do the rundowns themselves, rather than getting their techs to do it.

paul loves to talk about his gear and he's a true gearhead
There are so many things to love about Paul. He never seems to be stressed or having a bad day. Also his pinky is as long as my index finger, wtf.

Hey! Where did you get this number in your nickname? :P And I'm Paul Gilbert's style of playing fan and yeah, I love this guy too as a human.
Possibly the nicest gentleman in rock and roll

Govan might have the chops but Gilbert just has the magic I can't explain it. He would be a nightmare to improvise against lol

I did couples of weeks ago, in fact it was a great moment because not only jamming with such a great guitar player like him is a gift, but we've really had a good time jamming, with a smile on each one's face, I think he's really a kind person, more than the great shred master we all know.

@@chrisa586 Gilbert is just as impressed by sweet chunky pentatonic licks as he is speed, though. Possibly more so. It would probably be a fun time.
Paul, one of the most amazing human in our planet. His picking speaks. His tone screams. Still its sweet enough to listen whole day without getting bored. True artist, true talent.
Paul Gilbert is such a nice guy.
i like how he actually demonstrates each sound. every other rig rundown ive seen, the dudes just talk and talk about technical bullshit and dont actually show you how it sounds. also, dude is a class act.
PAUL actually demos his own gear and doesn't leave it to his busy guitar technician. Cool guy forever
Every time I see Gilbert interviewed he seems like such a nice guy.

Totally, he seems like he hasn't started to hate his job or the fans like some musicians have.

Paul is a great guy. We went to school together at MI in Hollywood, played together a few times. I hosted his visits and translated for him a few times here in Osaka. A massive talent - but totally nice guy.
Paul Gilbert is the best. Him and Slash both score high on the sanity chart. It's such a relief to hear him explain stuff.
I've never really been into Paul's music but he seems like a really good guy and definitely has great hands.

I feel the same way man. He just seems like the best dude ever?
that guy is so cool, I don’t know if I prefer his rig rundown or satch’s both these guys know their thing and are so inspiring, love them
I love how Paul is constantly trying different things. I have just begun to get my feet wet in the world of stomp boxes and various effects after years of firmly being a "one guitar, one amp" kind of guy. Experimenting with all sorts of guitar pedals has really revived my love for the instrument.
Having a separate lead out for the singer is awesome. The Mr. Big members seem to really respect each other.
Class act. Most of these interviews are done with the guitarists tech. Paul is an outstanding individual and it's nice to see him take the time for those who are truly interested.
I love these videos when the actual artist is talking about their gear, but I love it even more when they actually demo it. Paul is such an awesome guy.
Paul Gilbert seems like a really cool guy, and to be honest I'd love to jam with or even get a guitar lesson from him, learn some Mr. Big and other epic tricks by him
Just watched Steve vai, yngwie, petrucci, etc. and Paul's rig is so off the cuff and simple and his personality is so humble and cool. It reminds me why I like him so much lol
Paul such a humble virtuoso.. no hesitation to share and always play from hearts ❤️.. 🤘
Never listened to his music but I liked the way he played a few licks to demonstrate the pedals. If only they would all do that.
@FatPeaceman

I thought exactly the same. It's simply the best way to demonstrate a pedal ^^
I was at a Music store sometime ago and i was playing this riff and shredding a lil bit and paul walked in and was listening and i looked up and stopped playing and he said no dont stop that sounded great..and i was said oh i was just noodling and he said thats some serious noodling and i said well i learned it from you and he said really and i said yeah man i was a big fan and learned alot of your licks from your video's and thats how i built some technique up. he was just a down to earth guy!

Such a cool dude :D great guitarist too :)
One of the best guitar related videos on youtube. thank you.
"in a humbucker guitar I never really used the tone control" ... we finally got an answer to his insane trebley tone lmao. Gotta love this guy
5:03 when Paul Gilbert casually says "My hearing is going"...

Man, hanging out with Paul must be like hanging out with an amazingly talented and guitar-crazy best friend!!
It's so inspiring to see super-human musicians that have equal amounts of humanity. Thank you Paul Gilbert!
He's the most down to earth guy ever. His music is a great inspiration and he's a perfect example for every musician.
Nobody cooler than Paul Gilbert
"it does touch you in the way that other guitars don't" hahah what a genius!
Paul's personality is just fantastic! He seems like a such a genuinely nice guy with real passion for music. :)
@pinkangus We edited together clips from Keith Howland of Chicago demoing an Egnater Tourmaster 4100 at the 2008 NAMM Show. You can watch the video and hear bits and pieces of Mr. Howland's playing that appears in PG's intro. Thanks a lot for watching the videos. --PG Staff
I love that man so much, Loves to explain and interact!!! Thanks again Premier Guitar!!
AWESOME. Paul just seems like an awesome dude and the rig is incredible!
I got to see him [and meet him] at Brents Music Store in Ft Myers Fl-He was 27 then-and after each song-he ask-Is That cool-He was very humble-knowing that there was a room full of Guitar Players-but only one like him-He said that he doesn*t use drugs-and never had-I loved that Clinic-he signed-photos with an Ibanez and Laney Stack!
"When you're a guitar player, you must tweak!" Lol Love it!
great guitarist, great man! great kind of person!
He seems so down to earth. I remember watching his guitar lessons on VHS and he explains things so easily
This is perhaps the best rig rundown. This guy is something!
Besides being an amazing guitarist Paul is indeed a great person, very humble, just make me respect him and admire him more. Paul you Rock!!
awesome rundown the best I've seen so far...Paul is soooo accomodating
finally, after years of searching for Paul's rig rundown!!!
May he stay on earth for a loooooooooooooooong time. Lovely man and effin evil good player.
He such a cool guy and it's so much more personal when he shows it himself and not some random guitar tech.
Any Guitar mag, channel, whatever, will always get attention when offering PAUL GILBERT CONTENT. Thank You Premiere Guitar!
HELL YEAH!!!!! i was waiting for this day!!!!
The notes go right into your heart!
Awesome video, great interview.
Someone give this man a latenight show!! haha
Thanks for posting this.... it seems to me to be a great insight into Paul Gilbert's professional life!! Cheers!!
his lead playing is so clean
Great interview of a great guy.
The best thing about Paul Gilbert besides him being a guitar virtuoso is his humbleness and politeness. He's a great human being, we need more people like him.
I love that fireman. I played one the other day and the neck profile is awesome.
I've never met Paul (thou I wish too) and from the countless videos of him you can tell he's an honest straight up easy guy without any hint of arrogance. Great magician on the guitar too.
This guy is making my day
PG on PG - fantastic!
Of all the Rig Rundown videos, this is the one I could most see myself using.
nice and simple yet overloaded with talent
just seen this, the bit at the end of the interview, where he holds the drill in a menacing way, brill
Love the way the camera guy focuses on the pedal board the entire time Paul is shredding.
This guy has always been cool ! I like it when they demo there own grear
the melody of his speech is so positive
It's nice too see someone actually demonstrate their gear by PLAYING. Makes the rundown more complete. Pauls the man.
best rig run down, i love when the player gets into it and doesn't just want to run off and say yeah i got a fuzz and a wah, and some marshalls
PG is such a chill dude
My favourite guitarist, and one of my favourite people on this planet. I totally love Paul Gilbert.
i love paul gilbert. you can tell that every second he doesn't spend playing guitar is a second he considers wasted. that's true love :)
paul gilbert rock!!!very generous n humble guitarist i ever met
What a lovely guy Mr PG is!!
Saw Paul with Mr Big in '93 in a smallish club in OKC, was very much worth it. Sheehan was beating his depth charge simulator and Paul was on top of his game in front of his wall of Marshalls. Nice to see the tech behind what I knew was less than simple.
Paul Gilbert is one of the most humble guy I've seen so far in all these rig tour kinda video
I keep watching this video over and over again. This gut is soooo f***** smooth. Premier Guitar, what about Protest The Hero rig rundown?
He's so cool
I never forget the first time i meet paul gilbert, he's an awesome dude man ~
Really happy to see that Paul himself is participating in this interview, not his tech (like most other players)
i love his voice!
Gilbert has got to be one of the nicest dudes to hang with. I have gotten so much out of his columns. What a talent!
"John Denver clean" lmao. Paul is hilarious.
I love this guy!
i love that chorus, i want one.
Rig Rundowns with the equipment plugged in are the best. It can be the tech or the artist. Irregardless, hearing the gear is better than just talking about the gear. And Mr Gilbert is one of the more articulate artists to speak with.
Great guy, and player!
YES!!! PG IS THE MAN
I didn't even know Mr. Big was still a band.I remember hearing them for the first time way back in the early 90's on Letterman I think, and the next day I went out and bought their CD,had a train wreck on the cover.Going to have to check out some of their latest stuff now.
Paul is one of the few muscians who is open about their hearing loss. Believe me those headphones are not just for show! I have tenitus (ringing in the ears) from not using protection in the construction industry. Trust me protect your hearing!
Love this guy.
Love Paul Gilbert! Always have. Always will!
his guitar tone is AMAZING...
I like that he's talking about his Vintage/Modern marshalls settings for bass that are not being used and his little 2061x is plugged straight in to the cabs.
this is a great guy. Luv him
i love how paul gilbert is, so fuckin down to earth and is fun and just loves to show other people wat he does!!!
I went to see him at a Guitar Clinic Here at Brent*s Music store in the late 80*s-Really down to Earth and helpful!!!
Such a great guy
this was very detailed! I liked it! interview was very good too :)
I've always liked the fact Paul has a simple set up, he doesn't seem to be fussy about effects and amps, he just lets his fingers do the talking!
Paul is The Man. Cool guy and a stellar, world-class player.
