It's sad to see Parallax month go. It's probably my favorite album ever. I wish your channel grows a lot. This is great content
As a drummer that outro song was extremely satisfying, showcasing how much the drums alone can change the entire feeling of a track. Thank you for doing Parallax month. It's still my favorite album twelve years later. Keep being awesome
One particular thing you missed was that, on the second half of that Astral Body part, you can briefly hear parts of the vocal melody from the call-forward that's on Silent Flight Parliament in the background as well.

Damn, I've listened to this album so many times and never noticed the callbacks from 5:28 and 6:33. Great video, as always.
oh the bloom references on silent flight parliament are in the drum part! the B section of the drum part at :55 (especially under beep bop skippity tippity tap those toes) comes back in the section immediately after that melting city reference at 10:50. it’s way faster but it’s for sure the same rhythm
2:07 in silent flight parliament is a call back to 1:37 in astral body. I noticed it one time and played the astral body riff on bass while listening to silent flight. Fits like a glove
You dont talk enough about Cynic for someone who wear a shirt of them 😢

Siiiick! My favourite album of BTBAM! ALSO, can I read your thesis? A Master's thesis on my favourite album! Haha tis the season of giving! EDIT: found it in the description!
Man this series was absolutely fantastic. Please keep doing videos about BTBAMs long form songs, this was so informative
Outstanding!
the melody we hear for the first time around 4:25 in "Telos" w/ the tutti statement comes back as the bass melody in the guitar part around 1:35 in "Silent Flight Parliament" sad that Parallax month is done but always stoked to check out your research!

Oh hell yeah that's a great catch! Thanks bud
Big like
I have never said "holy shit" more in my life than now
These Easter Eggs remind me of something Persefone did. They reused a riff from the beginning of Fall to Rise in the last parts of Returning to the Source. As you said, I always felt it was a nod to fans, a proper Easter Egg rather than just plagariazing themselves. Ok this next bit may be overanalyzing, but I also always felt there was some sort of narrative touch behind it. You see, both songs come from different yet consecutive albums, with Fall to Rise being the (proper) first song of Shin-Ken (2009) and Returning to the Source being the last song of Spiritual Migration (2013). Thus, it gave me the feel of a flashback at the end of the trip, like when in a movie the characters reach the final destination of their journey and they take a snippet into how things were before the adventure. And yet, tying back with the EE concept, that's a feeling that only fans, or rather people who have listen to their previous material, may have, for others it'll be just another riff.

This doesn’t seem that much of an overanalysis, it’s probably true tbf

Hell yeah! Great example. Yeah I didn't really get into the links to lyrics/narrative in P2 but I really should!

@@metalmusictheory5401 I think there might also be motivic/sectional returns in Parallax I or II from songs that are part of the Parallax Story but not in the Parallax records. There's one in Coma Ecliptic I believe, and others are, if you forgot or didnt know which would surprise me, the 2 first songs of The Silent Circus, Prequel to the Sequel, Fossil Genera, Swim to the Moon & Prehistory
I heard all five, I was obsessed with this album for a few years lol. for the part of astral body that's reprised, you can actually hear a snippet of the lines from Parliament in the second repetition ( when the snare triplet run starts) in astral body
Dude the intro scared the fuck out of me I thought with the "all good things must come to an end" you meant the band was breaking up at first and I missed the announcement lol

haha sorry to scare you
i was waiting this video not so patiently though, i didnt even notice that extremophile elite and telos references as a guy who loved and kissed and sucked and married this album Im mindblown cool cynic drip btw king
The only one I've ever noticed was the melting city one, mostly because they're so close together on the album.
I'm jealous af of that beautiful Cynic shirt.
Yooo, I have that same shirt, we're twins!!
I assume you’ll be at the Irving plaza show?
Traced in Air
Nice Cynic shirt bro
Yep, Cynic month now.
