Riese and Müller Charger4 GT Rohloff Review - Adventure spec with Bosch Range Extender and Rohloff

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Rufus and Dan took a top spec Riese & Müller Charger4 with all the trimmings on a wet, wild trip around Snowdonia and up Cadair Idris. Dan reviews the Charger4 with a Rohloff Hub and the Bosch Powermore 250 Range Extender. We reviewed the Charger4 GT Vario earlier this year, so this was a great opportunity to try a different bike specification. See what he thought...

Just bought a Charger 4 today. Ex display at the bike shop. Doesn’t have the range extender on it but presume I can fit it aftermarket and doesn’t have to be factory fit?

Yep, it should be fine. You might need to change the charging socket fitted on the bike and you'll need your dealer to update the software with the battery attached.

I'm looking at the Riese & Müller Homage 4 GT Rohloff HS with the dual battery 1250 and ABS and with all the extras in the US it's coming close to $15,000 especially after I add a full Garmin system including the Varia RCT715. However since I live in Florida I'm more interested in the air conditioned seat if they ever had one. 👍😁 Also I have no desire to drive through the kind of crap that you are, and while I rarely drive on the pavement I'm generally on trails and bumpy to rain in general. Where you're driving that doesn't look fun to me at all.

.. Also IMO that auxiliary battery in the water bottle holder area is something that seems kind of daffy to me especially when there's a dual battery option.

Dual battery will make the bike heavier than the power more and in turn cost, which as Dan says few people will use ranges of up to 120 miles. By the sound of it you can afford it though and it depends on how far you regularly ride and where. I mostly do around 20-25 miles and use about 40 % of my 625w battery on roads, trails and some hills. I did a total 40 miles in London on Saturday and used up 49% battery.

@@badabing8884 .. My current eBike has two batteries and often I'm traveling beyond the range of a single battery, plus I'm using PAS 3 24-28 MPH (45 KPH). AFAIK there isn't a "dummy battery" to reduce weight, and to my understanding to extend the battery life the battery controller switches between the two packs. In any case this option seemed much better than me strapping a battery to the rearend of my bike.

No, not yet. Double glove up in winter or get handlebar mits.

Not yet! We hope they're coming soon, they would be fantastic in the winter.

You can use the gloves intended for scooters. You can still use all the controls with your bare hands when installed correctly and it's the best for cold protection.
