Riding Waves with my Standup Paddleboard Foil setup

Another great day on the water! This time with my 6’8 standup paddleboard and foil.
Pulled up to the beach and I saw some waves rolling over the third sandbar walling up from time to time, but not really breaking.
Paddled out and had a blast. Stoke factor and wave count were high! Paddling into non breaking and barely breaking waves. With nobody around. So much fun!

    @wingfoilcoach Thanks for the inspiring message coach 🙏🏽🫡. I worked on some new things this weekend. Always improving! Haha the Soloshot and I have spent some frustrating times together in the past! I think I’ve finally figured it out and know it’s limits.

    That PNL185 is ahead of its time. Amazing setup. I use the P1300 with the steps now, handles turns slightly better and sheds air better. The PNL is a slippery fast foil for its size though!

    Dang that looks fun for no wind times. The kook glitch is real- even Lance has an inner kook that has to get out sometimes. I glitched out yesterday for 10 seconds had to reset relax.

    Ya Lance ripping. Thought this was JP Luby? Texas has some of the best foiling in the mainland US, CC bay DW looks insane for DW 🔥

    Thanks, Elliot. Yes it’s the northside of JP luby. Yes Texas has some of the best foiling Year Round here on the mainland. And pretty much nobody is foiling here or looking to foil here. Maybe one year in the future people will travel here to foil. CC bay is so good for DW! And very often. Wind looking nice all week long. DW’s coming up. Come visit sometime.

    @IRWE905 I’m thinking around 8 to 8.5 ft X 19 inches wide and thick all the way through. Around 130-135 Liters. Im 193 pounds in the summer and closer to 200 Lbs in the winter. Plus 15-20 plus pounds of wetsuit material. I want a board that i can paddle standing up for minutes on end without having my feet or legs fatigue from just trying to balance. Im definitely inspired from the current SUP/Downwind foilboards out there. The barracuda / Javelin type shape. Long and narrow. Thank you!

    Great video, Lance! I will share with my surf bro to show him what he's missing. Question, how similar or different is paddling into a surf bump as opposed to a downwind bump?

  • @Lanceisoutside

    @Lanceisoutside

    Жыл бұрын

    Haha do it! He’s definitely missing out. Answering your question- To me, it’s similar. Paddling into a surf bump/ wave is easier physically than paddling into a downwind bump. Most of the time. Paddling into a downwind bump requires good technique, timing, and strength. Were as paddling into a surf wave you can get by using less of that. Paddling into a Dw bump feels like nothing is there at times. You feel alot less lift/push compared to surf wave. SUP surf Practicing on small days at the beach is good training for learning to DW sup foil. Having an ideal length board is 🔑 7-8 ft

    Nice! What's that on your arm? Shark band or performance monitor? Seen more sharks than ever, and although never bothered, thinking about additional safety. Thanks!

  • @Lanceisoutside

    @Lanceisoutside

    Жыл бұрын

    @lakechamplainkitenwing it is a armband tracker tag that i use for my soloshot robotic camera. The camera follows the tracker recording the whole time. Definitely some sharks out here. There was alot of small bait fish in the water and birds feeding. I got bogged down a few times hitting mullet and jellyfish. I sometimes see baby sharks swimming down the waves when im on a wave. Feeding technique. I definitely feel safer and more peace of mind when im on a bigger board more out of water. Do you go to the ocean and surf/ wing or just on lake champlain? How are the bumps in the lake on a strong wind? Could you do downwinders with a SUP foil or wing? Thanks! 🤙🏽

    @@Lanceisoutside Tracker. That makes sense. :) Just purchased a DW and am still learning to paddle it straight. I've used it with a wing and really enjoy it's maneuverability. My goal is to hopefully be able to DW the bumps on my lake. I think they are doable. I drop my wing (sea anchor) and ride them with my small board, but never venture too far away from my dropped wing. I travel the coasts during the winters as well as the Baja. Really psyched to master this new sport!

    Nice! Thanks for the inside scoop. You will get use to padding it. Wont “jackknife” on you after you figure it out. If you’re doing downwinders with your wingboard and wing for assistance. You should be able to do SUP dws there also. Enjoy the progression and journey!
