My girlfriend and I did a 3250 mile roadtrip around the rust belt and Indiana Illinois Detroit etc, Gary Indiana was the craziest place I’ve ever been. We wondered into the hospital, schools, various buildings, but nothing came close to that church. Walking inside the basement of a church that’s hundreds of years old looking at the decay was surreal. That was also the trip I got my misguided hoodie when I was in Chicago. Keep it up bro!

nah that church got build in 1925, completed in 1926 and already closed in 1975. damn that's wild.

The $1 home thing started in Harlem in the 80’s those homes are now worth millions. They are offering the $1 homes in Baltimore Maryland as well currently. Pretty cool!

The homes in baltimore are like the ones in the video and will cost more than their value when fixed. They sound good but are actually shitty and for Baltimore you have to show like 100k in a bank account to get a $1 home

The whole having to live in it for 5 years is the problem. I wonder if you can let someone rent it for the 5 years or if it has to be the person trying to own it. You also only get 6 months to get a death trap up to code, it'd be easier and faster to completely demo what's there and start from scratch
I work at US Steel in Gary. Quite honestly people in Gary are pretty chill and the conversations you have especially with the older residents are all gems. Learn a lot about what really goes on in Gary these days and honestly I see nicer cars and bikes out here than I do in Chicago

I was there about two years ago when I took a wrong turn coming into Chicago. Saw a lady edging her lawn and and everybody going about their business. People who live there still take pride in their homes.
Brian I just wanted to say that I’ve been watching you for the past 5 years or so, and you’re the reason why I’ll be getting my first bike in the next month. I live on the Far SE side of Chicago right by the border. I drive for Uber and Lyft mostly 95% Indiana. Hammond, East Chicago, Gary, Highland. One of your best hood eats love how there’s so much part of the country which is unexplored makes you wonder why people are quick to travel international when there’s so much to see a couple states away
Brian it's amazing how you meet such cool people when you go to these run-down places. After seeing Gary I really feel sorry for that City
I went to boot camp at MCRD San Diego during the summer of 1988 with a dude named Christoper Peterson. He said he was a former gang member from Gary, Indiana. On Black Friday I remember him crying like a baby saying that he wanted to go home. He turned out to be a pretty motivated recruit later on, I must say. I later learned he went UA and started shooting several people (deleting them) near Gary and the surrounding area with another dude while both of them were hopped up on whatever they got their hands on.
I literally watch your channel for all the randomness lol keeps me entertained also love how you do like historical and small deep dives in to people places and things around you keep up the great work and stay safe bro. ☝️down brother!

14:38 didnt know bubbles from the trailer park boys was in the national guard 😂
I’ve seen some run down places but nothing like that before. Without looking at it i wouldn’t have guessed it’s a 75k population. Like you said outside looking in just off statistics , doesn’t seem like a good place but from what the footage shows, the people you met seem like nice individuals so who knows? 🤷♂️
Why least favorite when you’re favorite
Thanks for the history lesson. Shows what happens when automation of a job happens.
love to see him posting when im home from school
Nothing but love man. I said before I think I rode with you over a decade ago in either PA at the warehouses we used to ride or TMF ride in New Jersey. We never met but I remember hearing your name so it had to be one of the big rides or in Bmore by the stadium......I miss it. Nothing but love and keep doing your thing, rubber on pavement Sir P.S. I was a kinda noob to stunt riding but a back road beast. 2006 Ninja 636 SE I bought new and wrecked with 90k miles on it....plus the milage of my 2004 636 stunt bike. Was going to retire the 06 636 at 100k miles and get a ZX10r....but a utility truck wanted to say hi to me at 50mph. Nothing but love keep doing your thing

Another fantastic video Brian, love your content man. I'm rocking a CB650R out in the Philippines and rip these roads up. 😂 Have to be cautious when I watch your stuff because it makes me want to get out and start riding every time haha
My mom's from Gary, my Dad from the southside of Chicago. I grew up around that area and I can distinctly remember Gary getting progressively worse and more desolate as I got older. It's really a memory of a town now and truly is sad. The way my mom describes it as a kid, it mind as well be a different planet. The outsourcing of production and environmental restrictions definitely were a huge detriment. I wish I had an answer or solution but I don't really know if there is one anymore. It's just sad man, I feel for everyone stuck there and wish them all the best in life.
Finally a Brian vlog

I knew you were in chicago primarily, but didn't think I'd see a hood eats right around the corner from me lol
dang Brian, that was a good one! Have ridden to and through Gary a few tmes, mostly taking backroads to Chicago or Milwaukee from Kalamazoo, MI. You end up right on some those same streets you shot, like US12. Freeways not as fun when not on a S1K. I like riding old cb750's and Kawi KZ's. The devastation is mind blowing. On the S1K, you should do a road trip. Take US12 all the way from Milwaukee to Detroit!...Hood Eats the whole way!
